Produced from primarily estate-grown Verdejo, just outside the village of La Seca ("the cradle of Verdejo" as the sign states!), this is a wonderful expression of Rueda. Verdejo, in its refreshing, cleanly fruited profile and tropical leanings, mimics Sauvignon Blanc, without any overt green notes or the occasional blowsiness of some New World examples. 2016 Bodegas Angel Rodriguez "Martinsancho" Verdejo Rueda

Angel Rodriguez Leal produces what is hands down the best wine in Rueda: Martinsancho. A family-owned bodega since 1784, holding some of the best real estate in the D.O., their land boasts Verdejo vines which average 40 years of age and stand in a bed of rounded river stones.
