Bid on this bottle of 2002 Vega Sicilia "Único" Ribera del Duero (95RP, 94W&S, 93WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Having skipped over releasing a 2001 due to frost damage, the 2002 Unico is a result of a severe selection as attested by the label which shows that just 42,932 bottles were produced instead of 108,536 in 2000. It has an incredibly intense nose, much more linear and focused than the more flamboyant 2000, with scents of dark cherry, creme de cassis and a touch of honey and melted dark chocolate. The palate is medium-bodied with a slight grainy texture on the entry, a hint of cooked meat inflecting the layers of toasty dark berry fruit. It is very harmonious and perhaps at this juncture, edgier and grittier than the millennial Unico. It is less opulent and more structured than the 2000, but is a more cerebral wine. (NM)" (08/2012)
Bid on this bottle of 1996 Vega Sicilia "Unico" Ribera del Duero (96RP, 94ST, 93DC, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1996 Unico has a very pure, pastille-like bouquet with raspberry, wild strawberry, crushed stone and a touch of Chinese tea. It has impressive delineation and linearity. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins. The fruit profile is shimmering in the glass with black cherries, cassis and blueberry notes. It is very feminine and powerful towards the poised, tensile finish that is long and seductive. One of the finest recent vintages, suffused with sensuality and opulence, the 1996 Unico is destined to be a great wine, one that might unfairly be over-shadowed by the 1994. 99,480 bottles produced. Drink 2020-2040+. (NM)" (08/2012)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Vega Sicilia "Unico" Ribera del Duero (OWC - 99JS, 98DC, 98VN, 97RP, 96WS) in original wood. James Suckling: "This is still very tight and closed with so much depth and beauty. The linear line to this is very vertical and draws you down. It shows intense blackberry, dark-chocolate, hazelnut and walnut character. Full body. Chewy yet extremely polished. Precise. Shows decadence. So drinkable already, but better in 2022." (12/2019)
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 La Rioja Alta "904" Gran Reserva Rioja (96RP, 96WE, 95JS, 94VN, 93W&S, 92WS, 90DC). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Gran Reserva 904 is a superb blend of Tempranillo from the villages of Briñas, Labastida and Villalba with 10% Graciano from Briones and Rodezno. The grapes were destemmed and crushed and fermented in stainless steel for 18 days at 25 C. Malolactic fermentation was spontaneous and lasted 38 days. These wines are marked by a long aging in used American oak barrels following the most strict Riojan tradition; four years during which time the wine was manually racked eight times. This is usually my favorite wine from La Rioja Alta and 2005 is one of its best showings, going back to the quality of the vintages of the 1950s and 60s. The nose is very balsamic with notes of camphor, hints of mint, leather and hung game wrapped around a core of cherries in liqueur. Together it is balanced, subtle, truly elegant and classical. The palate is
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 & 2004 Bodegas Numanthia-Termes Toro Tasting Lot, including 1-bottle of 2001 Bodegas Numanthia-Termes "Numanthia" Toro (95RP, 95ST, 95WE) and 1-bottle of 2004 Bodegas Numanthia-Termes "Termes" Toro (94RP, 92W&S, 92WS, 91ST). Of the 2001 Bodegas Numanthia-Termes "Numanthia" Toro,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The flagship offering, the 2001 Numanthia, is fashioned from a 70-100 year old Tinta de Toro vineyard planted at a 2,300-foot elevation. After a 28 day maceration, the wine undergoes malolactic in barrel, is aged 19 months in new French oak, and is bottled without fining or filtration. The spectacular, opaque purple-colored 2001 offers an explosive nose of melted licorice, barbecue smoke, blackberries, creme de cassis, camphor, and graphite. (RP)" (04/2004)
