Bid on this bottle of 1998 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (97RP, 96JD, 93ST, 92VN, 91JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1998 Mouton Rothschild is deep garnet-brick in color with lovely crème de cassis, dried roses, hoisin and baking spice notes with underlying notions of dried cherries and mulberries plus touches of wood smoke, incense and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied and packed with rich fruit framed by firm, chewy tannins, it is stacked with complex, evolving flavors and finishes with incredibly long-lasting perfumed notes. According to winemaker Philippe Dhalluin, this needs about three hours of decanting at this stage. I simply love the place this wine is in right now, possessing plenty of mature, tertiary characters yet still sporting bags of fruit. (LPB)" (05/2018)
Starting Bid: $360.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1998 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (94JG). John Gilman: "This was the first time that I had the pleasure to taste the 1998 vintage of Martha’s Vineyard and the wine is excellent. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a ripe and classic constellation of sappy cherries, blood orange, a touch of red currant, eucalyptus, a fine base of soil, cedar and fine spicy complexity in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and now nicely open for business as it closes on its twentieth birthday, with a superb core, impeccable balance and a very long, complex and moderately tannic finish. A classic in the making. (Drink between 2020-2060) 94+" (09/2016)
Starting Bid: $310.00

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1998 Pierre Usseglio Châteauneuf-du-Pape (90RP, 90VN). Vinous: "Good bright deep red. Deep aromas of roasted red fruits and underbrush. Large-scaled, rich and rather unrefined, with notes of cherry, leather, smoke and earth. Huge, mouthcoating, rather rustic finish. Not showing quite the verve it displayed from barrel a year ago but undeniably massive. (ST)" (01/2001)
Starting Bid: $150.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1998 Plumpjack "Estate" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate reveals sweet tannin. It is well-balanced, lush, elegant, and harmonious. (RP)" (12/2000)
Starting Bid: $100.00

Bid on this bottle of 1998 Cheval Blanc, St-Émilion (100DC, 100JD, 100RP, 98WS, 96JS, 95VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1998 Cheval Blanc, a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc, is deep garnet-brick in color and absolutely explodes with scents of exotic spices, incense, dried roses, cigar box and licorice, with a core of crème de cassis and dried cherries plus touches of black tea and dusty earth. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the mouth with rich, plushly textured fruit and then POW—it hits the mid-palate with an explosion of Chinese five spice and floral perfume sparks, leading to an epically long finish. This cannot fail to impress and can easily cellar for another 30 years or more. (LPB)" (05/2018)

Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 1998 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (93RP, 92VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (13,000 cases) will disprove all the naysayers about how bad the vintage was in the North Coast. It possesses an opaque ruby/purple color, a gorgeous perfume of loamy soil, new saddle leather, chocolate, and black cherry and black currant fruit, full body, and ripe tannin in the finish. As it sits in the glass, notes of cedar and spice box also emerge. (RP)" (08/2002)
Starting Bid: $350.00

Bid on this bottle of 1998 Gaja "Costa Russi" Langhe Nebbiolo (96WS, 94ST, 90RP). Wine Spectator: "Intense aromas of tar and dark fruits. Full and solid, with chewy tannins and mineral, blueberry and blackberry flavors. Structured, yet fruity. Give it time. Tight still. But so layered and impressive. (Web-2008)"
Starting Bid: $200.00

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1998 Saint-Pierre, St-Julien. Vinous: "The 1998 Saint-Pierre offers blackberry, sage, cedar and tobacco on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a little green on the entry but nothing to get concerned about. And that dissipates towards the ferrous, spicy second half that displays commendable depth with a tang of orange rind right on the finish. Not bad at all. (NM)" (05/2018)
Starting Bid: $207.00

Bid on this bottle of 1998 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac (96RP, 96VN, 95WS, 94DC, 94ST). Vinous: "The 1998 Lafite-Rothschild is served from double magnum directly from the château reserves, in fact with the man who made it sitting opposite me – Charles Chevalier. I must admit to being quite amazed how well this shows at 20-years of age, trouncing all the other First Growths except Haut-Brion. Lucid in colour, it has a vivid bouquet of pure blackberry, blueberry, vanilla and graphite, perhaps just a little uncharacteristically showy in style, but beautifully defined and intense. The palate is perfectly balanced with layers of ripe black fruit, perfectly pitched acidity and a silky smooth texture that renders this utterly seductive. It is almost too good for me to recommend cellaring longer. Whatever...it is a sublime Lafite-Rothschild that on this showing, may well challenge the supremacy of the 1996. Tasted at the Académie du Vin dinner in Bordeaux. (NM)" (07/2018)
Starting Bid: $550.00

Bid on this bottle of 1998 Paul Autard "La Côte Ronde" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (95JD, 93RP). Jeb Dunnuck: "Drinking perfectly and possessing classic aromas of mature, garrigue-laced Grenache fruit, saddle leather, truffle, spice cabinet, and licorice, the 1998 Domaine Paul Autard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée La Cote Ronde shows not a hint of its modern elevage and displays nothing but pure, southern Rhône character in both its aromas and palate feel. Full-bodied and still beautifully fruited and rich, with an almost Burgundian silkiness and polish, this superb ’98 is fully mature (it held up and improved over the evening), yet should continue to evolve gracefully for another 5-8 years, possible longer. Having said that, I think it is drinking at point, and would plan on drinking over the next handful of years while the fruit is still vibrant and fresh. Beautiful stuff anyway you look at it and a solid, positive data-point on how these modern, barrique-aged cuvees develop and age. " (06/2012)
Starting Bid: $42.00

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1998 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley reveals complex aromatics of spice box, fruit cake, new oak, and dried herbs. Its frontal attack offers plenty of black currant fruit, licorice, olives, and Provencal herbs. (RP)" (08/2002)
Starting Bid: $240.00

Bid on this magnum of 1998 Sine Qua Non "E-Raised" Central Coast Syrah (1.5L) (97RP, 93WE, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " In addition to these new releases, I was also able to taste through a number of older vintages, including the 2001 Albino, 2006 Hoodoo Man, 2003 The Inaugural, 2004 Ode to E, 1998 E Raised, 2001 On Your Toes, 2005 Nail in My Cranium and 2007 Syrah Dangerous Birds. To say I came away impressed would be an understatement. Anyone who claims this big, rich style can-t age needs to taste these wines. I opted to just list my scores for the older releases as I find Bob's initial write-ups spot on. (JD)" (08/2013)
