2017 Château de Beaucastel "Hommage à Jacques Perrin" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival)

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "On another level, the brilliant 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Hommage A Jacques Perrin is just about all Mourvèdre (there are small amounts of Grenache, Syrah, and Counoise) brought up in a large foudre. It reveals a saturated purple color as well as a super-rich, blockbuster-styled bouquet of blackcurrants, blackberries, ground pepper, truffle, charcuterie, and God knows what else. With full-bodied richness, a stacked, opulent mid-palate, building tannins, and a sensational finish, it’s another perfect wine from this team and is unqu ...

Top Pick!
2016 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival)

99 points James Suckling: "This is a stunning Beaucastel. A classic! Has a superb array of fruit, ranging from red, through to blue, darker purple and black. Nuances of dark, stony minerals, spices, wild flowers and herbs. So fleshy. This has impeccable balance, super-silky tannins and an extraordinarily long finish. This has decades ahead of it. Drink or hold." (08/2018) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled only a week before my visit, I was blown away by how well Beaucastel's 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape was showing. It's full-bodied, creamy ...

2005 Château de Beaucastel "Vieilles Vignes" Roussanne Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "One of the best whites I’ve had in some time, the 2005 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Cuvée Roussanne Vieilles Vignes is a 100% Roussanne that sees half in tank and half in barrel. While it starts out tight, it blossoms with air, showing perfectly ripe fruit, medium to full body, an unctuous yet light texture and a blockbuster finish. This is still fresh and vibrant but I hesitate to give drinking windows given the propensity for this to shut down. There’s no harm in drinking one of these now though!" (05/2010) ...

2010 Tablas Creek "Esprit de Beaucastel Panoplie" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

94-96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "More rich and full, with additional roasted herb, licorice, and meaty aromas, the 2010 Tablas Creek Esprit de Beaucastel Panoplie is a big, dense 2010 that has loads of fruit, yet still shows the vintage with a cool purity of fruit, integrated acidity, and firm tannin that frames the finish. A blend of 60% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, 10% Syrah that’s aged all in foudre, this full-bodied, powerful effort will require even more bottle time than the Esprit de Beaucastel, yet will have two decades or more of longevity. (JD)" (06/2012) ...

2007 Tablas Creek "Esprit de Beaucastel" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Truly exceptional, and showing every bit as good as last year, the 2007 Tablas Creek Esprit de Beaucastel (44% Mourvèdre, 29% Grenache, 21% Syrah, and 6% Counoise) delivers awesome aromatics reminiscent of a top ’07 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, showing pure blackberry, kirsch, licorice, incense, and herbed rubbed meaty notes. Dense, concentrated, and fantastically textured, this full bodied beauty should drink well for 10 to 15 years." 2010 Tablas Creek "Esprit de Beaucastel" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

93-95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Firm, structured, and showing the coolness of the vintage beautifully, the 2010 Tablas Creek Esprit de Beaucastel (45% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, 21% Syrah, and 4% Counoise) is a fresh, focused, and balanced red that has loads of crushed berry like fruit, licorice, sappy underbrush, and floral nuances, as well as superb underlying minerality, all emerging from the glass. Quite tight and firm on the palate, with excellent purity, juicy acidity, and a youthful, energetic feel, this will most likely require 3-5 years of bottle age o ...

1985 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Oxidized Capsule-Bin Soiled Label)

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the most charming Beaucastels since it was first bottled (and still holding on today), is the gorgeous 1985. Its medium ruby color reveals considerable amber/pink at the edge. This offering demonstrates that a wine does not need a lot of tannin and power to age well; it’s all about balance. Velvety-textured, opulent, sweet, and appealing, this remains a classic Beaucastel. (RP)" (12/2002)

2008 Tablas Creek "Esprit de Beaucastel Rouge" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Esprit de Beaucastel flows with sweet dark cherries, flowers, tobacco and spices. It is a beautiful, classically built wine graced with striking inner perfume, lovely mid-palate juiciness and a round, utterly harmonious finish. Well-integrated, silky tannins linger on the close. This is a fabulous wine from Tablas Creek. My sense is that the wine should be tasted upon release and then again only after a number of years in bottle. In 2008 the blend is 38% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache, 26% Syrah and 6% Counoise ...

