2000 de Viaud, Lalande-de-Pomerol
Top Pick!
Known for their practice of holding back vintages to maturity, this small but high-quality Lalande-de-Pomerol producer crafts some best-in-class wines that are often tough to find but remarkably rewarding. De Viaud remains a family-run property of the Bielle family, and is a great reference-point for classic claret in the modern era.

92 points Wine Spectator: "Young and rambunctious, intense and concentrated, with a mix of wild berry, currant, smoke, roasted meat, charred oak and ripe currant fruit, supported by firm tannins. Finishes with lead pencil and fresh earth nuances. Needs time. Best from 2005 through 2014. 215 cases made." (10/2003) K&L Notes: Information about the Elevation 1147 from the Winery: "Every year we have the opportunity to take the best of the best grapes and let them stand by themselves, we call this Elevation 1147. Elevation 1147 is always 100% Cabernet Sauv...

Joël Taluau is a fabulous grower in St. Nicolas de Bourgueil known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire, unmarred by the intrusion of oak--which he hasn't used in production since 1986. He was also the first producer in the appellation to begin domaine bottling. The Vieilles Vignes, from a single plot of Cabernet Franc planted in 1934, is prized for its power, depth and grace. This flagship wine is meant to age, and the large format bottle will have helped to preserve freshness.

2000 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Back In Stock!
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is a medium-bodied, soft, attractive effort with plenty of herbaceousness along with notes of figs, plums, and red currants. Made in an up-front style, it begs to be drunk over the next 7-8 years. (RP)" (12/2003) Wine Spectator: "Smooth and polished, with a mix of mature cedar, currant and cherry-scented fruit, framed by a dash of smoky vanilla- and coconut-shaded oak, but finishing with a complex mix of fruit and oak. (JL)" (09/2004)
Price: $74.99

95 points Decanter: "...on first tasting this was delightfully sensual, seductively mellow and silkily replete with honey-toffee notes. At that stage the fruit was young and bursting with energy, with tones of spring flowers, gooseberries, papaya, redcurrants, pineapple and mango. (RJ)" 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a difficult vintage with destructive hailstorms and botrytis, the 2000 Cristal opens with an elegant and delicate bouquet with brioche, ripe apple, green olive and iodine aromas. Complex and very salty, with oyster and umami...

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the more upfront, downright sexy vintages for this cuvée, the 2000 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée de Mon Aieul has been firing on all cylinders for about a decade now. Giving up terrific notes of spice-box, cured meats, garrigue and mature Grenache fruit, this beauty is full-bodied, rich, concentrated and mouth filling, with serious amounts of fruit and texture. Like the '99, it's fully mature, but should hold nicely, although there's no need to delay gratification. In 2000, this incorporated a new parcel of sa...

2000 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac
Top Pick!
97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beginning to open magnificently, the still dense purple-colored 2000 reveals a blossoming bouquet of blackberries, cassis, graphite and pen ink. Full-bodied with velvety tannins that have resolved themselves beautifully over the last eleven years, this wine is still an adolescent, but it exhibits admirable purity, texture, mouthfeel and power combined with elegance. One of the all-time great examples of Lynch Bages, the 2000 is just beginning to drink well yet promises to last for another 20-25+ years. (RP)" (08/...

Winermaker's Notes: "The grape source is Demostene Ranch located in the Alexander Valley. The vineyard is the oldest Pinot Noir plantation in this region, and was established with a clone which produces small berries and low yields. The soil is a mixture of clay, silt and limestone. The vineyard is dry farmed and within one mile of the Russian River. Demostene Ranch traditionally produces intense wines which possess exceptional fruit definition, combined with a richly textured palate and great length of finish. The particular vineyard characteristics are...

2000 Smith-Haut-Lafitte, Passac-Leognan (1.5L)
Back In Stock!
95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One can’t say enough about this winery, which may still fly under the radar of most consumers. The fully mature 2000 displays gorgeous aromas of camphor, lead pencil shavings, unsmoked tobacco, plums, and black currants. With full body, a velvety texture, and beautiful weight, richness, and length, this superb wine should evolve, possibly improve for another 15 years. It’s a beauty! (RP)" (06/2010) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "The Cathiards have made a polished wine with generous fruit. It manages to combine a m...

