Founded in 1927 in the village of Jongieux, the Perret family has worked with many of the same seasoned growers for four generations. The wine is 100% Jacquere, a rather productive grape, that benefits from being planted on the depleted soils of the region which limit its growth. The wine is the pure essence of the region, with its crystaline focus and vibrant nose of yellow apples, lemongrass and crushed limestone.

In 1973, Daniel Dugois bought 2 hectares of vineyard and a house equipped with wine cellars in a village called Les Arsures, where he was born. He cultivated the vineyard and sold his production primarily to Henri Maire, one of the most prominent producers in Jura at that time. In 1982, Daniel made his first harvest in his own cellars and began to sell his wines to consumers. His first ever harvest earned him his first Gold Medal for his Chardonnay at the Jura Wine Contest. Daniel and his wife Monique have continued to work on the quality of their wines ...

Founded in 1927 in the village of Jongieux, the Perret family has worked with many of the same seasoned growers for four generations. Roussette de Savoie is not the easiest appellation to describe, as it encompasses vast parts of the region of Savoie. The most important thing to remember is that these are usually some of the best sites and they are 100% Altesse (aka Roussette). Altesse is a grape that seems to have more in common with Chenin Blanc rather than the local Jacquere. It is loaded with vibrant citrus notes and Mandarin orange qualities. It is ...

Spontaneous fermentation - an altogether preferable scenario to spontaneous combustion, and A LOT more fun to drink. This pink, semi-dry bubbly was made by spontaneous fermentation, otherwise known as méthode ancestrale. Grapes are picked by hand (the local Poulsard and Gamay grown on mountainous slopes in the shadow of the Alps) and fermented in chilled vats just reaching 5 or 6 degrees alcohol. The young and light wine is then bottled, along with its active yeast and considerable unfermented sugar. Under pressure of the cork, the wine continues to ferm...

2016 Les Matheny Poulsard Arbois Rouge
Back In Stock!
Accolytes of Jacques Puffeney, Emeric and Elise Foleat are both born and bred Jura. Emeric worked for Puffeney for six years before he and his wife began their own venture. These two are one of the most exciting producers to keep your eye on. Notes from the Importer: "Emeric’s lengthy tenure under Puffeney shows especially strongly in his treatment of the indigenous red grape varieties of the region. Whereas many growers here emphasize the thin-skinned, gentle nature of Poulsard and Trousseau, producing delicate, pale wines of wispy tannins and almost...

The Trosset brothers, Louis and Joseph, are part of a winemaking tradition that spans at least four generations of winegrowers before them. The domaine is located in Arbin, a couple of towns along the curve of the mountain slope from Chignin. Arbin is one of the 17 crus that exist in the Savoie, although all the wines go under the appellation Vin de Savoie. Located a bit further along the slopes than Chignin and just before Cruet, Arbin specializes in Mondeuse and it is the only grape the Trossets have planted. Mondeuse is not a high alcohol grape. Even ...

90-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The light red 2018 Côtes du Jura Poulsard, possibly the only one in Jura inside the Château Chalon appellation, was bottled ten days before I tasted it. The wine is harmonious and rich, from a ripe vintage, quite varietal, clean and precise, characterful but not funky. 2,500 bottles. (LG)" (06/2019)

Altesse is a white grape variety most famous for its role in the dry white wines from Savoie in far eastern France. It is one of the region's most highly valued grape varieties, as it makes full-bodied, concentrated wines with floral, nutty characters and good acidity. The best examples of Altesse wines come under the Roussette de Savoie and Roussette du Bugey appellations, Roussette being a common synonym for the variety.

From importer Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant: In the charming hamlet of La Combe (just south of Lons-le-Saulnier), Jean-François Ganevat is making wine with the inspired magic of an alchemist. After working both for his father and for the prestigious Domaine Jean-Marc Morey in Chassagne-Montrachet, Jean-François returned to the Jura in 1998 to take over the family domaine. With only eight-and-a-half hectares under vine, the family had seventeen different local varietals planted of both red and white grapes—an incredible amount of variation to consider for ho...
