2001 Peyrabon, Haut-Medoc

This is a property very close to Pauillac, and it's one to watch out for now, and in the future. These wines are well-made, value-driven, with good depth and length. Proprietor Patrick Bernard owns 50 hectares of gravel soils and with the aid of winemaker Xavier Michelet, produces elegant, silky, and vibrant wines that won't break the bank.

2001 Marquis Philips "Integrity" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-brick in color, the 2001 Integrity reveals evolved aromas of black fruit, dried mulberries, prunes, sandalwood, leather and tobacco with some nuances of oolong tea and anise. Made from extremely old vines, it is a deep ruby-colored Zinfandel boasting a big, briery, sweet bouquet, considerable glycerin and flesh (15.5% alcohol), and a southern Rhone-like pepper, garrigue, and spice component. Fleshy, full-bodied, and hedonistic... (RP)" (10/2003)

2001 Roche de Bellene Meursault 1er Cru "Charmes"

Neal Martin writes: "Burgundy needs personalities and they do not come much bigger than Nicolas Potel. He’s been on the scene ever since I remember him attending some of the London primeur tastings back in the late 1990s. His path to success has never been straightforward: working his way around Australia and California, starting a small negoce a year before the untimely passing of his father and the sale of the Pousse d’Or estate; the sudden explosion of cuvees under his Maison Nicolas Potel label that ultimately led to liquidity problems and the sale t ...
