Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1993 Bandol Cuvee Fontanieu (made from a 5-acre parcel of vines planted in red clay soils on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean) was bottled unfined and unfiltered. The knock-out bouquet must be sniffed to be believed. Among many different elements in the wine's multi-dimensional aromatic profile are scents of roasted herbs, over-ripe tomatoes, grilled sausages, tobacco, and gobs of blackcurrant and raspberry fruit. Although I was sure they had aging potential, I did not realize just how much longevity these wines possess. They are generally full-bodied, powerful (with at least 15.5% natural alcohol), concentrated, rich wines made from very old vines and tiny yields.
