Suau is a Spanish producer on the island of Mallorca producing premium brandy, traditionally aged in the microclimate of their underground cellar, using the traditional solera system and under the same conditions the company once did 160 years ago. The orange liqueur is the result of the combination of Suau 8 year old brandy with a careful maceration of different parts of various types of oranges, each producing its own identity. For sweet oranges from Valencia, they macerate the mature peel, the white peel, and parts of fruit juices, and for the sour ta...

90-95 points Wine Enthusiast: " *Superb/Highly Recommended; One of Top 50 Spirits of 2009* Smells nicely of sweet grass, paraffin, acetate and wheat crackers; aeration bolsters the aromatic impressions of the first round and adds a subtle spiciness (nutmeg?) that complements the grassy quality. Palate entry teems with zesty, spicy, medicinal and grassy flavors; midpalate flavors come off chocolaty and milky, with disparate background tastes of egg cream and green pepper." (07/2009) K&L Notes: At the restaurant where I worked as a student in London, the...

Distilled from the Dalmatian marasca cherry, providing pleasure for numerous fastidious connoisseurs ever since. Historically recognized and preferred by some of the world's greatest. Gin Mare is a product we discovered in Scotland, of all places, years ago while searching for single malt. The retailer across the street from our hotel in Edinburgh was featuring the gin in a tasting that evening and we went over to check it out. Distilled in Spain with olives, rosemary, basil, and thyme, it's a savory and truly Mediterranean experience. The herbs never overpower the palate, however, as the balance between them is quite delicate and refined. It's definitely an ideal choice for martinis, paired with olives, of course.

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Bold black fruit aromas with integrated oak make for a ripe, bold nose with good intentions. A full palate shows grabby weight, while this blend of Tannat, Merlot and Zinfandel tastes of blackberry, cassis and prune prior to a toasty, smoky finish. *Editors' Choice* (MS)" (06/2019) K&L Notes: Unique red blend from Uruguay, featuring this South American nation's only Zinfandel in the mix! Dave Mcintyre of the Washington Post says: "Artesana’s Tannat-Merlot-Zinfandel is probably the best wine I’ve tasted from Uruguay."

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Crisp and classic, this gin is ideal for martinis. A light cucumber aroma leads the nose, opening up with more cucumber and juniper on the palate, finishing smooth and brisk on nutmeg and coriander accents. (KN)" (08/2016) K&L Notes: Miller's Gin is handcrafted and made in very small batches. It's then transported by ship to Iceland. Here, in the small village of Borgarnes, on Iceland's remote west coast, lies the Selyri spring, source of some of the purest water to be found on earth. This spring water is blended with the s...

Two visionaries collide in this most unique rum. Richard Seale, proprietor of Foursquare and darling of the rum world has allowed Marc Darroze of artisan Armagnac fame to select some choice spirit, always a blend of expertly fermented and distilled pot and column molasses distillate, and finish its aging in France at chez Darroze. The finishing is one of the most unique in the world and occured in barrels that had previously held late-harvest Jurançon wine. The results of these two great minds coming together are stupendous. Incredibly pure and accessibl...

91 points Wine & Spirits: "Plump with Atlantic freshness, this is an albariño with spine. The brisk flavors of a Macintosh apple, the richness of Macadamia nuts and a floral buzz all come together in a bright white for roast fish." (02/2020) Wine Spectator: "Notes of salted almond accent the well-spiced flavors of white cherry and gooseberry. Finishes crisp, with hints of green olive. Drink now through 2022. (KM, Web-2020)" Jancis Robinson: "Fermented and aged 3–6 months on lees in stainless-steel tanks. TA 6.9 g/l, pH 3.35, RS 3 g/l. Screwcap. Peachy...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Best Buy* Setting the benchmark for London dry-style gins, look for a fresh, clean scent and flavors of lemon peel and juniper, accented by white pepper, ginger, cayenne and coriander before fading to zingy lemon and a mildly sweet exit. At 47% abv it reads a little hot, but it's ideal for drinks with a bit of dilution, like a classic Gin & Tonic. (KN)" (09/2016) K&L Notes: *Gold* 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. From the Beverage Testing Institute: "93 points--*Exceptional and a Best Buy*-- Vibrant aromas of c...

One of the best known Quadrupels available on the market today, the St. Bernardus Abt 12 has earned its place in the spotlight. Based on one of the original recipes from the Trappist Monks of Westvleteren, which was given to the cheese-making abbey of St. Bernardus. (From WWII until 1992 the beer was sold under the names Trappist Westvleteren, St. Sixtus and Sixtus.) The beer is dark and full-bodied, with a fruity nose and complex palate striking the perfect balance between malty, bitter and sweet.

