2017 Amalaya Torrontes-Riesling Salta

91 points James Suckling: "A vibrant, but well-balanced dry white with tons of fresh fruit salad aromas and a hint of floral honey. A crisp, salty, mineral finish. A great food wine! A blend of Torrontes and Riesling." (04/2018) Vinous: "Pale, bright yellow. Delicate scents of lemon, flowers, dusty herbs and mint accented by a mineral element. Sweet, savory wine with piercing minerality and firm acidity. A bit metallic and hard-edged but I give this wine a slight edge over the 2016. Finishes limey and uncompromisingly dry. (ST)" (07/2018) K&L Notes: ...

2017 Altos Las Hormigas Tinto Mendoza, Argentina

48% Malbec, 45% Bonarda, 7% Semillon Grapes come mainly from vineyards in Luján de Cuyo and Medrano, Malbec and Semillon grapes are co-fermented, while Bonarda is vinified separately before the final blend. The wine is then aged for a minimum of 9 months in concrete vats. No oak aging. This is the best/most delicious history lesson to be had. Before Argentine Malbec conquered the world this is the type of red that you would find. It is juicy fresh and lively with easy tannins and charming red fruits. This wine was ment for drinking, not pondering. G ...

2017 Ver Sacrum Garnacha Chacayes

Eduardo Soler and two friends started Ver Sacrum in 2012 with the concept of growing and vinifying Rhône Varietals. Their winemaking ethos focuses on fresh, low alcohol, lighter skin contact, native yeast, honest, and easy drinking wines. 2017 Montesco "Agua de Roca" Sauvignon Blanc Uco Valley

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "2017 is possibly closer to 2014 or 2015, a dry year that produced a concentrated, healthy and powerful wine, and the 2017 Montesco Agua de Roca has 13% alcohol, the highest since 2011. The grapes ripened very fast, and yields were low. The wine is softer and balanced, with integrated alcohol. It has the character of the wine and the place where the grapes are grown (the same every year), and that character is stronger than the ripeness, as it's still vertical and with very good acidity. This is an austere white t ...

2017 Finca Decero "Remolinos Vineyard" Malbec Mendoza

93 points Wine & Spirits: "Swiss billionaire Thomas Schmidheiny launched this estate in 2000, settling on a barren plateau in Agrelo at 3,500 feet altitude. The winds here skate across the soil—a mix of alluvial deposits and sandy loam over gravel—whipping up small remolinos, little whirlwinds of dust. The winery claims these remolinos are critical to the quality of their wines, keeping the grapevines dry and free from disease after it rains. Credit also goes to Tomás Hughes, a Mendoza native who joined the winery as winemaker in 2014 after stints at Ach ...

2017 Aniello Malbec Rio Negro

James Suckling: "This is quite rich and has some positive tannins, but is already rather developed. The berry fruit character is on the muted side. Drink now." (04/2018) Wine Enthusiast: "Cherry and plum aromas are as they are, with only a touch of creamy oak influence. This Patagonian Malbec is linear and compact in feel, while flavors suggest jammy raspberry and plum. Red fruit notes linger on a finish with mild tannins. (MS)" (08/2019) Wine Spectator: "Lithe, with a deep current of red plum, mineral and green herbal flavors that are matched to fre ...

2017 Viña Cobos "Felino" Malbec Mendoza

This Malbec is always a terrific value, showcasing Mendoza fruit with a California style, and at a great price. No wonder, since Viña Cobos founder Paul Hobbs is a renowned maker of "cult" Cabernet and Pinot Noir in California. He got his start in Argentina back in the 1990s, consulting for Nicolas Catena.

2017 Noemia de Patagonia "A Lisa" Malbec Rio Negro

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even after only a few weeks of being bottled, the 2017 A Lisa was expressive, exuberant and open. It has a little less alcohol and more acidity than the 2016 I tasted next to it, but it is especially much cleaner and more focused. It's always a similar blend of grapes from 15- to 40-year-old vineyards, mostly Malbec with 9% Merlot and a pinch of Petit Verdot. It fermented with 10% full clusters and matured in used barriques and stainless steel vats for ten months. 2017 saw a warm couple of weeks around the harves ...

2017 Bodega Chacra "Mainque" Chardonnay Rio Negro (Previously $50)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Mainqué Chardonnay is the second white produced with grapes from their own and their partners' vineyards that are worked by their own team, since the wines are organic and biodynamic. It was picked early, as some peaks of extreme heat made the grapes ripen early on while keeping the acidity. It fermented in barrel and didn't go through malolactic, reaching some 13% alcohol. The élevage was 11 months in barrique, in Damy barrels (some new and some used) that they took from Domaine Roulot in Burgundy. This ...

2017 Gen del Alma "Ji Ji Ji" Malbec/Pinot Noir Gualtallary (Previously $18)

Gen d'A is yet another Michelini brothers project, started by Gerardo Michelini and his wife Andrea Mufatto. They use fruit grown on a single vineyard in Gualtallary (within the Tupungato sub-zone). In contrast with the prior vintage, this 2017 is a bit brawnier, showcasing Malbec perhaps a bit more than Pinot, but still with lovely dark berry fruit flavors and an impressive, sturdy structure. Expressive, interesting wine from the new wave in Argentina!

2017 Jelu Chenin Blanc San Juan (Previously $16)

Based in the Zonda Valley of San Juan, a high altitude (nearly 4,000 feet asl) area with extremely rocky soils that are naturally high in potassium, Bodgas Borbore makes fresh, mineral wines in this little known viticultural area of Argentina. A bright, appley, squeaky clean Chenin produced from 10 year old vines, this is a great expression of the grape variety.

2017 Gen del Alma "Ji Ji Ji" Chenin Blanc Gualtallary (Previously $18)

In contrast to the racy, very low abv 2016, this vintage of Ji Ji Ji Chenin is a big boy at 11.5% abv! We love what Gen del Alma is doing in Tunuyan (Uco Valley), in this case from the paraje (sort of like the French notion of a lieu dit, or named place smaller than a village but bigger than a vineyard) of Villa Seca. With tangy quince flavors and great concentration due to the 70-year-old vines, this Chenin is a gem and a steal for the price.
