1997 Turley "Dogtown" Lodi Zinfandel

89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Zinfandel Dogtown (15.3% alcohol) is from a 65-year old vineyard situated on the border of Amador. Its dark ruby/purple/garnet color is followed by copious quantities of briery, berry fruit intermixed with loamy soil, underbrush, and spicy notes. Full-bodied and chewy, with excellent ripeness, this [is a] tasty, fleshy, full-throttle Zinfandel. As I have stated many times in the past, Turley Cellars' offerings have become the reference point for Zinfandel, as they are the most complex, concentrated, h ...Read More »

1997 Kistler Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir Back In Stock!
1997 Kistler Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

And you thought all the cult favorites from 1997 were long, long gone! According to Robert Parker: "It is easy to get excited about Kistler's Pinot Noirs. All are aged in 100% new oak, made in small lots (250-500 cases), and bottled with neither fining nor filtration. They are trying to keep the levels of SO2 to minimal dosages so the wines can be as expressive as possible. These Pinot Noirs can easily hold their own in blind tastings with the finest red Burgundies." (12/98)

1997 Contino Crianza Rioja

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Redcurrant, cherry and smoke on the slightly high-toned nose. Sweet entry, then a bit clenched from the bottling. Has good fruit and cut..." (11/1999) Wine Spectator: "Cherry, plum, licorice, toast and spice flavors mingle nicely in this balanced, supple red. It has enough structure for food. (TM)" (05/2002)

1997 Spring Mountain Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This cuvee of 41,832 bottles possesses a Bordeaux-like austerity, as well as abundant quantities of sweet cassis, cedar, and spice notes in the complex bouquet. The dark ruby color is followed by a dense, concentrated wine with an emphasis on elegance and symmetry as opposed to power and flamboyance. The finish is quite tannic. (RP)" (12/2000) Wine Spectator: "Complex, with smoky oak, ripe sweet black cherry and currant flavors, hints of anise, cedar and spice, sage and mineral. Well focused if drying and austere on the ...Read More »

1997 Calera "Mills Vineyard" Mt. Harlan Pinot Noir

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Sometimes a young Pinot is deceptive. This wine is young and silky, supple and fruity and has some sharp acidity, but it doesn’t overwhelm. It’s the kind of wine that doesn’t overshadow food. But it’s excellent Pinot. The depth of flavor and long finish suggest aging possibilities, but there’s no reason not to drink and enjoy it now." (07/2002) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This fully mature, outstanding Pinot Noir exhibits a dark garnet color with lightening at the edge. A sweet bouquet offers aromas of smoke, p ...Read More »

1997 Malescot-St-Exupéry, Margaux

"Malescot has long enjoyed a very favorable reputation, particularly for long lived, traditionally made, firmly styled wines...The well placed vineyards (some of them adjacent to those of Chateau Margaux) now tend to produce medium weight wine that can be compelling because of its combination of elegance and authoritative flavors." 1997 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (cracked capsule) Back In Stock!
1997 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (cracked capsule)

96 points Decanter: "At the peak of its powers, the 1997 Howell Mountain is bursting with black fruit, graphite, wood smoke and hints of tar and truffle. On the palate the wine is rich, plush and generous but well balanced, with great length and depth. A certain suppleness nods to the vintage's warmth, but that's by no means unwelcome in this typically firm-framed cuvée. Drinking Window 2017 - 2040 (WK)" 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The enormous 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a super-powerful, fabulously-concentrated, 50-year wi ...Read More »

1997 Vietti "Villero" Barolo Riserva

Full-bodied, with firm chewy tannins and a long plum, smoke and spicy aftertaste. Giant wine. This still needs lots of time.--1997 Italian blind retrospective. Best after 2010. (JS, Web-2007)" 95 points Vinous: "The 1997 Barolo Riserva Villero is at the early part of its drinking window. 1997 Arietta Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Kongsgaard and his partner, Fritz Hatten (whom readers may know from his association with Christie's auction house), produce the wine called Arietta. In 1997, production was about 450 cases. Beethoven was blaring from speakers situated throughout the winery as I tasted this wine. Kongsgaard says the Arietta may have a Beethoven label, but it is Wagnerian in style. A blend of 85% Cabernet Franc and 15% Merlot. Aromatic, with scents of black currants, cherries, flowers, leather, and spice, the stunningly rich, ...Read More »

