2004 Contino Gran Reserva Rioja (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2004 Contino Gran Reserva Rioja (1.5L) (95RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled only in 2,693 magnums, the 2004 Gran Reserva is a blend of 75% Tempranillo, 15% Graciano and 10% Garnacha from Rioja Alavesa, raised from three years in American and French oak with racking every six months. It has a very intense, scintillating bouquet of kirsch, crushed strawberry and a touch of eau-de-vie. It is very animated and vigorous. The palate is beautifully composed with luscious, red fruit interlaced with dark chocolate and mocha; underpinned by crisp acidity that maintains freshness and poise. It is brutally backward at the moment but should age effortlessly over the next 20-30 years. This is a purring Bentley of a wine! Drink 2014-2030+ " (08/2012)

2001 Cune "Imperial" Gran Reserva Rioja (1.5 L)
Bid on this magnum of 2001 Cune "Imperial" Gran Reserva Rioja (1.5 L) (95W&S, 94RP, 94ST, 93WS). Wine & Spirits: "Recently, Patrick Mata and Alberto Orte of Peninsula Wines held a tasting of Riojas they’d purchased at auction in Spain. The wines had been held in the cold cellar of Los Tamarises, the Lazcano family’s restaurant in Getxo, north of Bilbao; the stash included a number of Cune Imperial wines from the 1950s and ’60s, which turned out to be the stars of the tasting. They are selling those wines to restaurants here in the US, providing a rare opportunity to taste grand old Rioja. If you can’t find (or afford) one of those bottles, here’s the next best thing: A vintage of Imperial that will provide exceptional drinking for the next forty years. No exaggeration. This is the stuff. It has the cool presence of Villalba fruit, from the mountains lining the western reaches of Rioja Alta, and a deep, plump currant and fraise de bois flavor with a briskness to balance its meaty, miner

1966 Cune Imperial Rioja
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1966 Cune Imperial Rioja. Cvne, is situated in Rioja in the traditional neighborhood of the station, where the oldest wineries of Rioja Alta established themselves, for the main reason of transporting their goods to the port of Bilbao. In 1879, two brothers decided to set up a business in the recently flourishing trade of the wine business. C.V.N.E., Compañía Vinicola del Norte de España (The Northern Spanish Wine Company) or la Cuné, as it is commonly known in Haro, was created. This cellar still reflects the origins of the company and is kept in the traditional neighborhood of the Haro station. The Cune winery in Haro, is made up of a group of buildings, mostly from the 19th century and arranged around a courtyard surrounded by pavilions for the purpose of wine production, aging, and bottling.

Bid on this magnum of 2001 La Rioja Alta "904" Gran Reserva Rioja (1.5L) (96RP, 94JG, 93VN, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Gran Reserva 904 will not be released for another 3 years. Dark ruby-colored with a garnet rim, it displays a lovely nose of Asian spices, incense, tobacco, balsamic, and blackberry. On the palate it has exceptional depth, layers of spicy black fruit, excellent ripeness, and an elegant personality. Upon release it should continue to evolve for another 5-6 years and drink well through 2040. (JSM)" (06/2010)

1995 Bodegas Ontañon Reserva Rioja
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1995 Bodegas Ontañon Reserva Rioja. Ontañon is an amazing bodega, located just outside of Logroño, but sourcing fruit from their own vineyards in Rioja Baja. These are high elevation, fairly isolated, wild vineyards, many of which are gently sloping and on poor, stony soils. The wines here show the richness and generosity of fruit for which tempranillo and garnacha based Rioja Baja wines are known, but with an added elegance, texture and purity which only older vines from top notch vineyard sites can provide. Recently, the winery re-released some library selections to show just how well their wines can age. For anyone who doubts the ageworthiness of wines from Rioja Baja, they really ought to try wines such as this '95 from Ontañon, to discover that these are not only the equal of Rioja Alta's best, but also of many '95 classified growth Bordeaux at half the price.
