The "Secret Islay" from the famous Cooper's Choice brand owned by the Vintage Malt Whisky Co. This is the company that made the Finlaggan brand a thing. It's likely a single vintage Lagavulin for a seemingly affordable price and there's no question that with the success of Diageo's own 8 year Laggie, these casks are in even more demand. The style is big bold smoke, citrus oil, brine and subtle herbs. Medium to full bodied, it definitely doesn't feel like Laphroaig or Ardbeg! Maybe there's a tiny chance it's Caol Ila, but the weight definitely makes us th...

Corner Creek 10 Year Old Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey (750ml) (Previously $60) (Previously $60)
Top Pick!
The enigmatic Corner Creek brand was bottled for years at a famous little family owned distillery in Bardstown. Recently the brand moved production to the Kentucky Artisan Distillery in Crestwood production and relaunched with this new 10 year old expression. The source is a secret, but there's no question that Corner Creek has the connections to find some seriously delicious bourbon and this new expression is leaps and bounds ahead of the previous no-age-stated Corner Creek. They've selected their choicest stocks for this product and bottled them withou...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "A honey hue and rich vanilla aroma mark this six-year-old rye whiskey. The palate nods to its 100% rye grain mash bill, opening with brisk cinnamon and allspice sparks that round into mellower vanilla and caramel midpalate, finishing long and spiced. Adding water brings more vanilla to the fore and adds a toasted grain note to the finish. (KN)" (09/2019) Whisky Advocate: "A lively nose with scents of orange peel, wild strawberries, pepper spice, and herbal tea. The palate presents a balanced offering of cream, orange Creamsi...

Glenlivet "First Fill" 12 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Elsewhere $52) (Elsewhere $52)
Top Pick!
The special release Glenlivet 12 Year Old First Fill is now available at the same price as the regular 12 year release from Glenlivet - a world standard in fine Single Malt. These two whiskies however are world's apart. The First Fill bottling blows the standnard 12 year issue out of the water. It's matured exclusively in first fill American oak barrels lending a much richer and more intense barrel profile when compared to flagship brother. The extra punch of vanilla, caramel and spice also serves to bring out more of the beautiful stone fruits and honey...

Whisky Advocate: "The only survivor from Old Pulteney’s core range shake-up of 2018, this has been matured in first and second-fill bourbon casks. The nose is delicate, with almonds, honey, and floral notes. Malt and toffee on the palate, with spicy oak and a hint of brine. The medium-length finish is nutty, with wood spices. (GS, Winter 2018)" K&L Notes: The Old Pulteney distillery is the most northerly distillery on the Scottish mainland, situated in the town of Wick. Your nose and palate discern complex combinations, robust yet delicate with a hint o...

92 points Whisky Advocate: "Classic ‘southern shores’ Islay from the onset: salty and medicinal on the nose, with smoked haddock, citrus fruits, and milk chocolate. The palate yields full-on hot peat, pipe tobacco, black coffee, licorice, and more chocolate. The finish is long and malty, with sweet smoke. Non-chill filtered. (GS, Fall 2018)" K&L Notes: Still holding our super low price on this classic Islay whisky, which was named World Whisky of the Year by Jim Murray in his 2008 edition of the Whisky Bible, making it easier for you, too, to fall in lo...

90-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "An earthy, dry, clean, and bean- and cane-like aroma with delicate scents of cocoa bean, vanilla bean, and brown sugar. The palate entry is bittersweet, concentrated and beany; at midpalate the flavor profile becomes sweeter and more like vanilla extract. The bean intensity reaches its bittersweet zenith in the high-flying aftertaste. Chic, racy, and delicious. *Superb, Highly Recommended*" (06/2006) K&L Notes: Distilled and bottled on the island paradise of Mauritius. The locally grown cane matures on volcanic soils, whi...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This spirit has a complex, rewarding array of flavors. The aroma is very smoky and spicy, evoking barbecue. But on the tongue, this vibrant-gold reposado layers vanilla and orange-peel flavors with a warm hint of toffee, and the smoke only comes through on the finish. Comes packaged in a striking, gift-worthy square-shouldered bottle with impressive heft. Aged nine months." (05/2012) K&L Notes: Frank Mendez called me one day and told me he'd like to come present his new family project: Gran Dovejo tequila. While Frank and hi...

A spectacular cherry liqueur, albeit with no sugar added! This handcrafted product comes from the farm of Patti and Dominique Azpeitia in Stockton, CA. With 1,200 acres of cherry and walnut trees and the desire to do something extraordinary with their produce, the Azpeitias set out to make a one-of-a-kind spirited beverage with no additives of any kind. They juice Bing cherries from their estate, ferment it on site, and transport the juice to be distilled into eau-de-vie by Stillwater in Petaluma. 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Inside the handsome, hefty bottle are spice-rack aromas. But the flavors are light and complex, interlacing honey with lime zest, mineral and faint white flowers that float off at the end. A top pick for pitchers of high-end margaritas. Hayman's London Dry Gin (750ml)

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Overall, this is a crisp and classic profile, scented with juniper. The palate is bracing and astringent, accented by bitter lemon and juniper, finishing lean and clean. Try it in a martini. *Best Buy* (KN)" (08/2019) K&L Notes: The pride of the Thames distillery, the standard Hayman's London Dry offers the punch and spice of a classic juniper-heavy gin with a clean finish and a nice price. The Tweeddale brand was created by the brothers John and Andrew Davidson in the mid-1800s. In 1895, Richard Day was hired as an office boy and began to learn the art of blending. Mr. Day took over the business in 1923 and continued to buy and blend whiskies until World War II caused a decline in market viability. Day sold his stocks and retired. In 2010, Alasdair Day inherited his great-grandfather's cellar book and the quest to recreate the Tweeddale whisky was born. The peated Grain of Truth is one of the most unusual and exciting examples on the marke...

