Third-generation vintner Jeff O'Neill selected small lots of Syrah grown by Larry Hyde, who's been farming his vineyard for 37 years. According to the winery, "The entire Hyde Vineyard, which Larry purchased and began planting in 1979, slopes down to the south east, absorbing all the gentler morning sun and avoiding the late afternoon's risk of burn. The nearby San Pablo Bay's marine influence keeps the area's temperature moderate through the winter, which means an earlier bud break with little threat of frost. Combined with the steady winds drawn inland...
Ca del Baio by Piemontese standards is a pretty good-sized winery, with over 65 acres of vineyards in the communes of Barbaresco and Treiso. Ca in Piemontes means house and Baio is a reference to a Bay horse which the earlier generations of the Grasso family owned. This is the fourth generation of wine growers in the family. Paola, Valentina and Federica are running their estate these days, along with their parents Giulio and Luciana. The 2019 Ca’ del Baio Langhe Nebbiolo is made from young vines in their Barbaresco vineyards, planted in 2008 and 2009. (...
Named after the Latin for "philanthropy," Humanitas gives back to regional charitable institutions from their winery proceeds, with a focus on hunger, affordable housing, and education.
This is delicious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from organic producer Château Lacaussade Saint-Martin.
Connoisseurs Guide: "Vanillin oak makes a big play for attention right from the start here and is a sustained, but not overly pushy adjunct to this one's principal theme of well-defined, berry-like fruit. While the wine begins on a supple note that briefly suggests that it's a Zinfandel best tagged for drinking in the short term, it tightens and firms up in a hurry and shows the tannic, Amador grip of one that, in fact, warrants a bit of time before rounding in to its best. Hasty drinking is not advised here, and its path to better will extend for anothe...
Produced from primarily estate-grown Verdejo, just outside the village of La Seca ("the cradle of Verdejo" as the sign states!), this is a wonderful expression of Rueda. Verdejo, in its refreshing, cleanly fruited profile and tropical leanings, mimics Sauvignon Blanc, without any overt green notes or the occasional blowsiness of some New World examples. Ayre's aromas of white peach and fruit cocktail lead to a palate of fresh fruits, with some minerality adding further structure and focus.
90 points Vinous: "The 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo emerges from a parcel in Sinio. Dark fruit, spice, earthy notes and a good bit of tannin give the Vajra's Langhe Nebbiolo a decidedly brooding, powerful feel and quite a bit more seriousness than is typical at this level. Sweet red berry fruit, mint and spice add freshness alongside bright acidity as the 2018 opens up in the glass. This is such a pretty and expressive wine. Drink 2020 - 2033. (AG)" (03/2020) Wine Spectator: "Graphite and eucalyptus aromas lead off, followed by flavors of cherry, strawberry, e...
