Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1931 Viuva José Gomes da Silva & Filhos Colares Reserva Tinto. The little-known region of Colares enjoyed a brief time in the sun in the first few decades of the 20th century, as it was one of the few European wine regions to escape the ravages of phylloxera, thanks to its sandy soils and coastal climate. The also little-known Ramisco varietal is and was the resident grape for the region's winemakers. Gomes da Silva & Filhos is undoubtedly the most famous and most widely available producer from this region, with vintages from the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s routinely wowing collectors and geeks across the online wine community (just check out the threads on Cellar Tracker and Wine Berserkers to get a sense of what these wines are capable of). Based on their track record, these are some of the longest-lived red wines in the world, period, full stop.
