2018 Eric Cottat Sancerre
Top Pick!
We were first introduced to the wines of Eric Cottat a few years back. He was brought to our attention by one of our long-time friends and winemakers in Sancerre, and we brought in a small amount, as that was all we were allowed to take at the time. Eric only produces a small amount of wines each vintage for family, friends, and close customers, and then sells the rest of his fruit off to other eager producers in the region. This Sancerre blanc is always invigorating and fresh, with lemony citrus aromas and flavors accented by delicate white flowers. The...

2018 TWR (Te Whare Ra) Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough
Top Pick!
95 points Bob Campbell: "A blend of wines from the Upper Awatere Valley and the TWR home block in the Wairau Valley. Quite a tight, yet textural, sauvignon blanc with gooseberry, lime zest, lemongrass and a seasoning of tropical fruit and passionfruit character. An appealing wine." (01/2019) 94 points Sam Kim: "This is a gorgeous rendition of the variety; offering vibrancy as well as complexity within a delightful textural mouthfeel. Fragrant aromas of Gala apple, feijoa, nectarine and lemon peel with a hint of oatmeal on the nose. The palate is concen...

The family-owned domaine dates back to 1804, located in a tiny Loire village named St-Julien-de Chédon. Since 2009, Laurent Benoist has been at the helm, focusing his efforts on sustainable farming and pure, terroir-driven wines. As a region, Touraine has the flexibility to plant a wide range of varieties, so it’s different from the more formal areas such as Vouvray, which only allows Chenin Blanc, or Sancerre, which only allows Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. In Touraine, they can grow Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, P...

One of K&L's very finest buys from France, this is a reserve cuvée made from Millet's chalkiest limestone soils. There is a long maceration at very low temperatures to extract as much flavor and character as possible. The resulting wine is intensely charged with stone fruit, minerality, and bright citrus notes. The wines of this family domaine have been a staple here at K&L since the 1994 vintage when Franck and Betty Millet drove a long way (to Beaune!) on Easter Sunday to meet Clyde and crew to present the wines. We love these wines for their freshness...

90 points Decanter: "Attractive floral nose with gooseberry and orchard fruit flavours. Excellent ripeness on the palate with the CO2 spritz enhancing the citrusy freshness. Elegant finish. (2019 DWWA)" (05/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "This is a crisply textured wine, with attractive acidity and a strong mineral edge. Fresh citrus flavors and acidity are comfortably balanced by the taut steely edge. (RV)" (10/2019) K&L Notes: This is a family domaine that has been run by third-generation winemaker Aurore Dezat since 2011. She farms 9 hectares of Sauvignon...

2018 Domaine Cherrier Père & Fils Sancerre
Top Pick!
Domaine Cherrier was founded in 1930, and since then four generations of the family have run the estate. The estate has limestone and calcareous clay soils that wonderfully influence the character of the grapes grown there. The Sancerre is consistently delicious, with citrus, chalky mineral and light floral notes. Its dry finish complements seafood and cheese beautifully. K&L French Regional buyer Keith Mabry says: "The Cherrier to me is always one of the biggest crowd-pleasing Sancerres/Sauvignon Blancs from anywhere in the world."

2018 Domaine Tabordet "Le Champs des Vignes" Pouilly Fumé
Top Pick!
Nestled in the village of Verdigny, Domain Tabordet is run by brothers Yvon and Pascal Tabordet, who took the reins back in 1981. When the two brothers first took over the estate it consisted of three hectares (7.4 acres) in Sancerre. By 1988 they had added another 4.5 hectares of Sancerre and also added 12 hectares (29.7 acres) in neighboring Pouilly Fumé, just across the Loire River. Wine growing in Pouilly Fumé dates back to the fifth century when the Romans dominated the area. In 1937, it became an official Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) of Fr...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Organic Sauvignon Blanc features distinctive struck-flint aromas upon opening, along with notes of tomato leaf, pineapple and grapefruit. It's a plump, medium-bodied example of the genre, with ample concentration of citrusy fruit, hints of herbaceousness and a clean, refreshing finish. (JC)" (02/2018) Wine Spectator: "Shows a floral, honeysuckle accent to the fleshy melon and pear flavors, featuring plenty of spice and candied ginger accents on the finish, with firm, juicy acidity. (MW)" (07/2018) K&L Notes: *...

2018 Les Roches Sauvignon Touraine
Back In Stock!
This Sauvignon Blanc from Touraine displays an intense, classic nose of cut grass, pepper and, believe it or not, pineapples and lemons, with plenty of minerality. Very crisp and refreshing, like a cross between a classic Touraine and a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, at an astonishingly low price! Perfect with seafood. Grown in an area located between the Loire River and the Cher River and sandwiched between the towns of Tours and Blois, the wine shows the classic characteristics of the rich clay soils that are fortified with flint and limestone. Very brig...

2018 Kalinda Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc
Top Pick!
The Kalinda label is an ongoing effort here at K&L to bring in great wines at below market prices. Each year we work with top producers throughout California to make and bottle these wines for our own label. We are asked not to disclose the name of the wineries with whom we work, because the normal retail price is usually about double what K&L sells the wine for.

