Bruichladdich "Rocks" Islay Single Malt Whisky 750ml (Previously $50)

SKU #1025693 96-100 points Wine Enthusiast

*Classic/Highest Recommendation* The inviting bouquet offers aromas of fruitcake, banana nut bread, sweet malt, crispy pork rind, sweet oak, vanilla, red grapes and blackberry jam. Entry is sweet and grainy; at midpalate the taste profile suddenly bursts with red fruit presence and oaky vanilla. Finishes clean as a whistle, chewy and concentrated. (7/ 2008)

Whisky Advocate

Fruit is the common thread to this lightly peated whisky; red fruit, that is. Red raspberry, red currant, red seedless grape, strawberry, and red apple. A gentle sweetness (creamy vanilla, light molasses) balances all this fruit. Not overly contemplative, but delightful. This is definitely not the same Rocks I reviewed two years ago. It is richer, darker in color, and tastes more mature. It's an improved version, and my rating reflects this. (Vol. 17, #4)

K&L Notes

BRUICHLADDICH ROCKS HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED. NO LONGER AVAILABLE. This is our staff "Best Buy" in our Bruichladdich line up. The Rocks is a very approachable dram and would be great for someone just starting in out in the whisky world or if you are looking for an every day "Laddie". Non-chillfiltered with no additives, the rocks spends 7 years in bourbon before being ace'd in French Wine casks for several months. Their "unpeated" whisky actually has a touch of peat, 3-7 ppm.

I was introduced to this Single Malt several years ago, and completely felt in love wtih it! The "Rock" is easy going and friendly to sip. The low peat really makes this scotch approachable. Great to share, or not!

This malt is terrific. At this price point, it's the hottest bottle in the store and I don't think another comes close. For me, this dram screams "cereal"! It's sweet, smooth, grainy, and breakfasty. Like glorious liquid Crispix. Seriously.