This Western-style Gin shows the delicacy that is representative of the new juniper-free way of doing things. The main flavors are white pepper, citrus and flowers, and the spirit is remarkably mild and delicate, bordering on graceful elegance. Just bought by nopa restaurant in San Francisco to be their well gin behind the bar and a gold medal winner at the SF Spirits Competition.

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Lush and rich, this honeyed whisky is loaded with dense notes of creamy custard and tropical fruit, finishing with a flourish of baking spice. *Best Buy* (KN)" (12/2013) Whisky Advocate: "The world’s best-selling single malt. Isn’t that sufficient to give this dram some respect? It might be me, but it strikes me that ’Fiddich has more heft to it these days, with a sherried element giving the pear, apple, and light cereal of the distillery character a sweet, plump, sultana underpinning. This then adds chewiness to the palate,...

Another exemplary effort from Tempus Fugit. Nothing on the market comes close to the amazing and authentic flavors exhibited here. Even the high-end French producers settle for using mint extracts rather than fresh mint, but Tempus refuses to compromise. 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Look for a honey hue and super-fresh, bright orchard fruit aromas. The drying palate shows oak and vanilla, plus darker hints of espresso and clove. The finish is lifted by a pleasing hint of lemon cream pie. Sip or mix. *Best Buy* (KN)" (12/2019) Whisky Advocate: "As with the ‘Fiddich (reviewed in this issue), here’s a malt where an improved wood policy has brought a dram to life and added complexity. The Glenlivet has always been about lightness, but the trick is to have sufficient solid base to allow its flower to blossom...

Whisky Advocate: "Toasted coconut, custard cream biscuits, vanilla, freshly peeled banana skins, and ice cream wafers make this an enticing olfactory prospect. Vanilla, lemon, cream, and shortbread, this puffs out beautifully with a tug of pepper, always in balance, before relaxing into lemon meringue pie territory, with those sweet lemons persisting into the finish. At first we couldn't believe our mouths. We knew that Cut Spike single malt had just taken Double Gold honors at the 2014 San Francisco Spirits competition (the highest possible honor), so obviously other people thought it was good, too. But after tasting so many mediocre American attempts at single-malt whiskey, we had become accustomed to the idea that the Scottish style of distillation would never be recreated here at home. There would be spin-offs, and experimental grasps at greatness, but that supple, malty profile would simply be something we neede...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fruity and vegetal scent, in equal measures. Allowed to sit, it shows more caramel, even a light Sherry-ish character. Lots of lovely caramel flavor, with a baking spice finish. Soft, smooth and very sippable. Good value. (KN)" (12/2011) Whisky Advocate: "Similar to the Classic in its tropical fruit and honeyed vanilla, but with more depth, emerging nuts, and dried spice. Thicker too—with a slightly oily texture. A noticeable improvement from the Classic. This 12 year old is worth the few extra bucks. It’s the most rounded a...

Glengoyne distillery is about 15 miles north of Glasgow. Unlike most other single malts, Glengoyne has been preserving the essence of its flavor for decades by using air-dried barley rather than barley dried using harsh peat smoke. The result is a more subtle, complex whisky in which all of the delicate flavors are freely allowed to express themselves. Medium golden, clear and bright color, with aromas of soft, mellow oak and apple fruitiness. On the palate, vanilla, full oak and fruit with a very long finish.

Enemigo 89, a rare clear añejo, is known by the name of 'Cristalino' in Mexico. The Tequila is aged traditionally for over a year, resting in custom-made American Oak barrels which infuse and color the liquid. The now amber liquid is then filtered using carbon and cellulose which removes the color, leaving behind the more delicate, mineral and floral notes circling the elegant agave. Monastery brew houses and elixir distillers from different religious orders have been in existence all over Europe since the early Middle-Ages. The Cistercians, Benedictines, and Trappists were part of a network of religious houses which exchanged ideas and procedures but also kept a few secrets. Beyond being a place of worship and contemplation, Monastic gardens provided food and medicinal plants to monks and their guests. After careful reading of ancient monastic texts, Vicario crafted this maceration of over 15 aromatic herbs and spices and named it...

Whisky Advocate: "Oak-driven and tightly wound, with herbal licorice, beeswax, and dried peaches. There is a real outdoorsy quality here of forest floor, autumn leaves, and cut grass. Opuntia is a prickly pear spirit, made from the fruit of the Nopal cactus. Its flavor is as singular as tequila’s, an invigorating balance of fresh fruit and desert earth that is all its own. Over a ton of sun-ripened California fruit is fermented into wine and then distilled in each batch. This is a new spirit tradition that belongs to California.

This ambitious project from Moet Hennessy is an ode to terroir and modern tequila production. They begin with lowland fruit slow roasted in brick ovens. The intense mineral rich soils of the Tequila Valley are captured during the 4 day steaming process. This is then mingled with highland agave which have been roasted in autoclave to get a clean fresh expression of the already elegant high altitude plants. Fermentation is controlled using champagne and rum yeast. The result is a clean precise expression of the two main Tequila terroirs in one gorgeous bot...
