2010 Domaine de la Bécassonne Côtes du Rhône Blanc

SKU #1077032

Domaine de la Bécassonne is a small estate located near the village of Sorgue in the southern Rhône Valley, and strangely it is solely dedicated to producing white wine. This is unusual as 90% of this vast region’s output is red wine. Planted in 1978, the first bottling of this delicious wine was produced in 1982. With a cool micro-climate and sandy, limestone soils this small property is ideal for producing fresh, expressive whites. André Brunel planted Bécassonne with the best varietals of the appellation: Roussanne, Clairette Blanc and Grenache Blanc. The vineyards are pruned for low yields (around 40 hectolitres per hectare) and each varietal is harvested separately as they reach optimal ripeness. Fermentation is done in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to retain each varietals bright fruit characteristics. A blend of 55% Roussanne, 30% Grenache Blanc and 15% Clairette, this wine is bottled in early March for freshness and vibrancy. Domaine de la Bécassonne is always considered among the region’s finest white Côtes du Rhône. 13% abv.

Medium body with tropical fruit, honey and pear flavors. The Roussanne really stands out. Wonderful all around - color, nose, body and satisfying long flavors. My white wine of choice. Highly recommended.

Additional Information:

Country:

France

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Rhone

- Legendary wine-producing region in southeast France. Stereotypically speaking, Rhone wines are high in alcohol, and the majority produced is red. The northern Rhone is best known for outstanding 100% Syrah wines from areas such as Cote Rotie and Hermitage, as well as for fabulous white wines from Condrieu (where Viognier is king). In the southern Rhone, look for spicy, full-bodied wines that are blends of Grenache, Syrah, and other varietals coming from appellations such as Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, or Rasteau. Wines labeled as Cote du Rhone or Cotes du Rhone Village (a cut above generic Cotes du Rhone) are frequently found here in the US because they often represent some of the best values on the market.
