Whisky Advocate: "The latest While We Wait bottling comprises a mix of peated and unpeated whisky from an undisclosed distillery, finished in French oak Tuscan wine casks. Fragrant on the nose, with freshly mown hay, gentle smoke, berries, honey, and hot chocolate. Apricots and red wine on the palate, with vanilla and dried fruits, against a backdrop of singed woodsmoke. Nutty and oaky in the slightly oily finish. (GS, Spring 2020)" K&L Notes: The Isle of Raasay has for centuries been associated with the production of illicit alcohol. The far flung Isla...

93 points Whisky Advocate: "Fresh, vibrant, and beautifully complex. A clean, malty foundation accentuated by bright complex fruit, delicate spice, dried flowers, and gentle honeyed vanilla notes that linger on the palate. This is a wonderful whisky which is very versatile, but I can only imagine what it would taste like at 46% and unchill-filtered like the wood finish expressions. (Vol. 17, #2) Reviewed by: John Hansell " 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Smooth and mellow, like nuts drizzled with honey or Bit O’Honey candy, with a light vanilla finish. Mat...

The "Secret Islay" from the famous Cooper's Choice brand owned by the Vintage Malt Whisky Co. This is the company that made the Finlaggan brand a thing. It's likely a single vintage Lagavulin for a seemingly affordable price and there's no question that with the success of Diageo's own 8 year Laggie, these casks are in even more demand. The style is big bold smoke, citrus oil, brine and subtle herbs. Medium to full bodied, it definitely doesn't feel like Laphroaig or Ardbeg! Maybe there's a tiny chance it's Caol Ila, but the weight definitely makes us th...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Had the Dufftown/Speyside Towiemore Distillery not closed in 1931, this is Lost Distillery's take on what the whiskey might taste like today, part of a series. This blended Scotch has a copper penny hue and an aroma that intertwines light peat smoke with baked pear and tea. The palate shows cocoa, peat smoke, cigar wrapper and tea, finishing with clove sparks in a long, warm, smoky and chocolaty finish. *Best Buy* (KN)" (12/2016) 90 points Whisky Advocate: "Built between Keith and Dufftown in 1898, but closed at the start of...

Wine Enthusiast: "This golden Scotch has a peaty aroma, with a honeyed undercurrent. Notably smooth and silky on the palate, a medicinal, iodine note leads on the palate, followed by bold peat smoke and hints of BBQ-like mesquite. A faint citrus note plays on the smoky, peppery fade. (KN)" (12/2016) K&L Notes: The Lost Distillery Company describes itself as "an independent, boutique Scotch whisky company" with a mission "to create present day expressions of legendary whiskies that belonged to the craft of whisky distilling almost a century ago." The Lo...

Wine Enthusiast: "The 55% abv blue label is one of the strongest and most expensive gins on the market. Look for the trademark faint yellowish-saffron tinge and herbal scent, with assertive pine and anise flavors and a tart lemony touch. Serve this overproof gin tamed with ice and lots of tonic. (KN)" (04/2012) K&L Notes: Old Raj Gin is distinctive in that it contains a measure of saffron, the rare and costly spice derived from the crocus flower. In addition to the slightly spicy flavor, this also imparts a pale yellow color. The subtle, aristocratic b...

Wine Enthusiast: "Although the “Botanist” name might suggest a floral gin, instead the flavor profile veers toward herbs and spices. There’s a subtle, herbal scent, with anise flavors up front, backed by coriander seed and cassia bark on the spicy finish. Made by Bruichladdich Distillery, which is renowned for its Scotch, on a pot-still named Ugly Betty. Sold in an attractive, square-shouldered, gift-worthy bottle. The first featherlight sips open with vanilla custard, orchard fruit and coconut cream, rounding into enticing red fruit on the finish. A splash of water unlocks more red fruit, along with tinges of butterscotch, oak and spice. *Best Buy* (KN)" (12/2020) 91 points Whisky Advocate: "Nostalgic aromas of wafers, white chocolate, hints of spice, and vanilla ice cream make this a mouthwatering choice. Isle Of Skye 12 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Back In Stock!
Blended together and then aged for additional months in oak casks, this new, more mature blend of Isle of Skye is far superior to its 8 years aged counterpart. While the 8 year has a classic grain component, the 12 year smooths all of that greenness out with more supple wood, rounding out the palate and really bringing the Talisker smoke to the forefront. For less than $40, this is one of the hottest deals we have in Scotch. It's meant to be drunk on the rocks, but you could have a great time sipping this one. Supple vanilla, smoky peat, and a long, smoo...

