Milk & Honey is located in Tel Aviv, Israel where they say the warm Mediterranean climate helps the spirits age quickly and with unique notes that reflects Israeli terroir. Distiller notes: "This is a special single malt blend of three cask types: ex-bourbon, ex-red wine STR and ex-Islay casks previously used to mature peated whisky from Isley in Scotland. The ex-Islay casks provide an additional layer of light peatiness and maritime aroma. Each of the different casks contributes a complexity to the spirit, balancing and refining the different flavors f...

Distiller's notes: "To create this whisky, we travelled all the way to Jerez, Spain, and had Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry made especially for us. The casks, once filled with quality sherry and seasoned for one year in Jerez, were brought to the distillery to mature our New-Make spirit for a wonderful complex whisky. The M&H Elements Sherry is the first and only kosher single malt whisky in the world, aged in Sherry casks. This single malt reveals robust flavors of red fruit, dark chocolate, and oaky notes. Mark Squires writes: "Contrary to popular impression, Israel does not have just one uniform terroir. At Castel, one of Israel's iconic wineries, the wines are usually elegant, and the Judean Hills vines come in at an average altitude of 700 meters (up to near 800). Elegance comes from the terroir, but it is also the goal, obviously. Some of the older wines closer to the winery's beginnings showed less finesse, but even then, there was good balance. These days, Castel is mostly always graceful."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 La Vie Red is a blend of 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 24% Syrah, 10% Petit Verdot and dollops of other grapes, all aged in an equal mixture of used French oak and stainless steel for three months. This was in bottle for about six weeks before it was tasted. It seemed young but fine. It can be drunk a few degrees cooler than normal, but there is ample stuffing here for the style. Crisp and clean, this shows fine structure and that glorious purity of fruit. Tight on the finish just now, this needed a bit more...

Wine Enthusiast: "This inky-garnet-colored wine proffers a bouquet of cassis and butterscotch. It is full in the mouth, with flavors of black currant, raspberry, toffee and anisette. Silky tannins play on the palate into a spicy finish. Kosher. (MD)" (04/2020)
