1996 Lokoya Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon Bin soiled Label

95 points Wine Spectator: "Enormously complex and detailed, with rich, concentrated, earthy currant, anise, mineral, sage, plum, cedar and spice. Unfolds gracefully, turning elegant and polished. (JL)" (11/1999) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby-red. Aromas of smoky roasted plum and cherry cough drop. Full, sweet and thick, with unusual clarity of flavor for the vintage. This retains its compelling sweetness through its very long aftertaste. Lush, unaggressive tannins hit the palate quite late. A superb '96. (ST)" (05/199 ...

1996 Petrus, Pomerol

91-94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Healthy red-ruby. Red fruit, espresso, iron, tobacco, brown spices and exotic oak scents on the nose. Round and silky in the mouth, but supported by solid structure. Already shows lovely perfume in the mouth. Compared to the softer '97, this has more penetration and grip. Finishes spicy, firm and quite long. (ST)" (06/1998) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Wild aromas of crushed fruit, forest flower and wild mushrooms. Full-bodied, with incredibly velvety tannins that go on and on. Lovely and exciting ...

1996 Les Grandes Chenes Cuvee Prestige, Medoc

Delicious example of flashy, sexy Bordeaux. Plenty of silky, rich fruit. 87-88 points from Robert Parker… 'I have written about these wines in the past and they are very well made. The Cuvee Prestige possesses more color, riper fruit, more obvious new oak, and 5-8 years of aging potential… merits serious attention.'

1996 Alejandro Fernandez "Tinto Pesquera" Ribera del Duero

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby color. Initially subdued black raspberry and cassis nose opens to show soil and oak tones of espresso, smoke and earth. Like liquid silk in the mouth; extremely concentrated flavors of sappy blue and black fruits and milk chocolate. Brilliantly harmonious acids. Finishes with explosive fruit and a firm but not especially tough tannic backbone. A great young Pesquera, perhaps ultimately stronger than the '95 but not quite in the class of the extraordinary '94, which I have tasted severa ...

1996 Léoville-Las Cases, St-Julien (Pre-Arrival)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1996 Léoville-Las Cases is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc picked between 25 September and 10 October (for fascinating insight, read Robert Parker's remarks about the blend with Michel Delon in the original tasting note). Now at 20 years, it has evolved into an absolutely stunning Saint Julien, clearly one of the best wines from the estate this decade. The bouquet is beautifully defined with intense black cherries, cedar, mint and a touch of oyster shell that seems to gain ...

New!
1996 Latour, Pauillac (Lightly Nicked Label)

96 points Wine Spectator: "Fabulous aromas of crushed raspberries, plums and blackberries. Mind-blowing nose. Full-bodied, with soft and silky tannins and a long caressing finish. Hard not to drink now, but leave it alone. (JS, Web-2007)" 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted blind as a vintage comparison at the Valandraud vertical, the 1996 Latour is a wine that continues to perplex. I just think that given the vintage, the team would have made a far superior wine nowadays. That said, it is still a very fine Pauillac. Here, it conveyed a sen ...

1996 St. Francis Sonoma Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Wine Spectator: "Smooth and supple, with ripe, fleshy cherry, herb, currant and bell pepper notes. Turns polished on the finish. (JL)" (10/1998) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red. Superripe aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, tar, coffee grounds, loam and meat. Silky, sweet and generous, with redcurrant and game flavors." (11/1998)

1996 Paul Hobbs "Michael Black Vineyard" Napa Valley Merlot

What would you expect from a guy who made his name as the former winemaker at Robert Mondavi, Simi, and Opus One? According to the Wine Spectator, you can expect "Medium-weight, with a band of cedary cherry and currant of moderate proportion, picking up more complexity on the finish." (10/99)

1996 Chateau St. Jean "Cinq Cépages" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Wine Spectator: "Few things in wine are as frustrating as experiencing difficulties with a great bottling that you’re long on. That’s been the case for me with the 1996 Chateau St. Jean Cinq Cépages, Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year in 1999. With a 95-point rating, 11,000 cases made and a $28 price tag, it was one of the easier picks we’ve made over the years. Since this Sonoma County wine was so delicious and readily available, I bought two cases so I could share the wine experience with friends as often as possible. For the first decade or s ...
