2016 Rhys "Alesia" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir
Top Pick!
91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Alesia Pinot Noir Anderson Valley is unabashedly delicious, bursting with fragrant aromas of dried flowers, raspberries, wild plums and sweet forest floor. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, supple and satiny, with a juicy core of succulent, mouthwatering fruit that's framed by melting tannins. This bottling is already expressive, and I'd expect it to drink well for a decade, perhaps more. Note that this vintage hails entirely from Kevin Harvey's Bearwallow Vineyard … beginning with the 2016 vinta...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Saturated with dark, almost jammy fruit flavors, this is an extremely flavorful and nicely dry wine that also has great structure. An intensely dark color leads to blackberry and boysenberry aromas, distinctive blackberry and black-pepper flavors and a rich mouthfeel that is well-laced by fine-grained tannins. *Editors' Choice* (JG)" (03/2018) Wine Spectator: "Briary and brawny, with zesty wild berry, dusty anise and smoky cracked pepper flavors. Drink now through 2022. (TF)" (10/2018)

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. Spicy, heady aromas of candied raspberry and blood orange are complicated by suave Asian spice and pungent floral nuances. Broad, sappy red berry flavors pack a serious punch and are nicely firmed by refreshingly bitter herbal and peppery spice notes. Impressively concentrated yet lithe Pinot, finishing with superb clarity and persistence. (ST)" (05/2012) 92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "As it has been virtually every year since I have been reviewing the Anthill wines, this sports ...

94 points Vinous: "The 2015 Pinot Noir Bearwallow Vineyard, from Kevin Harvey's Anderson Valley vineyard, brings together captivating aromatics and layers of intense, red-toned fruit that are the signatures of this site and district in Anderson Valley. The interplay of those elements yields an intense, persistent Pinot Noir endowed with real class. Sweet red cherry, plum, mint, chalk and white flowers reappear on the striking, beautifully delineated finish. This is an impressive debut from Rivers-Marie. (AG)" (03/2017)

92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The Anderson Valley release is the 2016 Pinot Noir The Corner's, which has 20% stems and spent 10 months in 45% new French oak. It offers a savory, complex style in its dried red fruits, spice, leather, and underbrush aromas and flavors. Silky, polished and elegant on the palate, with ultra-fine tannin, drink it over the coming 7-8 years. " (06/2018) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2016 Pinot Noir The Corner’s springs from the glass with exuberant black cherry, black berries and wild blu...

Jeb Dunnuck: "Made from 100% Chardonnay, the 2016 Chardonnay Tous Ensemble is a juicy, clean, crisp expression of Chardonnay. From the Cloud Landing and Carneros Hills West vineyards, its classic bouquet of lemon curd, rose petal, salty minerality, and earth all give way to a medium-bodied, fresh, lively, Chablis look-alike that will drink nicely for 3-4 years." (06/2018) Vinous: "The 2016 Chardonnay Tous Ensemble is delicate and understated, with lovely orchard fruit and floral character. This is an attractive, entry-level Chardonnay from Copain. I wo...

From the winery: "Maryetta Wines is a boutique winery specialising in organic wines from Mendocino County. We make complex, balanced wines that are made in the vineyards. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, and sits for almost a year before it reaches bottling. Maryetta Pinot Noir is unfiltered, which allows the wine to retain many flavors and aromas that would normally be filtered out."

Wine Enthusiast: "This wine is charming, light bodied and lean, offering tempting red-cherry and forest-floor aromas and delicate sour-cherry flavors. It is relatively low in alcohol and brings a tangy mouthwatering texture." Winemaker's Notes: "In terms of sheer wildness few vineyards in the world compare to Alder Springs. Closer to Humboldt County than any vineyard in Mendocino, Stuart Bewley, following his own divining rod decided to plant in a wilderness no one had ever thought could grow grapes. Despite the constant issues of wild pigs, bears pushing over rows, and discovering that irrigation has been utilized by another cash-crop, Alder Springs has become one of the greatest vineyards in California. Spreading over 140 acres, with 85 separate blocks and a dizzying array ...

From the producer: "The fruit cold-soaked for 24-hours and was inoculated with yeast the next morning. Pumping over the Syrah was adjusted in duration and frequency, depending on taste and yeast activity (one to three times per day). The ferments were pressed off between two and four brix and then returned to tank. Once dry, the wine was racked off lees and inoculated for malolactic fermentation. MLF was done in tank and barrel, and upon completion, racked into barrel for 20 months."

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a delicious, no-nonsense wine that features pure fruit flavors, little obvious oak influence, good zingy acidity and excellent balance. Its strength is a slight sense of reserve that is refreshing and mouthwatering. (JG)" (06/2018) K&L Notes: The letters in FEL represent Florence Elsie Lede, founder Cliff Lede’s mother, a home winemaker who provided the early inspiration for Cliff’s love of wine. Growing up in Alberta, Canada, Cliff remembers the tulip as signifying the end of winter, bringing with it a freshness and...

About the producer: "Alan Baker and Serena Lourie founded Cartograph to pursue their passion for wine after enjoying successful careers in other fields — he in public radio and she in health care and venture capital. In 2008, Alan was working at the Crushpad custom-crush operation in San Francisco, making Pinot noir under his Cellar Rat Cellars label. Serena, on hiatus from her job in health care, came to Crushpad to learn the craft of winemaking and wound up working with Alan. During that first season making three Pinots together, they discovered that...
