94 points Vinous: "The 2016 Petite Syrah Lytton Springs is another fabulous wine in this range. Dense and powerful, the 2016 is endowed with striking depth and tons of character. The Petite tannins are nicely tamed in a wine that offers superb quality and pedigree. Crème de cassis, graphite, lavender and mint are front and center. The 2016 remains quite primary though, so readers need to be patient. (AG) 94+" (08/2018) 93 points James Suckling: "This exuberant variety is tamed into a very composed and polished style with an array of ripe red plums, mul...

94 points James Suckling: "Crushed red and purple wildflowers, blueberries, cassis and leaves, all intermingled. This has a superbly juicy array of fresh and succulent dark plums and blackberries and delivers it all in effortlessly attractive mode. 94% petite sirah and 6% zinfandel. Drink or hold." (12/2019) 93 points Vinous: "The 2017 Petite Syrah Lytton Estate is another superb wine from Ridge's Lytton ranch. Inky dark fruit and expressive savory notes infuse this bombastic, heady Petite with tremendous nuance and surprising freshness. The 2017 is ve...

Andrew Jones learned to make wine from the ground up. He started as a vine nursery fieldman, planting and planning vineyards for wineries all over California. This gave him firsthand knowledge of nearly every vineyard on the Central Coast and a knack for finding "diamonds in the rough." Meanwhile, he was building friendships with some great California growers, who'd often offer him small lots of their best grapes on the side. From these beginnings he has built a catalog of delicious, affordable wines that hum with personality.

Odonata is the insect order encompassing dragonflies, and the name of a small winery in the Santa Lucia Highlands. Founder Denis Hoey launched the brand in 2004, but kept working at other wineries, including a few organic producers, before focusing on Odonata full time in 2014. The Machado Creek Vineyard is in the Santa Clara Valley and one of a few small vineyards that Hoey manages himself as the main grape supply for Odonata.

Dynamite Hill is Ridge's only Napa vineyard. Spring Mountain District is generally planted to Cabernet, and it's somewhat rare to see Petite Sirah grown there. This wine shows notes of blackberry, fennel, anise, with a hint of American oak. It's sexy and smooth, and will cellar for years.

2012 Ridge Vineyards "Lytton Estate" Dry Creek Valley Petite Sirah
Back In Stock!
93 points Vinous: "The 2012 Petite Sirah Lytton Estate is absolutely delicious. The addition of 10% Zinfandel has softened the typically burly Petit tannins, resulting in a wine that delivers tons of pure pleasure. Menthol, cloves and lavender wrap around a core of blue/purplish fruit in a gorgeous Petite with soft contours (for Petite) and terrific overall balance. " (07/2014)

2015 Aaron Paso Robles Petite Sirah
Back In Stock!
93 points Vinous: "Bright purple. Smoke-tinged cherry and blueberry compote aromas show excellent clarity, and a mocha element sneaks in as the wine stretches out. Sweet and pliant in the mouth, offering densely packed yet lively red and blue fruit and floral pastille flavors and a hint of five-spice powder. Shows impressive energy on the broad, chewy finish, which is firmed by building tannins and sharpened by a late jolt of juicy acidity. (JR)" (09/2018) 92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The inky colored 2015 Petite Sirah offers classic sweet black and plum fr...

Located in the Mendocino appellation of Yorkville Highlands, Halcón overlooks Anderson Valley and the Pacific beyond. It's one of the highest vineyards in California. The northerly location, ocean exposure, and altitude combine to produce a climate remarkably reminiscent to the Northern Rhône region of France.

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Blackberry, blueberries, tar, toasted spice, and chocolate notes all emerge from the 2016 Petite Sirah (there’s 12% Syrah in the blend) and it's ripe and polished on the palate, with full-bodied richness, silky tannins, and a great finish." (10/2019)

96 points Vinous: "The 2014 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard, from one of Napa Valley's historic, legacy sites, is utterly magnificent. Sweet, perfumed and silky on the palate, the 2014 possesses magnificent intensity and nuance. Red cherry jam, pomegranate, mint, spice and tobacco are some of the many notes that flesh out. Expressive floral and savory top notes add further shades of nuance. The Hayne is yet another exceptionally beautiful, vivid wine from Turley. (AG)" (12/2016) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard...