1997 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend Back In Stock!
1997 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

95 points Vinous: "The 1997 Opus One tastes like it was made yesterday, not 16 years ago. One of the most opulent, racy wines in this vertical, the 1997 literally explodes from the glass. Juicy dark red cherries, menthol, tobacco and licorice all make an appearance as the 1997 opens up over time. Readers holding the 1997 are in for a thrill. Even though the growing season was defined by hot weather, a short maturation cycle and a large crop, the wine turned out beautifully. 1997 Suduiraut, Sauternes (375ml)

Tasted three times. Big wine that is fat and oily, with extremely rich and honeyed flavors. Perfect acidity gives the wine excellent balance. 92 points Stephen Tanzer: "Nose shows pungent aromas of fruit salad, flowers, coconut and oak spices, and a honeyed ripeness. Supersweet, highly concentrated and strong in extract, given clarity by fresh acids. Racy botrytis tones of honey and licorice. Finishes firm, long and complex." 1997 Famiglia Anselma Barolo "Adasi"

According to Robert Parker: "This traditionally made, dark ruby/garnet-colored Barolo exhibits notes of soy, dried herbs, earth, and leather. (JS)" (01/2000) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A seductive style of Palmer, the 1997 will have many admirers (assuming they can afford it). It boasts a dark ruby/plum/purple color in addition to a seductive bouquet of sweet berry fruit, and an elegant, medium-bodied, fruit-driven, easy-going, fleshy personality... the wine's harmony is excellent. 1997 Clos Du Val Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Back In Stock!
1997 Clos Du Val Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "0 A complex bouquet with prune, earth, and some prominent gamy notes may put some tasters off, but the dark fruit and toast, and the generally restrained style make this commendable. A velvety mouthfeel and dense flavors on the finish close out this elegant example." (11/2000) K&L Notes: Clos Du Val was founded in 1972 by American businessman, John Goelet, a descendant of the distinguished Guestier family of Bordeaux, and sixth-generation, Bordeaux-raised and trained winemaker, Bernard Portet. Deep plum flavor mingles with cherry jam, bitter chocolate and roasted coffee bean; very fresh and clear. The wine offers a superb sense of depth and harmony on the middle palate, and the tannins are firm but ripe. The long, silky finish is graced by an undercurrent of anise. 1997 Suduiraut, Sauternes (Previously $70)

92 points John Gilman: "The 1997 Suduiraut has reached a really lovely plateau in its evolution and is drinking splendidly at age nineteen. The bouquet is deep, pure and shows lovely secondary layers of complexity in its mélange of honey, fresh apricot, oranges, crème brulée, soil tones and a gentle framing of buttery oak. With air distinctive notes of clove and marmalade blossomed as well on the nose. There's plenty here to like now, but this has ample energy for additional development.--1997 Vintage Port retrospective (January 2017). Best from 2020 through 2035. 1997 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo
Bid on this bottle of 1997 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo (94RP, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I underestimated this wine from barrel, but now that the great old man of the village of Barolo, Bartolo Mascarello, has gotten it in bottle, it is an impressive, old style, heavyweight effort that will age for three decades. A dark plum/garnet color is accompanied by a striking bouquet of cinnamon, balsam wood, roses, tar, minerals, and cherry liqueur. There is good acidity, a broad, full-bodied, super-concentrated palate, and tell-tale truffle, leather, and dried herb notes. Powerful and long, this well-delineated, gorgeously pure, structured Barolo is a classic from the old school of Piedmontese winemaking. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2030. (RP)" (06/2001)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1997 Harlan Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC - 100RP, 97ST, 97WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Harlan Estate is one of the greatest Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines I have ever tasted. A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the rest Merlot and Cabernet Franc, this enormously-endowed, profoundly rich wine must be tasted to be believed. Opaque purple-colored, it boasts spectacular, soaring aromatics of vanilla, minerals, coffee, blackberries, licorice, and cassis. In the mouth, layer after layer unfold powerfully yet gently. Acidity, tannin, and alcohol are well-balanced by the wine's unreal richness and singular personality. The finish exceeds one minute. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2030. (RP)" (12/2000)