95 points Bob Campbell: "Bright, fresh and concentrated sauvignon blanc with punchy regional and varietal flavours including capsicum, nettle, gooseberry, melon and subtle passionfruit. A deliciously accessible wine that delivers everything I expect from Marlborough Sauvignon … and more." (05/2018) K&L Notes: No. 4 on Bob Campbell's list of Top Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs of 2018! A break-through vintage for winemaker Simon Waghorn. The Astrolabe Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is made from grapes grown across three Marlborough sub-regions: the Wairau Va...

Sancerre at half the price! The Fournier family, with roots as deep as their vines in this region, seem to be related to just about everyone in some way. They've been farming and producing wines in Sancerre for generations. We are pleased to have been offered this wine, yet again, at such a great price. Soft, subtle mineral notes are wrapped up in aromatics of melon and citrus. Clean, bright and refreshing, this is a perfect little Sauvignon Blanc. Tropical fruit, citrus and spice aromas and flavors, with vibrant acidity and minerality. Perfect for goat ...

Domaine Begude is a small, family-owned property located high in the foothills of the Pyrenees in the Limoux region of the Languedoc. The long, cool growing season lends itself perfectly to the production of crisp and delicate wines, and this Sauvignon Blanc is no exception. More in the style of a Loire Valley Sancerre, with its fine, mineral-laden nose and fresh citrus fruits on the palate, this is the perfect accompaniment to grilled fish, oysters or just by itself. Make this one your house white! Organically certified by Ecocert.

2016 DeLille "Chaleur Blanc" Columbia Valley White Bordeaux Blend
Top Pick!
94 points Vinous: "Bright, light yellow-gold. Multidimensional nose melds aromas of stone fruits, pineapple and pear with notes of savory spices, honey and lemon grass and a Riesling-like piney quality. Compellingly fine-grained, concentrated and harmonious from the start, with a suggestion of figgy sweetness (the wine is technically bone-dry) perfectly countered by strong acidity. Finishes tactile and very long, with a suggestion of eucalyptus. Most recent vintages of this consistently superb wine have been considerably tighter early on, but this is a k...

Domaine Côtes Blanches was established in the 1930s by Bernard and Pierre Millet. In 1980, it was time for the second generation to take the reins, so François and Monique expanded the estate to 21 hectares of vines (15 Sauvignon, 6 Pinot Noir). After returning from his studies in Beaune five years ago, Nicolas (son of François and Monique) joined the family-run estate and brought a new energized passion. The family is dedicated to the land and the environment by which they are surrounded. All farming is done organically, harvest dates are dictated by na...

97 points Decanter: "Our sole Sauvignon Blanc representative in the Best In Show class this year comes from Marlborough rather than any of the key Northern Hemisphere sites, but our judges loved the way in which this was not necessarily obvious from its profile. With its fresh, sappy, crushed-spring-leaf aromas and limpid, long, vinous yet tender profile in the mouth, this is simply great Sauvignon from an outstanding site rather than one of the overt or flamboyant Marlborough Sauvignons drinkers have become used to (and sometimes bored by). There's no s...

93 points Wine Spectator: "**#31 in Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2019** A complex note of dried honeysuckle and a whiff of smoke add intrigue and depth to the succulent peach, melon, and mango flavors." K&L Notes: **#31 in Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2019** Quivira, in many respects, is that quiet winery that consistently makes truly elegant, pure wines; focused primarily on the stewardship of their land while ignoring what's in vogue. They have a long history of utilizing holistic farming techniques based on Biodynamic principles; cultivating bi...

2017 Aurore Dezat "Les Chasseignes" Sancerre
Top Pick!
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "With a third of the wine aged in barrel, this is a broad, spicy Sauvignon Blanc. The acidity has been muted by the wine's extra richness. Melon and creamed-apple flavors balance the spiciness and final structure. (RV)" (10/2019) K&L Notes: A family domaine that has been run by third-generation winemaker Aurore Dezat since 2011. Dezat farms nine hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir in the commune of Sury-en-Vaux on limestone, pebble and flint soils.

94 points James Suckling: "This has all the complexity seen in great white wines with plenty of savory influence. Grilled nuts adorn biscuity and flinty lemon and grapefruit pith. The palate has punchy dried-peach and lemon flavors, as well as an appealing, very succulent and carefully layered texture. " (10/2018) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Just gorgeous, this is vibrant, fragrant and generous, with honeysuckle, Key lime, lemongrass and fresh ginger notes that mingle with grapefruit and pear flavors. Impressive for the intensity, showing a smooth body,...

From the producer: "Our vineyards were harvested early to capture optimum flavour ripeness while ensuring that less natural sugar was produced to convert into alcohol in this lower alcohol wine. The fruit from each vineyard was kept separate throughout the winemaking process to ensure integrity of each site and to provide the greatest possible number of blending combinations. The fruit was gently pressed, cold settled, racked and cool fermented with selected yeast strains to enhance the unique aromatics and flavours. After fermentation, the wines remaine...