Refreshing palate of green melon, light honey, vanilla, cinnamon, cooked apple, and gooseberry, becoming sour. 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aged in bourbon casks for 10 years, then 'extra matured' for two years in Oloroso Sherry casks. The result is luxe and rich, a fine after-dinner sipper. Allow a little time for the aroma to emerge, and a splash of water for maximum flavor. The reward is a thick caramel aroma and flavor, with mouthwatering spicy notes of clove, cassia bark and a hint of orange peel. Hendrick's Scottish Gin (750ml)
Top Pick!
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This gin has a fierce following, in part because of its quirky brand personality (see the Monty Python-esque website) and aggressive marketing among bartenders. But it lives up to the hype. Some might expect a more concentrated rosewater-cucumber profile, but it's relatively subtle, with just a hint of cucumber mingling with juniper in the aroma, and white pepper, citrus and floral notes on the lingering finish. (KN)" (04/2012) K&L Notes: This unique, handcrafted gin has been infused with cucumber and rose petals. Very aroma...

Rich and full-bodied in the mouth, with malt, sweet sherry, and cotton candy, plus cloves and a sprinkling of sea salt. The finish offers red berries, lively spice, and dark chocolate. A veil of smoke rises through the Scotch (but fades out fast), leaving behind a sweet nutty, vanilla finish. *Top 50 Spirits of 2011* " (12/2011) 90 points Whisky Advocate: "Highland Park 12 Year Old boasts individuality and complexity, thanks in part to the use of Orcadian peat in the distillery floor maltings and the employment of ex-sherry casks for maturation. The nose is fragrant and floral, with hints of heather and some spi...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aged in former American whiskey casks, then finished in barrels that previously held PX and oloroso sherries, this single malt balances sweetness, spice and oak. Caramel and vanilla aromas are echoed on the velvety palate, plus cocoa and espresso, finishing with clove, cinnamon and a hint of lemon peel. (KN)" (12/2017) Whisky Advocate: "Nicely sherried. 97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aged in oak and former Sherry casks, this enticing Scotch has a ripe red-apple scent and rich salted caramel and butterscotch on the palate. It’s powerful, with a thick, buttery feel and a long finish of lip-smacking spice cake and sea brine notes. (KN)" (12/2015) Whisky Advocate: "Somehow this 12 year old—a mix of sherry and American oak—is overlooked by malt lovers heading straight to the mental world of a’Bunadh. The James Macarthur brand of single cask single malt is not well known in the states, but they've been around for nearly three decades and offer some unique expressions from high quality distillers. This very young Bunnahabhain is much more gentle than the average Islay, without the use of peat-dried barley, but offers subtle aromatics and a interesting saline quality. The exceptional price and unique qualities of this cask are what first intrigued us, but the amazing price reduction is what sealed the deal. If you're looking to better understand the old...

The Tweeddale brand was created by the brothers John and Andrew Davidson in the mid-1800s. In 1895, Richard Day was hired as an office boy and began to learn the art of blending. Mr. Day took over the business in 1923 and continued to buy and blend whiskies until World War II caused a decline in market viability. Day sold his stocks and retired. In 2010, Alasdair Day inherited his great-grandfather's cellar book and the quest to recreate the Tweeddale whisky was born. The peated Grain of Truth is one of the most unusual and exciting examples on the marke...

Isle of Jura 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky (750ml)

Jura has a fascinating house style. They mostly produce unpeated whiskey, but for a few weeks per year they make a very heavily peated style. All of their OB releases in the modern era are a blend of these two whiskies resulting in a light to moderate peated whisky that has a remarkable amount of depth and complexity to accompany its bracing salinity. Long a confusing mix of whisky styles and varying age statements, Jura has streamlined and introduced a 12 year in this modern house style. It's weighty on the palate, layering caramel with campfire smoke, finishing long on tones of dried fruit, spicy black pepper and clove. Isn’t that sufficient to give this dram some respect? A soft and sweet peated whisky from Knockdhu. There isn't much in the way of peated highland availability, but when you do find it typically it has a warm earthiness to the peat instead of the high salinity you find so often on Islay.
