 Full red. Musky red berry and cherry skin scents are joined by cola and rooty sassafras with air, along with sexy oak spice and potpourri qualities. Broad, spicy red fruit flavors are firmed by juicy acidity, gaining sweetness in the middle palate. Fine-grained tannins arrive on the finish, which leaves behind notes of candied red berries and cola. Not an overly powerful style but boasts sneaky depth of fruit and doesn't lack for heft. Some of you might not know what kind of love we have for Cristom. Simply put, it is one of K&L Wine Merchants favorite Oregon wineries. We believe that from front to back there are few producers in the Willamette Valley that are cranking out wines as delicious as the team at Cristom. The good news is that Cristom graciously receives our love and had been kind enough to open their cellar doors to us from time to time allowing us to sell selected Library Releases. One of these releases is the 2007 Louise Vineyard Pinot Noir which we couldnít be happier with, especially with this outrageously cheap price tag. Louise is commonly one of the last wines that Cristom releases due to its power and deep seated dark fruit personality. Wildly aromatic this wine exudes sandalwood, pomegranate seed, Black cherry and sage aromas in the complete and alluring nose. Big and powerful for the lighter 2007 vintage this had wide streaks of woodsy spice and savory meatiness to go with the dried cherry, blood orange and apricot flavors found on the palate. If you havenít tried the wines from Cristom yet this would be a perfect place to start, if you have, well, you probably donít need me to tell you that you should buy this.

Ruby in the glass. The nose exudes fresh tilled Eola soil, candied cherry, tart cranberry & a hint of spice. Lip smacking juicy red fruits with slightly grippy tannin & an acidic spine. Although delicious tonight for Thanksgiving dinner, this has the stuffing to last a few more years in the cellar.

Pinot Noir

- One of France's most legendary grapes and the grape that earned Burgundy its reputation. The parent of varietals like Pinot Gris/Grigio and Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir is blue to violet to indigo in color with relatively thin skins, and it is said to have been cultivated in France for more than 2,000 years. At its best, Pinot Noir creates elegant wines that are filled with primary red fruit aromas and flavors while young, revealing with an array of secondary characteristics like earth, smoke, violet, truffle and game with age. The varietal is also known, perhaps better than any, for its ability to translate terroir, or a sense of place. While the best Pinot Noir still comes from Burgundy, it is being produced with increasing success in cooler climates around the world. In France, it is part of the trifecta of grapes that can go into Champagne, and it is also grown in Alsace, Irancy, Jura, Savoie, Lorraine and Sancerre. Outside of France it is produced under the names Pinot Nero and Blauburgunder in Italy's mountainous regions, as Spštburgunder in Germany and as Blauburgunder in Austria. In the US, Pinot Noir has found suitable growing conditions in the cooler parts of California, including Carneros, the Russian River Valley, the Anderson Valley, the Sonoma Coast, Monterey County, the Santa Lucia Highlands and Santa Barbara County, as well as in Oregon's Willamette Valley. In recent years, New Zealand has demonstrated its ability to interpret this hard-to-grow varietal, with successful bottlings coming from careful and attentive growers in Central Otago, Martinborough and Canterbury. Chile is also an up-and-coming region for Pinot Noir, creating fresh, fruit-forward, early-drinking and affordable Pinots from the coastal Casablanca Valley and the Limari Valley.