90 points James Suckling: "Super bright and vibrant with a fresh array of tangy lemons and limes. Has some tangy, crunchy resolve. Drink now. Screw cap." (10/2019) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A notable value, the 2018 Sauvignon Blanc features perfumed leafiness on the nose but plenty of ripe nectarine fruit on the palate. It's light to medium-bodied, plump and easy to drink, with a barely perceptible four grams per liter of sugar. (JC)" (03/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "This vintage of Giesen's Sauvignon is a traditional balanced expression, but it doe...

92 points Bob Campbell: "Quite a serious sauvignon with good weight and a pleasingly rich texture. A hint of tropical fruit with melon, nectarine and nutty yeast lees flavours. Dry but not austere. A good food wine. 11/5/2019" (05/2019) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Offers an appealing core of intense, lush flavors of ripe melon and peach, with details of white pepper, honeysuckle and ruby grapefruit lingering on the finish. Impressive for the intensity and focus. Drink now. - MW" (09/2019) K&L Notes: #60 on Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2019 Found...

Another of the fine wines of Dominique Robin, Le Blanc de la Graside is sourced from a vineyard three miles south of Libourne that is planted with 60-year-old Sauvignon Blanc vines. Grapes are harvested at full maturity and aged in casks to round out the wine's generous profile, while it retains a mineral-driven finish. Superb buy.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Cadaretta has turned out a fine 2015 Columbia Valley Sauvignon Blanc (there’s roughly 11% Semillon in the blend), and it's clean, crisp and steely, with notes of citrus, crushed rock and green herbs. It drops off on the finish but is a refreshing, well-made effort that's going to shine with seafood or tapas. (JD)" (06/2017) Wine Enthusiast: "Sauvignon Blanc makes up a full 89% of this blend. It offers light aromas of melon, grass, tropical fruit and citrus that are followed by tart zingy flavors, with the concentration s...

Frog's Leap is one of Napa Valley's original leaders in organic farming, also dry farming their Rutherford estate. Winery's note: "Dubbed a 'Prince of a Wine' by the New York Times in 1982, this wine set a course that hasn't veered much from its original ideals. Today this wine is still made from 100 percent Sauvignon Blanc grapes and done so in such a way that the alcohol is kept low, the acidity high, and the flavors crisp and refreshing. In fact, the only changes we've made along the way have been in pursuit of a noble quest: to make a Sauvignon Blanc...

90 points Vinous: "The 2016 Sauvignon Blanc McGinley Vineyard is quite soft in this vintage, with a lovely interplay between varietal fruit character and the soft curves that make the wine such a delight to taste now. Candied lemon, orchard fruit, white flower, chamomile and almond all grace a very pretty and expressive wine that emphasizes fruit over the green/grassy notes that are typical of many Sauvignon Blancs. Decanter: "This is a lovely, ripe-fruited wine from the Dubourdieu home estate, now vinified by his son Jean-Jacques. Touches of raspberry leaf make it a little more concentrated than some - this is one to enjoy young. The Doisy Daene, by the way, is the wine to go for in 2018 for Dubourdieu fans! (JA)" (03/2019) Jancis Robinson: "Lively herbal citrus, very herbal and Sauvignon-esque. And it is 100% Sauvignon Blanc, I discover/remember. The Millet Sancerre has been a favorite here at K&L for a long time. Grown in limestone-clay soil, the wine reflects the terroir wonderfully. 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Sauvignon Blanc La Luce is a little closed and reduced to begin, opening out to notions of yellow apples, fresh pears and white peaches with hints of flint and dried herbs. The palate has electric intensity with zingy apple and pear flavors lifted with a wicked backbone of freshness, finishing long and mineral laced. A partnership between Rodolphe and Ludivine Marteau, the fourth generation to make wine from their family's estate. Of their 29 acres, 20 are devoted to Sauvignon Blanc. With vines averaging 20 years and very detail-oriented farming, they harvest the best quality fruit possible. Tasting notes from the importer: "The nose offers an intense 'fruit basket' dominated by citrus scents with a note of blackcurrant bud. In the mouth, all is suppleness and elegance. The final spicy note emphasizes the freshness and the generous length of this Touraine Sauvignon."

Sauvignon Blanc is nothing new to the Banshee portfolio, as the lucky trio who scored a surprise success with their initial, 8-barrel lot of coveted Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (that they purchased by the gallon and turned around in five weeks flat) launched a Sauvignon Blanc label the very next year. From owner/winemaker Kent Humphrey: "One of those “hyper-enthusiastic” wine geeks since college (writing volumes of tasting notes and spending all of my disposable income on wine), it wasn’t until age 33 that I worked my first harvest. I had a single goal in mind: to someday hold up a bottle of world-class wine and say to myself, “I made this.” Today I’m fascinated to discover that my goal is never-ending … the pursuit of making fine wine goes on forever. Each vintage brings new challenges and triumphs, more discoveries and deeper desires. Palates evolve...