2000 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Back In Stock!
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color in addition to a big, cocoa-scented nose, a sweet entry on the palate, medium body, it is a friendly, easy-to-drink effort. (RP)" (12/2003) Wine Spectator: "Starts out with creamy, milk chocolaty oak leading to a core of currant and plum-flavored fruit, offering richness, depth and complexity, finishing with a plush, concentrated aftertaste. Those who like well-oaked Cabernets will find this most appealing. (JL)" (09/2004) Stephen Tanzer's I...

Price: $54.99

93 points Wine Spectator: "Beautifully crafted, rich, vibrant and deftly balanced. Wonderful currant, blackberry, anise, sage, mineral and fresh earth offer layers of complexity and concentration. Finishes with just the right amount of tannins to give it a solid backbone. *Collectibles* (JL)" (10/2003) 89-91 points Vinous: "Saturated ruby. Pungent aromas of black cherry, coffee, bitter chocolate and violet. Dense, sweet and deep; this has broad, palate-coating fruit with the strength to support the big, cheek-coating tannins. Quite long on the aftertas...

2000 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (nicked label)
New!
"The 2000 Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has a wonderful varietal aroma layered with bright cherry fruit and just a whisper of mint that makes the wine distinctive. The true elegance shines in the finesse and delicate structure Cabernet. It is approachable and enjoyable now, but with the proper PH balance and backbone to ensure longevity. Oak aging: 3½ years (One year American oak tanks and 2½ years in French Limousin oak barrels)."

2000 Pape Clément, Pessac-Léognan
Back In Stock!
96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine stands out as a sensational effort just a few years away from full maturity. A 50/50 blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine displays loads of scorched earth and smoky barbecue scents along with blueberry, black raspberry and black currant. The wine is expansive, has a savory, broad palate and a full-bodied mouthfeel, yet possesses vivid purity and uplift. The tannins are still present, but they are sweet and well-integrated. This wine should hit full maturity in another year or two and last fo...

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "By the standards of the average 2000 red, this is still exceptionally young, indeed to the point of being somber and almost taciturn on the earth red and dark berry fruit nose that leads to backward if round medium full flavors that finish with pronounced firmness on the nicely long finale. This will require the better part of a decade to really be at its best." (11/2006)
Price: $189.99

Price: $49.99

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Juicy and tangy—even racy—this shows vibrant black cherry, cream and dried spice aromas and flavors. On the tongue the wine is medium-weight, with toast and anise accents on tart plum fruit. The tangy tannins on the close can use a year or two to resolve, but make it a fine food complement even now." (10/2002)
Price: $49.99

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good bright ruby-red. Complex nose combines raspberry, black cherry, violet, minerals, mocha and tobacco. Offers a distinctly claret-like texture, with supple flavors of raspberry, leather, minerals and game. Nicely consistent cabernet with a pleasing balance and a sweet middle for the vintage. Finishes with big but lush tannins and very good persistence. (ST)" (06/2003) K&L Notes: Ric Forman is one of the living legends of California winemaking. With a history at Sterling, Newton, Duckhorn, Abreu...

2000 Cakebread "Benchland Select" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Back In Stock!
90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Well-ripened and well-focused, the currant aromas of this solid Cabernet are decked out in rich, creamy oak and layered notes of cola and sweet loam. Supple and slightly fleshy in feel at entry, then filling the palate with flavors of ripe currants, caramel and a rich, loamy nuance, the wine transcends vintage concerns and is satisfying from front to back. It will improve for three to five years at the least and should hold up for a decade or more of rewarding drinking. *One Star*" (08/2004) Wine Enthusiast: "Shows what a...

89 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An opaque purple color is followed by dense aromas of black fruits intertwined with earth, camphor, and licorice characteristics. This medium to full-bodied, lusciously-styled port possesses excellent purity, a layered mouthfeel, and a long finish. (RP)" (10/2002) 89 points Wine Spectator: "Beautiful aromas of currants and plums with hints of earth. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a medium sweet finish. A refined and balanced young Port. Very pretty and better than when I tasted it from barrel." (05/2003) ...

