Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2003 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac (100RP, 98JS, 97WE, 96VN, 96WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Lafite Rothschild comes as close to perfection as any of the great Lafites made over the past three decades (1982, 1986, 1996, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2010). This sensational effort came in at 12.7% natural alcohol, it is made in the style of one of this estate’s great classics, the 1959. Composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it exhibits a dense ruby/purple color to the rim along with a luxurious bouquet of cedarwood, lead pencil shaving, white chocolate, cocoa and cassis. Fat, rich, opulent and full-bodied with low acidity and stunning seductiveness and complexity, this noble wine possesses a bountiful, generous, heady style. It is just coming into its plateau of maturity where it should hold for 20-25 years. This is one of the candidates for the wine of the vintage – make no mistake about that.

The ripeness and exuberance of the year comes through in spades as this dramatic, opulent wine shows off its radiant personality. The 2003 can be enjoyed now, but it could also use another few years for the tannins to soften. Still, the 2003 is pretty hard to resist today. This is an exceptional, deeply satisfying Mouton endowed with notable richness but also exceptional balance. Hints of toffee, torrefaction and dark spices are laced into the finish. In 2003 the blend is 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, all brought in between a fairly narrow window of ten days between September 15 and 25. (AG)" (05/2016)

Vinous: "Another wine with plenty of near and medium-term appeal, the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon is built on texture and ripeness. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, tobacco and spices flesh out in a supple, super-ripe Cabernet Sauvignon with no hard edges. Here, too, the flavors remain surprisingly primary. The visceral thrill of the best years is missing, but there is plenty of appeal today. Dried rose petal, cinnamon and sweet red berries linger on the close. (AG)" (05/2014)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2003 Husic "Dos Palmas Vineyard " Cabernet Sauvignon . Husic's 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon is very, very dark in color, and shows deep chocolate-cherry aromas that evolve into raspberry cordial and warm clove/spice tones. Soft and rich at entry, the fruit-infused flavors combine with hints of grilled anise and cocoa. The wine shows remarkable density and structure, yet very supple tannins, a testimony to this perfect growing season, which yielded small quantities of intensely flavored grapes.

Brambly raspberry, currant and tobacco aromas complicated by hints of dill and dried flowers; almost pinot-like. Wonderfully sweet and velvety-deep, with a pliant texture given shape and verve by lively acidity. This is already delicious but should be even better for a year of two of additional cellaring. Bid on this bottle of 2003 Abreu "Thorevilos" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (97RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Like the Madrona Ranch, the 2003 Thorevilos comes from the St. Helena AVA. Co-owned with Ric Forman, this is one of the true first-growth sites in all of California. The dense plum/ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of white acacia flowers, blueberry liqueur, creme de cassis and incense. The wine cuts a slightly deeper, richer, fuller-bodied mouthfeel than even the Madrona, but displays no harshness. Just entering its plateau of full maturity, the wine offers beautiful purity, symmetry and density as well as a subtle hint of new oak. A certain youthfulness suggests it might outlive its sibling, but it is still too early to know. (RP)" (06/2013)