94 points Wine Spectator: "This is dark, bold and highly aromatic, yet retains a sense of restraint and grace. Sandalwood, white pepper, dried lavender and rosemary give in to ripe, juicy huckleberry and blueberry flavors. The tannins are both mouthfilling and plush. The finish just goes on and on. Drink now through 2030. (MW)" (12/2015) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is big boisterous wine from Elias Fernandez and Doug Shafer that has been given some nice time in bottle after four years in new French oak. It's a viscous, black-as-night kind of exper...

92 points Wine Spectator: "Wonderfully aromatic and full of personality, with fresh black and white pepper notes defining the zesty wild berry, mineral and savory flavors. Full-bodied, with tannins that are firm, gripping and taut. (MW)" (02/2009) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby. Highly aromatic nose delivers cassis, smoked meat, crushed rock and black pepper. Dense and sweet, combining an almost roasted Chateauneuf du Pape-like character with very good inner-palate energy. The black fruit flavors are perked up by ...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 95% Petite Sirah and 5% Syrah, the fabulous 2004 Petite Sirah possesses a black/purple color, great intensity, and enormous concentration and depth. This cuvee requires another 3-4 years of cellaring, and should keep for 20-25 years. (RP)" (12/2005) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby-red. Expressive nose offers kirsch, licorice and smoked meat. Large-scaled and wild, with slightly reduced flavors of black fruits and game. Not especially complex but highly concentrat...

2015 Ridge Vineyards "Lytton Estate" Dry Creek Valley Petite Sirah
Back In Stock!
94 points Vinous: "The 2015 Petite Sirah Lytton Estate is all class. There is plenty of depth to the inky blue and purplish Petite fruit, while the tannins are remarkably polished for a young Dry Creek Petite. Hints of lavender, tobacco, mint, smoke and crème de cassis develop in the glass, adding further shades of complexity. This clay-rich site seems to be especially well suited to Petite. Whole berry fermentation and gentle extractions yield and especially refined Petite. The 2015 is another drop-dead gorgeous wine from Ridge. (AG)" (08/2017) 92 poi...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2013 Petite Sirah has a fantastically opulent nose of star anise, cassia and cardamom with a core of blackberry preserves, plum pudding and cracked black pepper. Full-bodied, concentrated, rich and densely packed with black fruit preserves and exotic spices, it has a firm yet approachable frame and long, chewy finish. (LPB)" (06/2018) 92 points Vinous: "Retro's 2013 Petite Sirah (Napa Valley) is dark, powerful and intense. Thirty-two months in barrel have softened some of the con...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The opaque purple-hued 2012 Petite Sirah Landy Sweetwater Springs Vineyard boasts off-the-charts, surreal concentration, magnificent purity, phenomenally sweet, well-integrated tannin and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. This is killer, world-class Petite Sirah, and given this grape’s ability to resist oxidation for 20-30 years, readers can expect this 2012 to last that long. Moreover, its 15.5% natural alcohol will stabilize it as well. This is as good as Petite Sirah gets, and connoisseurs of this under...

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep, saturated ruby. Wild, superripe black fruit, meat and pepper aromas perked up by a violet topnote. Supersweet and lush but with plenty of tannic support for the powerful, slightly raisiny dark berry flavors. At once denser and sweeter than the Pepperland, but with no shortage of energy. The huge, dusty tannins coat the front teeth. A chewy, no-holds-barred Petite Sirah that's worth laying down. (ST)" (05/2009) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Intense coffee, spice and cola notes are thickly full-bo...

92 points Wine Spectator: "Brooding and distinctive, with dark blackberry, licorice and Chinese five-spice powder flavors that build speed toward big but polished tannins. (TF)" (09/2018) 91 points James Suckling: "A ripe and spicy array of mostly red-plum aromas here. This has a round and juicy palate with blackcurrant-pastille flavor to finish." (11/2018) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Brown sugar, red berry, lavender and a touch of heat mark this velvety thick and smoothly tannic wine, a hearty showcase of the variety. Complex and interwoven in oak, ...

