2010 Marqués de Murrieta "Castillo Ygay" Gran Reserva Especial Rioja
Top Pick!
99 points James Suckling: "Marvelous aromas of crushed berries, tobacco, cedar and mushrooms. Some dried cheese. Then turns to flowers. Very complex. Full and intense with fantastic depth and power. It goes on for minutes. It is a wine that exudes tradition but gives a sense of modernity with precise winemaking. Two years in oak, one in concrete and three or four in bottle. Drink on release and age onwards." (07/2019) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I had very high expectations for the 2010 Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial, and the wine de...

98 points James Suckling: "The purity of fruit to this is very, very intriguing with blackberries, graphite, and charcoal. Full-bodied. It radiates intense fruit with perfectly polished tannins. Subtle asphalt and blue fruit. Very long and beautiful. Racy. Tempranillo with graciano and mazuelo. Needs two to four years of bottle age. Try after 2021." (12/2019) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I tasted a super young 2016 Torre Muga that had only been in bottle for some four months. But even so, the year seems to be approachable and open. Even if...

Spanish rum aged in the finest Oloroso casks in the world? Yes, please! From the San Francisco Chronicle: The product is a partnership between Equipo Navazos, which hunts and bottles rare individual casks of Sherry; and Nicolas Palazzi, who, under his PM Spirits label, does much the same with the hard stuff. The short story: Rum aged for five years in the Caribbean was bartered with a Sherry house, which then aged it another decade in a solera-style system of oloroso casks. The result is 1,500 bottles that combine the burnished depth of Sherry, the sweet...

98 points James Suckling: "The aromas to this are stunning with dried strawberry, stone and fresh mushroom. Full body and very tight with incredible depth and structure. It goes on for minutes. One of the greatest ever? The new 1964? " (01/2018) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I tasted the 2005 Gran Reserva 890 again, and I liked it better this time than in my previous review, even if I normally like the Gran Reserva 904 better than this bottling, as I find it better balanced. I tend to feel less energy in this wine, as it spends a very long ...

95 points James Suckling: "Attractive, sweetly aromatic, red-floral perfume with dried red cherries and some dried strawberries, too. Only hints of leather here. The palate has a beautifully fresh, succulent and elegantly focused feel with a long sleeve of dried-cherry flavor and gently nutty notes to close. Dry, long and mouthwatering finish. " (07/2019) 94 points Vinous: "Light bright amber-hued orange. Mineral- and spice-accented red currant and cherry scents, joined by building herb and floral nuances. Shows noteworthy depth as well as energy to th...

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The just-bottled 2017 Clos Erasmus is a blend of Garnacha with 25% Syrah that fermented with indigenous yeasts in oak vats and matured in 228-liter oak barrels (40% new). It feels very aromatic, expressive and open, floral and elegant and surprisingly fresh for the conditions of the year. It's still young and undeveloped, with the puppy fat still to be rendered, and right now, it comes through as juicy and elegant, with very good freshness and super fine tannins. It's very aromatic and floral, really impressive f...

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Contador (a meager 200 bottles for the American market) was sourced from three tiny parcels ranging in age from 65-80 years. It was fermented in new French barriques, aged for 12 months, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. The result is a spectacular wine with a remarkably expressive nose of pain grille, lead pencil, spice box, espresso, black currants, and wild blueberries that roars from the glass. The opulent palate is mouth-coating, thick, and full-flavored with the structure well-concealed by the ma...

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasting a new vintage of Las Beatas is always a special moment. The 2017 Las Beatas comes from grapes picked earlier than ever, from a year that was warm and dry, marked by frost in late April and low-yielding, despite which the wine is still 14% alcohol and feels delicate, floral and mysterious. It fermented in an open 3,000-liter oak vat with indigenous yeasts and matured in 1,200-liter oak foudre for 14 to 16 months. This is always a mysterious wine, completely different and changing—"tridimensional," as Telmo...

Bid on this 8-bottle lot of 2012 Descendientes de Jose Palacios "Petalos" Bierzo (93RP, 91ST, 91W&S, 90WE, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of my sure values, I thought the 2011 Pétalos could not be surpassed so I opened a bottle next to the 2012 Pétalos del Bierzo, and I was wrong. The 2012 is extremely aromatic, with flowery aromas of violets, lilies and roses, really fresh, with notes of red fruit (acid strawberries), no traces of oak whatsoever, subtle, really Burgundian with hints of blood oranges, denoting freshness. The medium-bodied palate is extremely balanced, elegant, round, with volume and incredible freshness. For a young, entry-level wine there is incredible complexity, developing notes of fennel and aromatic herbs, all of it very harmonious and subtle. For Ricardo there is a change to a cycle of Atlantic vintages (2012, 2013 and 2014 so far), but 2012 was a special vintage, shorter and dried, but at the same time fresh. This could very well be the best Pétalos

97 points James Suckling: "Maybe the idea of a Gran Reserva rosé seems crazy, but this great wine happens to be a rosé. The whole range of dried fruit, plus a lemon-zest freshness which lights up the full and complex body. Take your time to unravel this wine’s mystery, if you can find one of the rare bottles." (08/2018) 96 points Decanter: "This is light orange pink in colour with a smooth and silky texture and long length. It has cherry and raspberry fruit alongside a well-integrated nutty oak character leading to a dry salty finish. A seamless blend ...

Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 2015 Bodegas Tridente Tempranillo Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León (91JS). James Suckling: "Massive black fruit, and correspondingly large and seriously chewy, dry tannins. This wine needs some substantial food to cope with the latter. Love the finish." (07/2017)
Starting Bid: $120.00

Bid on this bottle of 2010 Dominio de Pingus "Amelia" Ribera Del Duero ((92-94RP), 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Amelia is a tiny production of just 25 cases from a parcel cultivated with what Peter Sisseck describes as -the most perfect clone- that was blended into Flor de Pingus until 2003. It is raised for eighteen months in used wood. It has a seductive bouquet with blackberry, dark plum, liquorice and creme de cassis that is beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a lactic, sensual entry with hints of dark chocolate and spice. It has very fine tannins but firm backbone on the focused, citric tinged finish that has great elegance and vivacity. This is an excellent, luscious wine whose primal opulence is difficult to resist." (08/2012)
