Lagavulin 16 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Elsewhere $100) (Elsewhere $100)
Top Pick!
90-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Soy sauce, olive brine, peat, honey, oloroso Sherry, brewer’s yeast, bread dough, barley malt and cigar smoke in the bouquet. The flavor that magically includes the innate intense peatiness of Islay malts and the masterly employment of oak barrels phase defines “classy Islay.” Concludes sweetly, without sacrificing the tangy, astringent peatiness that is inherent. Gorgeous. *Best Buy* " (06/2006) 94 points Whisky Advocate: "An old classic, but how do the newest bottlings fare? Rich, chewy, slightly oily texture. Deep peat...

Gauldrons means "Bay of Storms," and according to the bottler, this Scotch evokes "the ghosts of the long lost distilleries that once proudly proclaimed Campbeltown Scotland’s Whisky capital. The Gauldrons is a marriage of the finest Campbeltown Malts, bottled in very small batches at 46.2% ABV, and proudly bottled without coloring or chill-filtration. On the nose, detect a dry saltiness with sweet cereal and a late hint of gentle peat smoke. The palate is initially dry (beachy and maritime) warming to crunched sugar, barley, and oak. The warmingly spice...
Price: $59.99

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This copper-hued whiskey offers concentrated caramel, pecan pie and oak aromas. The palate is oaky and drying, not as luscious as the aroma suggests, showing vanilla and spice, plus hints of baked apple and cocoa. Adding water brings out more nutty flavor and a whiff of smoke. (KN)" (12/2017) Whisky Advocate: "The first 10 year old release containing whisky produced entirely by the new owners. I love the interplay here between the malt, sherry, and smoke, with all getting a chance to shine. A rich vanilla-tinged malty founda...

96-100 points Wine Enthusiast: "The nosing passes find layers of aromas of honey, heather, pine needle, thyme and salty single malt Scotch whisky. Entry is thick, gently sweet but balanced by a fierce herbal quality; midpalate focuses on the whisky while the various herbs, spices and honey make merry around their whisky core. One of the best liqueurs available." (05/2008) K&L Notes: The classic Scotch whisky liqueur. Make yourself a rusty nail - one of the easiest and most delicious cocktails on the planet. Pour .75oz of Drambuie into a glass of rocks,...

Glenmorangie "Allta" Private Edition Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Previously $100) (Previously $100)
Top Pick!
92 points Whisky Advocate: "This Private Edition expression was made using a strain of yeast found growing on local barley. It was aged for approximately 8 years in mostly second-fill and refill bourbon casks. Barley sugar and honey on the nose, followed by lily of the valley, lavender, and white pepper. Big gingery fruit notes on the palate; fresh-squeezed orange juice, vanilla, and black pepper. The finish is long and attractively earthy. *Editors' Choice* (GS, Summer 2019)" K&L Notes: The tenth expression in the always anticipated Private Edition rel...

94 points Whisky Advocate: "Launched in 2003, Uigeadail remains one of Ardbeg’s core offerings. Matured in a mix of sherry and bourbon barrels and bottled at cask strength. Peppery peat, warm tar, coffee grounds, machine oil, and black pepper on the nose. The palate is complex and rich, offering orange segments sprinkled with sea salt, dark chocolate, malt, and ever-present sweet peat. Nicely balanced. Lengthy in the finish, with smoky caramel. (GS, Fall 2018)" Wine Spectator: "Lots of peat sprinkled with Sherry, raisins, bread dough and maritime notes....

90-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "First sniffings boast big-hearted aromas of maple sugar and caramel; further aeration stimulates marine notes of seaweed and light brine, but deeper notes of chili pepper, black pepper, honey and vanilla top off the experience. Palate entry is honeyed and full; at midpalate the taste profile inches its way towards the smoke-tobacco-ash-tar side of the flavor scale, but is sweet. Concludes moderately oily and lightly salty. " (09/2005) 93 points Whisky Advocate: "A sophisticated and refined Talisker, if that’s not an oxymo...

92 points Whisky Advocate: "Classic ‘southern shores’ Islay from the onset: salty and medicinal on the nose, with smoked haddock, citrus fruits, and milk chocolate. The palate yields full-on hot peat, pipe tobacco, black coffee, licorice, and more chocolate. The finish is long and malty, with sweet smoke. Non-chill filtered. (GS, Fall 2018) " 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This Islay single malt has a straw hue and saline, seaweed and peat aromas underpinned by light vanilla and coconut. The palate is distinctly smoky, and has a mouthwatering saline qualit...