Bid on this magnum of 2000 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien (1.5L) (94RP, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A very strong effort for Gruaud Larose, possibly eclipsed by what they have done in 2009, this is a pure, full-bodied Gruaud Larose with plenty of new saddle leather, cedar wood, black currants, cherries, licorice, and Provencal herbs. Spicy, earthy, full-bodied, and rich, it has hit its plateau of full maturity, where it should stay for another 20 or more years. (RP)" (06/2010)
Starting Bid: $290.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (97RP, 97WE, 96DC, 95VN, 95W&S, 94ST, 93JS, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet colored with a touch of brick, the 2000 Mouton Rothschild (composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot) boldly bursts from the glass with tantalizing Black Forest cake, dried mulberries, kirsch and blackcurrant pastilles notes plus wafts of iodine, incense, potpourri and cinnamon stick with a hint of cigar boxes. Medium to full-bodied, the palate packs in the muscular fruit, framed by firm, ripe, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with phenomenal length. This is an incredibly complex and multifaceted wine, and it's drinking deliciously now. This said, I can’t help but feel that it is holding something back, that it still has another layer of opulence and seduction to reveal in its tight-knit fruit and solid structure. I personally can’t wait to see how this beauty will continue to unfold over the years to come. (

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien (97JD, 97RP, 95WS, 93JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The plushest, most ostentatious and dramatic of all the Leovilles in 2000, this wine is already sumptuous, displaying some nuances in its huge nose of vanilla bean, black chocolate, jammy black cherries, cassis, and graphite in a flamboyant style. Opulent, savory, rich, and full-bodied, it is a head-turning, prodigious wine and a complete contrast to the extracted behemoth of Leoville Barton and the backward, classic Leoville Las Cases. The Poyferre’s low acidity, sweet tannin and an already gorgeous mouthfeel make it a wine to drink now as well as over the next 25 or more years. (RP)" (06/2010)
Starting Bid: $170.00

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (99RP, 98JD, 96ST, 96WE, 95JS, 94W&S, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted from an ex-château bottle in Bordeaux, I was not surprised to find the 2000 Château Haut-Brion flirting with perfection. The nose is simply breathtaking - quintessential Haut-Brion with ebullient red berry fruit, roasted herbs, gravel, terracotta tiles on a warm summer's day...it is simply wave after wave of intoxicating scents that could bring even the most stoic person to tears of joy. The palate displays heavenly balance, pitch-perfect acidity, perhaps spicier than previous bottles that I have tasted, and what depth and dimension in this outstanding wine. That hint of graphite on the finish is a cheeky nod to Pauillac, as if to thumb its nose at the First Growths, because alongside Château Latour, almost by stealth, the Haut-Brion is one of the greatest Bordeaux in this millennial year. (NM) 99+" (07/2016)

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Rauzan-Sègla, Margaux (94DC, 94VN, 90RP). Vinous: "The 2000 Rauzan-Ségla was the only vintage that I procured myself out in the market because of many fond memories. I am so glad I did fill in the gap because I feel it is a rather overlooked gem. It has a gorgeous bouquet, a little backward at first but then opening with black cherries, blueberry jam and hints of Provençal herbs, though none of the saddle leather I noticed back in 2010. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannins, nigh perfect acidity and a rich, quite grippy finish. The estate prefers the 2001 but I find this possesses more ambition. (NM)" (04/2019)
Starting Bid: $100.00

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2000 Conn Creek "Anthology" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (92WE). Wine Enthusiast: "Absolutely delicious, a fat, sumptuous wine that flatters the palate from beginning to end. Smells plush, brimming with currants and fancy oak trimmings, and turns lush and complex with fruit in the mouth. Best to drink it soon, in the fullness of youth." (06/2004)
Starting Bid: $180.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2000 Duhart-Milon, Pauillac (93WS, 90RP). Wine Spectator: "Very solid, this sports lots of fresh bay, pepper and rosemary notes amid a slightly chunky core of black currant and fig paste flavors. The finish picks up a prominent charcoal edge, but this is warm and inviting overall. Like a cabin hideaway, this is pleasantly rustic. (JM, Web-2016)"
Starting Bid: $270.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2000 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge, Pessac-Léognan (93JS, 93RP, 92VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Domaine de Chevalier has long been one of my favorite wines and now at 16 years of age, it continues to live up to expectations. It has a beautiful nose, so lively and vivacious, with black plum and blackberry, cedar and damp undergrowth scents, an undercurrent of tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with impressive definition, a fine thread of acidity, though still backward and intimating that there is "much more in the tank." (NM)" (07/2016)
Starting Bid: $225.00

