95 points Vinous: "The 2016 Petite Sirah Palisades Vineyard is going to need a number of years before it starts to drink well. Inky, plush and concentrated to the core, the Palisades has a lot to offer. But it is also a wine for readers who can be patient and who love Petite. (AG)" (12/2018) K&L Notes: Winery Notes: "Dark as night, aromatically explosive and intense from start to finish, the 2016 Mending Wall Petite Syrah is everything one would want and hope for from the variety and vintage. Known for a being long term cellar candidate, the silky and ...

96 points Vinous: "The 2018 Lytton Estate Petite Sirah is totally stunning. Bright, focused and powerful, the 2018 presents a breathtaking interplay of rich Petite fruit allied to a classic, old-school sense of structure. Dark blue/purplish fruit, leather, licorice, lavender, menthol and gravel are some of the many notes that infuse the 2018 with all those layers of flavor. The 2018 is a real stunner. (AG)" (09/2020) 92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "There are 4,600 cases of the 2018 Petite Sirah Lytton Estate. (There's 3% Zinfandel in the blend.) This dark-frui...

95 points Vinous: "The 2018 Petite Sirah Tierra Theopolis Vineyard is a deep, powerful wine. Black cherry, black plum, black pepper, menthol, licorice and chocolate infuse the Petite with tons of complexity and nuance. This is such a gorgeous, captivating expression of Petite. In a word: superb! (AG)" (04/2020) 91-93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Last of the barrel samples, the 2018 Petite Sirah is another exceedingly elegant, seamless wine from Gordon’s estate vineyard. Deep purple-hued with notes of blueberries, California bay leaf, violets, and bouquet garni...

92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Blended with 11% Syrah and brought up in 65% new oak, the 2017 Petite Sirah reveals a deep purple hue to go with a great nose of spiced plums, black raspberries, chocolate, and spring flowers. With full-bodied richness, good balance, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish, it's a pleasure-bent beauty to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years." (09/2020)

91 points Robert Parker: "Proprietors Bill and Joan Smith are two of the nicest, most modest vineyard/winery owners I have ever met. They have turned La Jota into one of the great names in California winedom. Along with Randy Dunn, Peter Michael, and Beringer, they are getting more out of Howell Mountain fruit than any other California producer. The Smiths modestly give considerable credit to Helen Turley, who consulted at La Jota in 1992 and 1993, for opening their eyes to the possibilities of producing great red wines from Howell Mountain without the a...

94 points James Suckling: "Crushed red and purple wildflowers, blueberries, cassis and leaves, all intermingled. This has a superbly juicy array of fresh and succulent dark plums and blackberries and delivers it all in effortlessly attractive mode. 94% petite sirah and 6% zinfandel. " (12/2019) 93 points Vinous: "The 2017 Petite Syrah Lytton Estate is another superb wine from Ridge's Lytton ranch. Inky dark fruit and expressive savory notes infuse this bombastic, heady Petite with tremendous nuance and surprising freshness. The 2017 is very young at th...

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Petite Sirah has a wickedly opaque blue/purple color and a tight but promising nose of acacia flowers, blueberries and blackberries. In the mouth, it is still grapey, tasting more like a barrel sample than a finished wine. It shows surprisingly sweet tannins for a Petite Sirah but is actually very civilized. This wine should become more drinkable in 5 years and last for 20 or more. (RP)" (12/2010) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby. Pungent aromas of briary blackberry...

2015 Fog Monster "Ambrosia Vineyard" El Dorado County Petite Sirah
New!
Fog Monster is the California based project of Andrea Mullineux who is internationally renowned for her eponymous "Mullineux" wines from the Swartland region of South Africa. Winemaker's Notes: "Grapes for the Fog Monster Petite Sirah were sourced from head trained vines at Ambrosia Vineyard, planted in yellow slate soils on midslopes of the El Dorado County in the Sierra Foothills. 50% destemmed into T-Bins with a blanket of dry ice and given one pigeage per day. No additions are made other than a minimal dose of sulfur. After 2 weeks on the skins, the...

Winemaker's Notes: "Despite being just one variety from one vineyard, this wine is made up of four separate fermentations of Petite Sirah from Contra Costa County. We experimented with varying amounts of whole cluster and a couple different levels of ripeness. This gave us a few tools that we could use to make an extra compelling Contra Costa Petite Sirah. This wine is light and layered and you can tell it is a different breed of Petite Sirah instantly. It is a soft, clear red in the glass and jumps out aromatically with juicy, red fruit, blackberries, a...

91 points James Suckling: "A rich, flavorful red with blackberries, walnuts and a hint of coffee bean. Full body. Polished, creamy tannins and a flavorful finish. " (11/2019) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a dark, brooding wine that's aged in Burgundian oak for 17 months. The blue and black fruit is lush and ample, built around a core of tannins and toasted oak that work well to accentuate without distraction. (VB)" (03/2020) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Petite Sirah Royal Punishers features notes of bake...

Bid on this bottle of 1988 Ridge "York Creek" Spring Mountain Petite Sirah. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Admirers of Ridge's Petite Sirah from York Creek will not be disappointed with the black-colored, concentrated, full-bodied 1988. While it does not possess the richness of the 1987, 1986, 1985, or 1984, it is a top notch effort from what is generally a mediocre vintage. The nose reluctantly offers up aromas of licorice, pepper, and black-raspberries. In the mouth, it is spicy, full-bodied, and moderately tannic. (RP)" (10/1993)

Winery notes: "York Creek Petite Sirah is from an amazing vineyard at the top of Spring Mountain planted in 1968. This Petite Sirah is almost black in color with elegant aromas. Our York Creek Petite Sirah is almost black in color with a perfumed nose and flavors of juicy wild berries, plums, and hints of licorice, incense, and forest floor.