Ardbeg "Corryvreckan" Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Elsewhere $82) (Elsewhere $82)
Top Pick!
96 points Whisky Advocate: "Powerful, muscular, well-textured, and invigorating. Even within the realm of Ardbeg, this one stands out. The more aggressive notes of coal tar, damp kiln, anise, and smoked seaweed are supported by an array of fruit (black raspberry, black cherry, plum), dark chocolate, espresso, molasses, bacon fat, kalamata olive, and warming cinnamon on the finish. Quite stunning! (JH, Fall 2009)" K&L Notes: 2009 Scotch Whisky of the Year from the Malt Advocate. Named for Europe's largest whirlpool, this whisky is now available on a full...

Laphroaig 10 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
90-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "A veritable aromatic feast of maritime notes: seaweed, iodine, pine needle, matchstick and olive brine. The palate entry is full of mint, Sherry, pork rind, bacon fat, chimney soot and rancio tastes; by midpalate flavors of cocoa, coffee, pipe tobacco, chocolate-covered orange, marzipan and vanilla extract proliferate. Luscious and stupendously good. (PP)" (12/2007) 92 points Whisky Advocate: "This expression offers an uncompromising note of brine-laden peat and iodine, with charcoal and sweeter fruit notes also present. ...

Clan Denny Fettercairn 10 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Previously $45) (Previously $45)
Top Pick!
A single cask bottling of Fettercairn single malt, independently bottled by the ever-wonderful Douglas Laing. This expression was distilled in June 2007 and left to age in a refill hogshead for a whole decade, before being bottled in August 2017 as part of the Clan Denny range. 403 bottles were produced.
Price: Hidden

Clan Denny proudly holds specialist, rare and aged single malt and single grain Scotch whiskies. Bottled as the distiller intended, without coloring or chill filtration, affording the whisky a rich, oily quality. A Douglas Laing bottling of 10 year old single malt from the Craigellachie distillery, released as part of the Clan Denny series. Only 382 bottles were made. "Craigellachie" and "Clan Denny" sound kind of similar, so we hope that influenced the decision to release this whisky under this bottling range.

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Silky and downright succulent, this Scotch is made with two types of oak casks—as the DoubleWood name suggests—but it’s really all about the influence of the ex-Sherry cask. Aromas suggest golden raisins and dried apricots. The silky palate starts out moderately smoky, but glides into a richer, honeyed, nutty profile that finishes with cocoa and clove accents. (KN)" (12/2015) Whisky Advocate: "This ever-popular expression of Balvenie is matured for roughly 12 years in ex-bourbon casks and finished for 9 months in Spanish oak...

Johnnie Walker Blue Blended Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Previously $180) (Previously $180)
Top Pick!
97 points Whisky Advocate: "Magnificently powerful and intense. Caramels, dried peats, elegant cigar smoke, seeds scraped from vanilla beans, brand new pencils, peppercorn, coriander seeds, and star anise make for a deeply satisfying nosing experience. Silky caramels, bountiful fruits of ripe peach, stewed apple, orange pith, and pervasive smoke with elements of burnt tobacco. An abiding finish of smoke, dry spices, and banoffee pie sweetness. Close to perfection. *Editor's Choice* (JM, Spring 2018)" 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Featured as a blend of Jo...

Top Pick!

91 points Whisky Advocate: "Remarkably fresh and fruity on the opening nose, then lively pineapple, mango, and peaches. Ashy woodsmoke lurks behind the fruit. Finally, brine and black pepper. Vibrant orchard fruits on the palate, with barbecue flavors that become peatier and spicier in time. Aniseed, lemon, tobacco, and tangy oak in the lengthy finish. (GS, Fall 2019)" K&L Notes: This exceptional Port Askaig bottling is a cask strength single malt from a famous Islay distillery. At its advanced age it is exceptionally pretty, a touch floral, and it stil...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Sip or mix this single malt, aged in American and European ex-sherry barrels. Mellow honey and smooth, nutty flavors taper off into a long fade that shows vanilla, citrus, sweet spices and a hint of cocoa. (KN)" (12/2017) 90 points Whisky Advocate: "Two oaks are better than one in this single malt, which marries whiskies matured in sherry-seasoned casks of both American and European oak. The sherry imparts aromas of raisins, figs, hazelnuts, blanched almonds, candied orange peel, and leather. A backbone of vanilla sweetness ...

A tribute to the rebirth of our 200 year old distillery. Casks are hand selected to bring together this luscious Single Malt. Full bodied and fragrant with a rich core and lingering tail. 94 points Whisky Advocate: "An innovative offering made with a proportion of chocolate malt and matured in virgin American oak. Some of the component whiskies are between 35 and 40 years old. Milk chocolate, honey, orange marmalade, sultanas, and spice on the inviting nose. The palate is rich and full, with malt, dates, Jaffa oranges, dark chocolate, and coffee beans. Long and spicy in the drying finish. Glenmorangie at its very best. (GS, Spring 2019) " K&L Notes: Glenmorangie Signet is a unique innovation in whisky creation. An extraordinary marriage ...

