2016 Vinedos Malagon "Tinto Malagon" Baja California

There aren't a great many "best kept secrets" in the wine world these days, but for the past few years, Mexico's Baja California peninsula has been making a real go at claiming that title for itself. Wine production here is centered in the Valle de Guadalupe, and in the Valle, Vinedos Malagon is setting itself apart in terms of both its wines and its hospitality. 35% Grenache, 25% Cabernet, 20% Petite Sirah, 15% Merlot, 5% Nebbiolo.

2017 Palafox "Pionero" Red Blend Baja California

Lordes "Lulu" Martinez Ojeda of Bodegas Henri Lurton, was originally from Ensenada and studied abroad in Bordeaux, obtaining her viticulture degree and working for Henri Lurton of Chateau Brane-Cantenac for over a decade. After showing Henri her native region, he set up shop in the Valle de Guadalupe, bringing Lulu on board as chief winemaker. As one of the most in-demand winemakers in the Valle, Lulu has many side projects as well, including overseeing the Palafox wines.

2015 Adobe Guadalupe "Gabriel" Baja California

Guadalupe Valley is about two-thirds the size of Napa Valley in California, and was first planted with grape vines by Russian immigrants in 1904. Weather conditions are similar to that of southwestern France. Adobe Guadalupe tends 60 acres of vines which are tended with the highest of care, and their first vintage was in 2000. The wines are balanced and carry a fruity characteristic indicative of their latitude. Gabriel is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec.
