This limited release of 3000 bottles from Glencadam is made up entirely of whisky produced since the distillery came back into production in August of 2003. It's a pure expression of the delicate nature of Glencadam. The nose is soft and inviting. Creamy, full of vanilla, brioche, and fresh jam. The palate and finish move to a slightly richer and nuttier expression showing toffee, citrus zest, and a light cocoa dust.

The "Secret Islay" from the famous Cooper's Choice brand owned by the Vintage Malt Whisky Co. This is the company that made the Finlaggan brand a thing. It's likely a single vintage Lagavulin for a seemingly affordable price and there's no question that with the success of Diageo's own 8 year Laggie, these casks are in even more demand. The style is big bold smoke, citrus oil, brine and subtle herbs. Medium to full bodied, it definitely doesn't feel like Laphroaig or Ardbeg! Maybe there's a tiny chance it's Caol Ila, but the weight definitely makes us th...

93 points Whisky Advocate: "A riddle inside a bottle, this release follows Glenlivet’s previous mystery series bottlings Alpha, Cipher, and Code. Packaged in a jet-black bottle and box that looks part Arthur C. Clarke monolith and part 3-D cryptic crossword puzzle, it’s devoid of cask information or tasting notes by design. The best solution is to open it and unlock the whisky’s secrets. Classic Glenlivet notes of lemon curd, melon, fresh peaches, bitter orange, and baked apples on the nose, followed by a smooth, creamy palate of marshmallow, toasted alm...

Glenlivet "First Fill" 12 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Elsewhere $52) (Elsewhere $52)
Top Pick!
The special release Glenlivet 12 Year Old First Fill is now available at the same price as the regular 12 year release from Glenlivet - a world standard in fine Single Malt. These two whiskies however are world's apart. The First Fill bottling blows the standnard 12 year issue out of the water. It's matured exclusively in first fill American oak barrels lending a much richer and more intense barrel profile when compared to flagship brother. The extra punch of vanilla, caramel and spice also serves to bring out more of the beautiful stone fruits and honey...

Arran "Machrie Moor" Cask Strength Peated Island Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Previously $80) (Previously $80)
Top Pick!
The folks at Arran, which has been independently owned since its inception in 1995, have been quietly making some of the best island-distilled whisky in Scotland for 25 years. Their water source is 100% rainwater coming from Loch Na Davie, high above the distillery. The clean water, combined with 100% concerto malt and a careful distillation, is the essence of Arran — it's fresh, barley-forward, and shows flavors heavy with citrus, stone fruit, and vanilla pudding. They never color or chill filter any of their whiskies, choosing instead to retain all of ...

Whisky Advocate: "The only survivor from Old Pulteney’s core range shake-up of 2018, this has been matured in first and second-fill bourbon casks. The nose is delicate, with almonds, honey, and floral notes. Malt and toffee on the palate, with spicy oak and a hint of brine. The medium-length finish is nutty, with wood spices. (GS, Winter 2018)" K&L Notes: The Old Pulteney distillery is the most northerly distillery on the Scottish mainland, situated in the town of Wick. Your nose and palate discern complex combinations, robust yet delicate with a hint o...

Arran "The Bothy" Quarter Cask Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Previously $80) (Previously $80)

Whisky Advocate: "Representing House Targaryen, this features its three-headed dragon on the label. Malt and honey on the subtle nose, with a hint of cinnamon. Medium-bodied, with milk chocolate, caramel, and youthful oak. Jaffa orange and gentle spice in the relatively short, spiky finish. (GS, Spring 2019)" K&L Notes: Part of Diageo's line of eight single malt whiskies to commemorate the eighth and final season of HBO's hit television series Game of Thrones that is based on the novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire, by George R.R. Martin. In Westeros, ...

Glencadam 15 year old Single Malt Whisky (750ml) (Elsewhere $87) (Elsewhere $87)
Back In Stock!
A surpisinngly delicate single malt of 15 years from a rather obscure, but very old distillery. Glencadam was founded in 1825 and spent much of the 1900's in the Allied Distiller's porfolio before being mothballed in 2000 and sold to the current ownership group in 2003. Angus Dundee Distiller's purchased the distillery and got it up and running again. They've stayed true to their original style of a very mellow and easy drinking Highland Scotch. All of the current bottlings are bottled at 46%ABV with no color or chill filtration.