This wonderful cask of Glen Keith was selected by our friend Doug McIvor for its exceptional balance and character. The distillery in Keith has been rare in modern times due to its closure from 2000 until 2013. While it served as a partner to neighboring Strathisla as one of the component malts in the Chivas Blend, it was also the site of much experimentation and some unusual production techniques. There they developed unique yeast strains and alternative ways of peating whisky--namely the use of extremely peaty water to ferment the mash. Keith has long ...

Whisky Advocate: "Gold color. Delicate aromas of tropical fruits (coconut, pineapple, mango), marshmallow and vanilla. Light in body, with delicate exotic flavors that deliver what the aroma promises. Soft, gentle, delicately creamy finish. (JH, Fall 2001)" K&L Notes: Compass Box's Hedonism is an unusual style of 100% blended-grain Scotch whisky. They only produce it once a year. This year's batch (code H29MMIX) comprises just 14 carefully selected, first-fill American oak casks. The whisky derives depth and complexity from 29-year-old Carsebridge, whil...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "The dense aroma, profound with honey and wafting with smoke, hints at what's to come. On the palate, sweet vanilla and baked apple give way to lots of mouthwatering spice on the finish—clove, cinnamon and nutmeg. (KN)" (12/2013) K&L Notes: This whisky just shocked the hell out of us when we retasted it recently. It's supple, textural, chewy, and full of sweet barley and pure Scotch whisky flavor. Imagine a combination of the Glenmorangie 18 and Oban 18, a whisky that is the perfect balance point between these two classic mal...

Whisky Advocate: "A blend of three different single malts. Its name derives from the fact that the whisky is aged in American oak bodies with French Oak heads (a cross of both oaks). There’s no age statement, but the whiskies are all older than ten years. This is a gentle, subtly complex, somewhat lithe, easy drinking whisky (and with less oak spice than its predecessor, The Spice Tree). People think whisky is an after-dinner drink, but I think this would make a great aperitif because of its delicate dry spice notes and light body. I’m picking up evenly-...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fruity and vegetal scent, in equal measures. Allowed to sit, it shows more caramel, even a light Sherry-ish character. Lots of lovely caramel flavor, with a baking spice finish. Soft, smooth and very sippable. Good value. (KN)" (12/2011) Whisky Advocate: "Similar to the Classic in its tropical fruit and honeyed vanilla, but with more depth, emerging nuts, and dried spice. Thicker too—with a slightly oily texture. A noticeable improvement from the Classic. This 12 year old is worth the few extra bucks. It’s the most rounded a...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Look for a crème brûlée fragrance and vanilla richness on the palate, all blanketed with smoke. It finishes long, dark and spicy, with clove, allspice and black pepper notes and a quick bite of alcohol warmth. (KN)" (12/2015) K&L Notes: Glen Garioch (pronounced "geery") is one of the oldest operating distilleries in Scotland. Since 1797 the distillery has been making malt in the northeasterly town of Oldmeldrum, near Aberdeen.

90 points Whisky Advocate: "A blend of four single malts for the latest incarnation, this has poached pear, sweet green apple, melon skins, light spices, barley sugar, and yet some crunchy barley notes too. Sweet vanilla fattens out to orange, peppercorn, honey, and barley sugar, with apple and herbal greenery appearing at the end. Hold for at least 30 seconds, then there’s spice at the swallow, and a waxy, mouth-coating finish of smooth-pulped fruits. (JM, Spring 2019) " K&L Notes: Compass Box's latest release is a celebration of Juveniles Bistrot a V...

The newest release from the exceptional and ultra rare Last Drop collection has complex history. It began its life in 1983 and was originally blended into 11 sherry butts where it was left to marry for 9 more years. At 21 Years part of the blend was bottled and the rest was transferred to for a third maturation. The rest of its 24 years were spent in American oak. The resulting whiskey is one of the most complex and powerful blends we've yet to come across. Ultra decadent and complex, but not sappy or overly sweet. Expect a nose of pungent wild honey, ro...

95 points Whisky Advocate: "Would you have gambled The Last Drop 1960 liquid in new sherry wood for four more years? The indulgent nose proffers maple syrup, buckwheat honey, roasted spices, blue grapes, pomegranate, raspberry compote, cilantro, pandan leaf, and beefsteak juices soaking into mushroom gills. The complex, lustrous mouthfeel is replete with a sheen of rich maltiness, molasses lashed by sherry before a dry, resinous finish. Water brings an oily nuttiness, then further drops produce a silky, clingy texture. Glorious. Miraculous. Victorious. (...