2007 Tablas Creek "Esprit de Beaucastel Panoplie" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Looking at the Mourvedre-dominated special cuvee, the 2007 Esprit de Beaucastel Panoplie is off the charts and up with some of the greatest wines I’ve tasted from Paso Robles. Massive in every way, yet never heavy or ever putting a foot wrong, it delivers thrilling red and black currants, leather, licorice, garrigue and roasted meat aromas and flavors that flow seamlessly to a full-bodied, mouth-filling red that has incredible richness and depth, sweet tannin and good acidity. A thrill ride of a wine and a joy to ...

2017 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Decanter: "At Beaucastel the Grenache and Cinsault are fermented in cement while the Syrah and Mourvèdre are fermented in foudre. The result features finely pixellated fruits of the forest on the nose, with a full-bodied but mightily fresh and lively palate. The Mourvèdre element is strong this year, bringing vibrancy and power. It's firmly savoury, very dry and dramatic. A very tannic year has produced a seriously structured Beaucastel for the long term. (MW)" (10/2018) 95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape is another sunny, b ...

2003 Tablas Creek "Esprit de Beaucastel Rouge" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a warm vintage, the 2003 Esprit de Beaucastel has fantastic, complex aromas and flavors, beautiful richness and a deep, layered mid-palate. Proprietor Jason Haas compares this to the 2012 and, certainly, its voluptuous texture and richness are similar. It’s drinking brilliantly and I would consume bottles over the coming handful of years, although it will last longer. Drink now-2018. 2000 Tablas Creek "Esprit de Beaucastel" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The superb 2000 Esprit de Beaucastel (this is the same wine as the 2000 Grand Cuvee reviewed in issue #139 last year) is a blend of 35% Mourvedre, 26% Syrah, 25% Grenache, and 14% Counoise. It reveals complex characteristics of cloves, spice box, cinnamon, and black fruits in a full-bodied, Chateauneuf du Pape-like style. Dense and chewy, with tremendous intensity as well as richness, like the 2002, it should age well for 10-12 years, possibly longer. (RP)" (08/2003) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "A musky, animal- ...

99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A classic blend of mostly Mourvèdre, the 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage A Jacques Perrin is a blockbuster that’s certainly the wine of the vintage. Possessing an inky purple color to go with an incredible bouquet of blueberries, garrigue, olive tapenade, beef blood and pepper, it's rich, full-bodied, powerful and layered, with sweet, ripe tannin. It's a more approachable example of this cuvée that past vintages, yet will keep for 3 decades or more. The Perrin family continues to knock it out of the park and have produced some o ...

96-99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Last of the whites, huge notes of buttered citrus, exotic flowers, pineapple, honeysuckle, and almond notes all emerge from the 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Roussanne Vieilles Vignes, a rich, yet fresh, elegant, vibrant barrel sample that does everything right. You can't find a wine like this anywhere else in the world, and it’s consistently one of the world’s great white wines. One of the old guards of the region, Château de Beaucastel is nevertheless one of the most progressive and forward-thinking estates out there. They have a ...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beaucastel’s 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape has turned out even better out of bottle than I predicted. An inky/ruby/purple color is followed by a glorious nose of blue and black fruits, truffles, pen ink, licorice, and meat juices as well as glorious levels of acidity and sweet tannin, buttressing the fruit’s fabulous freshness and vibrancy. This full-bodied effort still displays considerable tannin, no doubt because of the relatively high Mourvedre content. (RP)" (10/2009)

Of the 2003 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape,Wine Enthusiast writes: "One of the big names of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and this wine justifies the fame of the Perrin family’s property. It is a rich style, but, more importantly, it is beautifully made, structured, dense, with red jelly fruits, a touch of vanilla and a fat, full-bodied, but firm aftertaste. This is a wine for aging—give it at least five years before touching it. *Editors' Choice* (RV)" (12/2005)

2012 Château de Beaucastel "Hommage à Jacques Perrin" Châteauneuf-du-Pape 3-Pack in OWC (Pre-Arrival)

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The wine of the vintage is the Perrin’s 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Hommage A Jacques Perrin, and it will most likely merit a perfect rating in another couple of years. Full-bodied, massive and layered on the palate, with awesome purity and freshness, it delivers incredible aromatics of beef blood, truffle, graphite, iron and black and blue fruits. The finish shows stones and spices. The ancient Mourvedre in the blend gives this wine elegance. Incredible depth. So drinkable now but goes on for minutes. Fantastic Hommage from a more challenging vintage. Blueberries, Peking duck, new saddle leather, black cherries, scorched earth, and an incredible sense of minerality all flow to a massive, concentrated, pure, perfectly balanced 2016 that is a prime example of the old saying, “an iron fist in a velvet glove.” It's a heavenly, perfect wine that's going to live for 30-50 years.
