91 points Whisky Advocate: "Subtly complex and nicely rounded. A bed of sweetness (caramel, vanilla) peppered with honey-kissed fruit, golden raisin, and a hint of marzipan. Pleasing oak grip and dried spice on the finish. A great value for such a high-quality bourbon. (JH, Spring 2017) " K&L Notes: Coming from the great master distiller Parker Beam, the Elijah Craig bourbon has to be one of the best-value bourbons on the market! Great balance of sweetness and spice. Also, at 94 proof, it has just the right amount of kick.

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This small-batch bourbon uses wheat in place of rye to create a soft, rounded character. The mild crème brulee aroma leads into sasparilla and creamy caramel flavors. At 92 proof, it’s a wonder that the alcohol feels so moderate, but it makes its presence known in the cinnamon-firework finish. Attractive bottle design with clever keyhole label. *Best Buy* (KN)" (07/2013) 90 points Whisky Advocate: "Lots of dried fruit, figs, and caramel lead off this bold but balanced bourbon, as dark berry fruits smack of sweet crème de cas...

From Richard Thomas: "McKenzie Pure Pot Still Whiskey has no additives, is not chill-filtered, and comes bottled at 40% abv. Although the label bears no aging statement, the constituent whiskeys in the blend are aged for a little over two years. The packaging is typical of the McKenzie line: a fat, pot still-shaped clear glass bottle with a label design reminiscent of an Old West saloon, and topped by a plastic, copper-colored stopper with an artificial cork. In the glass, the whiskey has clear pale gold coloring. Taking in the nose, I found it oddly cr...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "A good workhorse for all manner of cocktails, this bright amber Bourbon has a butterscotch aroma and oaky, relatively dry flavors that elongate into a rich caramel finish. *Best Buy* (KN)" (07/2013) Wine Spectator: "You'll get sweet cinnamon and rich corn pudding in the nose, with hints of meadow grass and bergamot. This one's warm and rich, nicely balanced by drying oak that tamps down the cinnamon from the nose. Well-balanced and sippable. (LB)" (02/2012) Whisky Advocate: "Effervescent, tingly mouthfeel, but the flavor b...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Look for bold vanilla aroma, a drying feel and loads of vanilla, brown sugar and even touches of butterscotch on the exceedingly long finish. It's surprisingly smooth for a 101-proof product, although the alcohol indeed makes its presence known. It stands up well to dilution, which blunts the alcohol edge and coaxes out more vanilla. *Best Buy* (KN)" (07/2015) K&L Notes: This is Wild Turkey's super-premium Bourbon, bottled at 101-proof. It has a soft nose for such a high proof Bourbon, with scents of dates and vanilla and or...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This mellow Bourbon is scented with vanilla and a hint of stone fruit. On the palate it's light and creamy, with nuanced notes of vanilla, almond and pecan, plus a gentle baking-spice finish. Sip or mix. *Best Buy* (KN)" (09/2016) K&L Notes: *World Whisky Award Winner: Best Bourbon 7 Years and Under (2010)* *Malt Advocate Distillery of the Year Award (2008)* Located in Lawrenceburg, this storied distillery has a long history dating back to 1818. It is run by Jim Rutledge, one of the best distillers working in the business ...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This workhorse Bourbon is a worthwhile addition for cocktails or straight-up sips. Look for bold caramel and spice, accented with fresh pear and ginger, finishing long. *Best Buy* (KN)" (09/2016) Wine Spectator: "Bulleit has a high rye content, and you can smell it coming through in fresh-milled grain and mint. Bright corn appears in the mouth, spiced by the rye and dried by barrel wood. There's a tenacious and sweet finish, which is the sweetest part of the experience. " (02/2012) Whisky Advocate: "Soft, elegant, and nice...

Whisky Advocate: "Some bourbons are balanced or complex; this is an all-around versatile pour with initial notes of lightly toasted oak, brown sugar, and butterscotch. A fun maltiness, concentrated caramel, and slight hints of cinnamon and watermelon Juicy Fruit hammer home its sipping potential, but its short to medium finish suggests that it’s more suited for cocktails. But hey, why not both? (FM, Fall 2017)" Wine Enthusiast: "The opening aroma is grainy and corn-like, with background touches of paraffin and walnut butter; aeration stimulates green pe...