Dancing pink elephants? No this beer is not like watching Dumbo under the influence of psychedelics, but it is intense. Made by Huyghe-Melle, the oldest still-active brewery in Ghent, Belgium. Their best known brew--and perhaps one of the best-known Belgian beers in all the U.S.--is the Delirium Tremens, a blonde ale with mouth-coating malt flavors, bitter peppery notes and bright, complementary fruit.

Just when you think you've tasted every type of booze known to man, you discover that there are yet more regionally specific spirits being distilled in places you've never considered. Take Bolivia, for example. In Bolivia they make a pisco-like spirit called Singani, distilled from Muscat of Alexandria grapes grown high in the Andes mountains. Seeing that Muscat is an aromatic varietal, known for its fruity and floral character, the Singani spirit distilled from it takes on many of the perfumes found in the expressive grape. The result is a clean and vib...

90-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "An earthy, dry, clean, and bean- and cane-like aroma with delicate scents of cocoa bean, vanilla bean, and brown sugar. The palate entry is bittersweet, concentrated and beany; at midpalate the flavor profile becomes sweeter and more like vanilla extract. The bean intensity reaches its bittersweet zenith in the high-flying aftertaste. Chic, racy, and delicious. *Superb, Highly Recommended*" (06/2006) K&L Notes: Distilled and bottled on the island paradise of Mauritius. The locally grown cane matures on volcanic soils, whi...

The source of this rare rum is a complete mystery without any clues available to us, save for the fact that we know it was distilled in the Caribbean. We have no clue where this was distilled. There's no way you can get us to tell you where it was distilled because we simply do not know. But for those of you who remember the old Faultline "Caribbean" Single Barrels, you'll know immediately remember how rare a rum like this actually is. In fact, this tastes in line with those special and unusual barrels we once bottled, which featured prominently an obscu...

"The Gueuze Tilquin à l’ancienne (6.4% alc / vol) is a spontaneous fermentation beer obtained from the blending of 1, 2 and 3 years old lambics. Unfiltered and unpasteurized, it is re-fermented in the bottle for a minimum period of 6 months. The lambics used were fermented and matured in our own oak barrels at the blendery. They are made from worts brewed by Boon, Lindemans, Girardin and Cantillon. The taste is tart and dry but has a certain roundness that makes this Gueuze à l’ancienne particularly accessible for non-experts. It will also delight fans o...

Chopin Vodka, imported from Poland, is crafted from 100% hand-cultivated Stobrawa potatoes. It is four times distilled to create full flavored, smooth and clean vodka. This family owned distillery has operated since 1992, and produces exclusively small batch single-ingredient vodkas. While often compared to many of the other mass market brands production is extremely small when compared to its rivals. This allows for incredibly high standard of quality. (06/2020) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "A ripe blackberry aroma mixes with a touch of saline on the nose. The palate of this Tannat from a benchmark vintage is ripe and full in feel. Blackberry jam and spice flavors are ripe and satisfying, while this is warm and complete on the finish. (MS)" (05/2020)

The only spirit imported into the U.S. from the small African island nation Mauritius, STARR rum is unique in many respects. The distillery had been in operation for nearly 100 years, but only produced and marketed locally on the island, until an American entrepreneur named Jeffrey Zarnow was given a bottle as a gift. His immediate impression was that he needed to drink this stuff all the time, and the only way to do that was to import it himself. So, through a capital partnership initiative sponsored by the African Union, Jeffrey and his partners revita...

Today the estate includes a cellar dating back to the 15th century as well as modern wine production facility with new equipment incorporated into the historic site. The incredible history of Chinese of fermenting Sorghum and other grains for alcohol production is thousands of years old. There's evidence that those grains were being distilled as early as 800 BC. Modern Baijiu production begins in earnest around the 13th century. The biggest difference between grain alcohol production in China and Europe in terms of technology has to do with the use of solid state fermentation. Instead of using enzymes from malting grain, the Chinese developed a system of bacteria fermentation (much like Koji in Sake production), but ...

NAMGIN begins with an eau de vie of dates. This flavorful and complex base spirit sets NAMGIN apart from nearly all other gins, which typically start with a neutral base. The dates are farmed and harvested on location at the Naute Kristall distillery in Keetmanshoop, Namibia. The fermented date mash alcohol is then tranformed into three distinct spirits: a classic juniper extraction with Java pepper and cardamom, spiced spirit with cinnamon, ginger, lavender, rosemary, peppermint, coriander, and acacia flowers and a citrus brandy from oranges, lemons an...