1988 Auchentoshan Bordeaux Cask Finished Lowland Scotch Single Malt Whisky (750ml) (Elsewhere $600) (Elsewhere $600)
Top Pick!
Having spent eight years in ex-bourbon fill, American oak and another 17 years in Bordeaux French oak, the 1988 Auchentoshen is a rarity in at least a few regards. First, this is the longest finishing regime Auchentoshen has ever applied to one of their whiskies, and at the time of release it was the longest wine cask finished whisky ever produced, anywhere in the world. The nose carries the oak with distinction, as the barrel elements back up a profile redolent of early autumn fruit along with zesty nutmeg and cardamom nuances. On the palate, the casks ...

92 points Whisky Advocate: "Following last year’s release of The Dark, this parallel 17 year old cask-strength expression was matured in refill American oak. The nose yields vanilla, oats, ripe pears, and mild wood-fire embers. Supple and initially sweet on the palate, with icing sugar, tangerines, and developing darker, spicier notes. Lengthy in the finish, with spicy cedar oil. Proof that Highland Park doesn’t need sherry casks to be good. (GS, Fall 2018)" K&L Notes: The Light is a limited release of 28,000 bottles that is the yin to The Dark's yang. ...

Mortlach 15 Year Old "Game of Thrones Six Kingdoms" Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Previously $150) (Previously $150)
Top Pick!
91 points Whisky Advocate: "The ninth and final release in Diageo’s Game of Thrones series was aged in first-fill sherry-seasoned casks and finished in bourbon barrels. Vanilla and toffee, plus spicy oak on the nose, while the full sherried palate yields dry fruit, spicy citrus notes, almonds, more vanilla, and caramel. The leisurely finish presents wood spices and Jaffa oranges. (GS, Spring 2020)" K&L Notes: The ninth (and final?) release in Diageo's Game of Thrones Collection, Six Kingdoms, is a 15-year-old Mortlach single malt, matured in a combinati...

The Tweeddale brand was created by the brothers John and Andrew Davidson in the mid-1800s. In 1895, Richard Day was hired as an office boy and began to learn the art of blending. Mr. Day took over the business in 1923 and continued to buy and blend whiskies until World War II caused a decline in market viability. Day sold his stocks and retired. In 2010, Alasdair Day inherited his great-grandfather's cellar book and the quest to recreate the Tweeddale whisky was born. The peated Grain of Truth is one of the most unusual and exciting examples on the marke...

91 points Whisky Advocate: "I feel this is by far the best whisky in the standard Auchentoshan portfolio, and it is one of the best Auchentoshans ever released. It’s delicious, nicely balanced, and with lovely depth for a Lowland whisky. Baked muffins, creamy vanilla, honey, and caramel blend nicely with delicate fruit notes (lemon, red current, strawberries). An impeccably balanced whisky. Similar to the 10 year old reviewed below, but with greater depth and a drier finish. (JH, Winter 2004)" K&L Notes: The quintessential Lowland single malt; it doesn’...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fresh aromas suggest red apple slices and hint of vanilla. The supersoft palate rings out with vanilla cookie and custard, finishing long and mouthwatering on sweet spices, piquant cayenne and drying hints of cigar wrapper and campfire smoke. Consider this as a dessert pairing. (KN)" (12/2020) Whisky Advocate: "Gold color. Delicate aromas of tropical fruits (coconut, pineapple, mango), marshmallow and vanilla. Light in body, with delicate exotic flavors that deliver what the aroma promises. Soft, gentle, delicately creamy fi...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "The dense aroma, profound with honey and wafting with smoke, hints at what's to come. On the palate, sweet vanilla and baked apple give way to lots of mouthwatering spice on the finish—clove, cinnamon and nutmeg. (KN)" (12/2013) K&L Notes: This whisky just shocked the hell out of us when we retasted it recently. It's supple, textural, chewy, and full of sweet barley and pure Scotch whisky flavor. Imagine a combination of the Glenmorangie 18 and Oban 18, a whisky that is the perfect balance point between these two classic mal...

Whisky Advocate: "Toasted coconut, custard cream biscuits, vanilla, freshly peeled banana skins, and ice cream wafers make this an enticing olfactory prospect. Vanilla, lemon, cream, and shortbread, this puffs out beautifully with a tug of pepper, always in balance, before relaxing into lemon meringue pie territory, with those sweet lemons persisting into the finish. A mellow, well-balanced offering, but you’ll know the truth when you taste it. (JM, Spring 2019)" K&L Notes: The Tweeddale brand was created by the brothers John and Andrew Davidson in the ...