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia "Ornellaia" Bolgheri Superiore (94WE, 93RP, 93ST, 92VN, 90WS). Wine Enthusiast: "Deep and delicious, with an earth-driven nose that conveys quality. Chunky plum pervades the chewy, dark palate, which offers a gorgeous mouthfeel and admirable depth. Only on the finish do you get a slight hint of oak. Overall it’s entirely solid and very likable, but as good as it is, it’s not quite on the level of the ’98 or ’99, which were amazing. *Cellar Selection* (MS)" (11/2003)
Starting Bid: $150.00

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2000 Lancaster Estate Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The deep ruby/purple-colored 2000 Proprietary Red Estate possesses aromas and flavors of black cherries, plums, currants, and a touch of new oak. The tannin is firmer and the finish more angular than in the 1999. (RP)" (08/2002)
Starting Bid: $150.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Dalla Valle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (93WS, 90RP, 90ST). Wine Spectator: "A wonderful display of fruit purity, with floral, plum, grapey currant and black cherry fruit that's well-focused and supported by firm tannins. Finishes with a push of blackberry and lead pencil. Rich and concentrated while remaining elegant and refined. (JL)" (11/2003)
Starting Bid: $140.00

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2000 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (95WS, 94RP, 91CG, 91W&S). Wine Spectator: "A mouthful, this wine gushes with pure, ripe Cabernet fruit. Tiers of currant, anise, blackberry, cherry and wild berry flavors are supported by pretty mocha-scented oak and plush, velvety tannins that firm up on the finish, giving it a solid backbone, yet the persistent flavors keep pushing through. (JL)" (10/2003)
Starting Bid: $600.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2000 Smith-Haut-Lafitte, Pessac-Léognan (95RP, 91WS, 90JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Taciturn on the nose at first, but coquettishly opening up with pure red-fruits, espresso, cedar and a touch of the old dusty antique bureau. Good definition. The palate is full-bodied, firm tannins, a touch of spice on the entry, a citric thread that counterbalanced the dense, ripe black fruit. This is nowhere near ready, but all the elements are here for a great wine, with notes of blackberry, cedar, graphite wild strawberry and freshly rolled tobacco. Persistent, grippy and utterly convincing. (NM)" (09/2010)
Starting Bid: $330.00

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Gemstone Yountville Bordeaux Blend (1.5L) (OWC - 91VN) in original wood. Vinous: "Good medium ruby. Highly aromatic nose combines redcurrant, black raspberry, graphite and mint. Sweet and vinous, with a supple middle and lovely clarity of flavor. Not a particularly large wine but shapely and consistent. Notes of leather and tobacco. Finishes with ripe, fine tannins. (ST)" (05/2003)
Starting Bid: $95.00

Bid on this 1.5 liter 2-bottle lot of 2000 Pavie-Macquin, St-Emilion (1.5L) (95RP, 94WS, 93VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A beautiful crushed rock/liqueur of minerality characterizes this inky/purple-hued St.-Emilion. Tannic, with lots of pure black raspberry and black cherry fruit intermixed with a notion of charcoal as well as the aforementioned rocky/powdered stone component, this long distance runner requires another 5-6 years of cellaring. (RP) 95+" (06/2010)
Starting Bid: $360.00

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Latour, Pauillac (100JS, 99VN, 99WS, 98RP, 98WE, 97ST). James Suckling: "Latour has made truly great wines in the past two decades—and this is one of the best. It has fabulous aromas of black truffles, currants, raspberry and dried flowers. Mind-blowing on the palate, it’s an emotional and soulful red." (04/2014)
