2018 Domaine Tabordet "Le Champs des Vignes" Pouilly-Fumé
Top Pick!
Nestled in the village of Verdigny, Domain Tabordet is run by brothers Yvon and Pascal Tabordet, who took the reins back in 1981. When the two brothers first took over the estate it consisted of three hectares (7.4 acres) in Sancerre. By 1988 they had added another 4.5 hectares of Sancerre and also added 12 hectares (29.7 acres) in neighboring Pouilly-Fumé, just across the Loire River. Wine growing in Pouilly-Fumé dates back to the fifth century when the Romans dominated the area. In 1937, it became an official Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) of Fr...

From one of Clyde's old friends, and from certified organic vineyards in the Redwood Valley AVA of Mendocino County, the Chance Creek Sauvignon Blanc is an intense expression of terroir. Grown in the rocky benchlands of Mendocino County with southwest exposure, this bottling incorporates 4% Viognier to endow the wine with an added spicy allure. It was aged in 2% new French oak before bottling. The Chance Creek vineyard site, originally planted to Palomino grapes used in the production of California sherry, was purchased by Lou Bock in 1979. He soon re...

Neal Martin writes: "Vina Koyle is one of best-known wineries in Colchagua Valley. It was founded in 2006 by Alfonso Undurraga Mackenna along with his three sons when they acquired 1,100 hectares in Los Lingues, located in the foothills of the Andes."

94 points Decanter: "This outstanding white comes from vines on a plateau of limestone and red clay soils. The pure and complex nose combines pear fruit with white flowers. The dense, fleshy yet lively palate has mineral-like characteristics with a long, minty-fresh, airy-textured finished. (YC)" (02/2019) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This beautifully rich wine offers both elegance and ripeness. A sense of maturity comes from the balance between biodynamically grown fruit and the green-fruit and herbal backdrop. The wine is ready to drink although it wi...

Joel B Payne writes: "After finishing his studies in Beaune 15 years ago, Stephane Riffault has slowly taken over the reins of the estate in Sury-en-Vaux that still bears his father's name. His brother Benoit never made it back to the Loire, but instead married and now runs Domaine Sauzet in Puligny-Montrachet, which perhaps helps explain the Burgundian approach to winemaking here. His father had no barrels in the cellar and made only one wine, a Sancerre. Stephane now makes five or more each vintage and most are fermented largely in smaller casks or bar...

92 points Decanter: "Sourced from a 1ha plot on a south-facing slope, on which the roots are in direct contact with the bedrock. There are smoky, flinty notes to the juicy white fruit, showing good concentration on the balanced palate. Should age well. (YC)" (02/2019) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This single-vineyard wine is packed with fruit along with an herbal, green asparagus flavor and strongly mineral character. Acidity lifts the fruit to another level of intensity, underlining a promising future. Drink from 2020. (RV)" (01/2020)

A quality Sauvignon Blanc at a very attractive price, this is one for people "in the know." It is not an obligatory Sauv Blanc bottling in just any Napa estate's portfolio of wines. Voss Vineyards specializes in Sauvignon Blanc and makes it exclusively. They also eschew a heirarchy of mulitiple bottlings of varying levels of quality. From a single, organically certified Yountville vineyard planted in 1978, there is one wine and this is it. Voss harvests the vineyard in the cool morning hours and allows 24 hours of skin contact after crush to enhance flav...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The blend for the 2010 Sauvignon Blanc L’Apres Midi (1,600 cases produced) was 86% Sauvignon Blanc and 14% Semillon. This beautiful dry white offers copious notes of figs, honeydew melons and lemon grass along with beautiful richness. It actually needs 1-2 more years in the bottle to express its full personality. It should keep for 3-4 years thereafter. (RP)" (12/2013) 94 points Vinous: "The 2010 Sauvignon Blanc L'Après-Midi is gorgeous. White peaches, flowers, spices, mint and pistachio are some of the notes...

*Certified Demeter Biodynamic* From the winery: "Ehlers Estate continues a proud tradition of farming with experienced vineyard and cellar teams that share a non-interventionist winemaking philosophy firmly rooted in the belief that terroir defines a wine, but passion, patience and hard work are needed to ensure that it is fully expressed in the bottle. Our organic vineyard practices leave a minimal footprint on the land and give us maximum flavor in the grapes. Taking advantage of the robust Estate ecosystem and carefully-chosen rootstocks, our vineya...