The Nevada H&C Distilling Co., home of Smoke Wagon Bourbon, is one of the early wave craft distillers who nabbed a good contract from the excellent distillery in Lawrenceberg Indiana. 12 years later, these guys are sitting on some really top notch Straigh Bourbon, but no one seems to know anything about them. The distillery is in the heart of down town Las Vegas. They've released a range of excellent bourbons in various price points, but we're only now getting access to the very best juice.

Distiller's notes: "A historic recipe, acquired in 1940 by Owsley Brown I, Old Forester Rye features a mash bill of 65% Rye, 20% Malted Barley, and 15% Corn. Such a high proportion of barley allows for a fully natural fermentation process, forgoing the need for artificial enzymes commonly found in high rye mash bills. Additionally, a generous percentage of malt yields a unique floral character, balancing the sharp, brisk spice of the rye grain. Continuing our legacy of quality and consistency, Old Forester uses its own proprietary yeast strain, produces ...

Whisky Advocate: "The most aggressive of the bunch, with the wood playing a dominant role. Toffee, rummy molasses, roasted nuts, barrel char, leather, tobacco, and a wisp of smoke. (JH, Spring 2012) " Wine Enthusiast: "Despite a mild aroma, this whiskey offers bold caramel, vanilla and maple on the palate, with soft, creamy mouthfeel. Water opens up the aroma a little, disclosing a bit more vanilla. Sip or mix. (KN)" (04/2015)

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This luxurious Bourbon shows layered and dense flavors that run to the darker and drier side: cocoa, espresso, clove and allspice, all wrapped in beautiful caramel and butterscotch aromatics. At 100 proof, the alcohol deservedly feels intense, so best to temper this with a bit of branch-water or ice. *Top 50 Spirits 2013 & Best Buy* (KN)" (07/2013)

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "The base aroma is buttered corn-on-the-cob with aeration bringing additional scents of vanilla and cinnamon. The palate entry showcases sweet breakfast cereal grain; at midpalate the corn dominates so thoroughly that you know that this could only be one of the best straight bourbons from Kentucky. Ends spirity and heated. One of America's benchmark spirits. *Best Buy*" (12/2007) Whisky Advocate: "The original Maker’s Mark, tried and true, and the same since the 1950s. The nose is consistent with a flare on the floral, toffee...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This tawny Bourbon has a rich, spiced scent reminiscent of fruitcake. On the palate, look for caramel studded with dried cherry, orange peel and clove, finishing quite dry. A great profile for classic cocktails, and not too precious to mix. (KN)" (09/2014)

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Delicious but fiery, this nine-year-old small-batch Bourbon offers deep toffee aromatics and bold flavor. On the palate, look for relatively dry flavors: leather, cedar, dried orange peel. A splash of water softens the profile to bring out more vanilla, honey, even a touch of chocolate. (KN)" (09/2014) 90 points Whisky Advocate: "Knob was one of the first bourbons I had when I started taking whiskey seriously, and it’s still a kicker. No-nonsense, flint-hard nose: slickly-polished oak furniture, cinnamon stick, cracked rye, ...

90 points Whisky Advocate: "Initially it’s a nut-filled experience with toasted walnuts, pecans, and Brazil nuts, but an atypical spice appears that’s just lovely. Smoked hatch chiles mingle with rounded notes of cinnamon, créme brûlée, Bananas Foster, orange, canned peaches, caramel chew, and toffee. The pepper spices reappear for a grand finish. (FM, Summer 2018)" Wine Enthusiast: "The first couple of sniffings detect attractive, dry scents of leather and black pepper; aeration encourages sweeter, woodier aromas to emerge. The palate entry is sap- and...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aged for eight years--twice as long as regular Jim Beam--this Bourbon offers rich caramel aroma and flavor. Though it's a little fiery from the first sip, moderating the heat with water brings out a saline lick that makes for a salted caramel impression, fading to vanilla on the long finish. *Best Buy* (KN)" (07/2015)