91-93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby to the rim. Expressive, urgent aromas of crushed blackberry, gunflint, game, mint and cracked pepper, all lifted by a violet element. Concentrated flavors of blackberry and baker's chocolate, with a distinctly saline suggestion of extract. The intensity here suggests very low yields. The wine's huge tannins reach the molars. This has been a very successful cuvee since the exotic 2000 release." (05/2004)

Behrens & Hitchcock was still a new kid on the block when this wine was produced. Started by Les Behrens, Lisa Drinkward, with the help of Joe Bon and Lily Hitchcock, customers of Les and Lisa's at their restaurant Folie Douce in Arcata (Lisa cooked, Les curated the wine list). 91-93 points Robert Parker: "Readers looking for blockbuster-sized, bigger than life wines should check out the 1997 Petite Sirah. It boasts a thick, purple color, as well as a huge nose of minerals, Asian spices, smoke, and black fruits. Extremely powerful, full-bodied, and ripe,...

Of the 2013 Turley "Pesenti Vineyard" Paso Robles Petite Syrah,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2013 Petite Syrah Pesenti Vineyard is almost black/purple in color. This is another organic vineyard owned by Larry Turley, and the Petite Syrah was planted from cuttings from Napa’s Hayne Vineyard. The limestone soils here have produced what potentially could turn out to be one of the greatest Petite Syrahs ever made, rivaling some of the Ridge Petite Syrahs from the 1970s and 1980s. An absolutely amazing wine, but almost ferocious to taste at this point, the wine has concentration beyond belief. Inky black/purple, with stunning blueberry and floral notes mixed with blackberry and crushed rock give

Of the 2014 Turley "Rattlesnake Ridge" Howell Mountain Petite Syrah,Vinous writes: "A huge, explosive wine, the 2014 Petite Syrah Rattlesnake Ridge is also remarkably nuanced and vivid for such a big wine. Graphite, charcoal, game, smoke, tobacco and licorice wrap around a core of dark fruit. The tannins are huge and searing, so readers have to be prepared to be patient. Even so, the pedigree of this site perched high atop Howell Mountain comes through loud and clear. What a gorgeous wine this is. In a word: magnificent! (AG)" (12/2016)

Together they offer leathery black licorice and a smooth, yet grippy texture, balanced by decent acidity and length, with a twist of milk chocolate. (VB)" (07/2016)

Bid on this magnum of 2012 Chateau Montelena Petite Sirah Napa Valley (1.5L). Chateau Montelena earned its reputation on Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, but the winery's Petite Sirah is also considered one of Napa's finest wines. Winery tasting notes: "Our dry-farmed Petite Sirah comes from 100 year old vines on the south-west side of Calistoga. … The acidity and tannins of this wine are an immediate one-two punch but are complemented by undertones of dried plum, allspice, and hazelnut, all wrapped in a finely-knit texture that will need time to open up."
Starting Bid: $80.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Turley "Hayne Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Syrah ((92-94RP), 93VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Not surprisingly, one of the great Petite Syrahs made in this vintage has again come from the Hayne Vineyard. Turley’s inky/blue/purple-tinged 2005 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard possesses a boatload of tannin as well as a fabulously concentrated attack and mid-palate. This full-bodied monster reveals beautiful purity and intensity as well as a superb attack and richness. Give it 4-5 years of cellaring and drink it over the next 20-25 years. (RP)" (12/2006)

Bid on this magnum of 2010 Chateau Montelena Petite Sirah Napa Valley (1.5L). Antonio Galloni writes in the Wine Advocate: "Bo Barrett credits his experiences in 1987 and 1988 as a big reason he was able to handle the stresses of the 2010 vintage, in particular the late season heat spikes that gave growers fits. It’s great to see this historic property making wines that live up to its reputation." (12/2012)
Starting Bid: $80.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2013-2014 Turley "Library Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Syrah Vertical, including 2-bottle of 2013 Turley "Library Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Syrah (94RP, 94VN, 90WS) and 1-bottle of 2014 Turley "Library Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Syrah ((94-97VN), 95RP, 92WS). Of the 2014 Turley "Library Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Syrah,Vinous writes: "The 2014 Petite Syrah Library Vineyard emerges from a parcel in the center of town planted with at least 24 known varieties, including white grapes. Perhaps for that reason, the Library is extraordinarily complex. In 2014, there is an extra kick of vibrancy that amps up the flavors and gives the wine much of its precise, finely-sculpted personality. Readers who can find the Library should not hesitate for a second. Today, the wine is literally alive in the glass. (AG)" (10/2015)
