1991 Spottswoode Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "1991 marked the last vintage with Tony Soter and Mia Klein. The year was the most abundant in Spottswoode’s history, producing 5,852 cases of a blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc. Interestingly, this was also one of the great early stars in the tasting, showing that high yields can (when conditions are perfect – and they were in 1991, with a long growing season with plenty of sunshine, but no real extreme heat waves). This wine still has a dense, ruby/bluish-purple color, full body, a stunning ...

1991 Sequoia Grove Estate Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe, firm and focused, with an intense core of currant, cherry, plum and spice, and it's developing a supple texture. Develops a rich, smoky aftertaste on the finish, where the flavors are most appealing. Best after 1998. 2,000 cases made." (07/94)

1991 Groth "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Wine Spectator: "Racy, curious, yet highly individualized style. Strong herbaceous streak, but there are currant, mint, black cherry and bell pepper flavors that are long, complex and concentrated on the finish. (JL, Web-2002)" K&L Notes: The Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes that make up Groth's Oakville Cabernet blend are grown on estate vineyards grown in the Oakville AVA, in the heart of the Napa Valley.

1991 Dow's Vintage Port

92 points Wine Spectator: "Perfumed and gorgeous, with flowers, berry and plum. Full-bodied, very sweet and round, with lovely rich fruit and a long finish. A tiny bit of heat, but will come around nicely. Very pretty indeed. Hard not to swallow now. (JS)" (05/2005) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The firmly-structured, moderately tannic, impressively colored and concentrated 1991 Vintage Port is less precocious and more reserved than the 1992 Quinta do Bomfim Vintage Port. It may develop along the lines of the stern but powerful 1977. The wi ...

1991 Robert Mondavi "Unfiltered" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Readers should beat a path to their wine merchant and stock up on the 1991 Cabernet Sauvignon Unfiltered. This is the finest regular Cabernet Sauvignon Mondavi has made. It offers an opaque dark ruby/purple color, a superb nose of blackcurrants, vanillin, mint, and toast, outstanding richness, great purity, medium to full body, an attractive suppleness, and a long, rich finish. Although it can be drunk now, it should age effortlessly for 10-15 years. (RP)" (12/1994) Wine Spectator: "Dark, with a rich, plush tex ...

1991 Palmer, Margaux

Decanter: "Overall, I very much liked the nose of this wine, which seemed at first to show just a hint of roasted bell pepper. The April frosts of this vintage challenged many vintners but, as Duroux explained, Palmer's terroir handled that challenge very well. Small quantities of wine, but very good. It seemed to improve in the glass and displayed a real smoothness on the palate. Surprisingly good. Three stars going on four." (01/2010) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Palmer's 1991 is a noteworthy effort. The deep ruby/purple color is followed by aroma ...

1991 Far Niente Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A top-notch effort from Far Niente, this 1991 Cabernet Sauvignon requires several more years of cellaring as it remains closed and forbiddingly backward and tight. From its opaque ruby/purple color, to its impressively pure, rich nose of cassis, herbs, and oak, this full-bodied, powerful, highly extracted, moderately tannic Cabernet is a candidate for 10-15 more years of cellaring. Don't be surprised to see this wine merit an outstanding score in 6-7 years. (RP)" (02/1995) Wine Spectator: "Supple and elegant, with a fine ...

1991 Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Wine Spectator: "Dark color. Sturdy, rich and concentrated, with complex currant, black cherry, tar, and plum flavors. Lacks the finesse and extra dimensions of the Special Selection, but still a very impressive, concentrated wine. (JL, Web-2002)" Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Dark ruby/purple-colored, with an intriguing nose of spicy new oak, blackcurrants, and a pronounced herbaceousness, this wine exhibits lush, medium to full-bodied, flavors, moderate tannin, fine ripeness, and the lavish oak Caymus Cabernets routinely display. (RP)" (10 ...

1991 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

97 points Decanter: "A triumph of balance and finesse, this 1991 is stylistically closer to Pauillac than Oakville! This bottle is very lightly corked but it's easy, for once, to disregard that. Very deep red in colour, it's showing only slight maturity. The nose is smoky and cedary, distinctly Bordelais in style, with refined blackberry fruit aromatics. The palate is rich and opulent, showing no extraction or excessive heft, while the texture is exquisite and the wine is still fresh. It has good length with some piquant acidity on the finish as well as ...

1991 Seavey Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Historically, this old vineyard can trace its origins to the 1870s. I previously recommended the 1991 (600 cases), and after re-tasting it I am even more impressed with this extraordinary Cabernet Sauvignon. It possesses an opaque black/purple color, a huge nose of sweet black fruits (primarily cassis and black-raspberries), full body, exceptional concentration, and well-integrated tannin and acidity. It is a massive, yet pure Cabernet Sauvignon that can be drunk now but promises to be even better by the turn of ...

1991 Fonseca "Guimaraens" Vintage Port

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Fonseca has scored in both the 1991 and 1992 vintages. The 1991 Guimaraens is the most impressive bottle I have tasted of this offering. The opaque purple color, and sweet, copious aromas of cassis, licorice, and flowers, are followed by a supple, rich, full-bodied, precocious tasting port that is already easy to drink. While it will be quick to develop, it still requires another 4-5 years of aging. It is extremely impressive because of its sumptuous texture and rich, pure fruit. (RP)" (02/1995) 93 points Wine ...

1991 Groth Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

Received a Spectator Selection designation from the Wine Spectator: "Shows a pronounced olive and herbal profile. Medium weight, good intensity and depth, firm tannins and an herb, tobacco, bell pepper finish" (2002) 87-91 points Robert Parker: "Both of Groth's regular cuvees of Cabernet Sauvignon offer the classic Groth style - sweet, almost intensely opulent fruit flavors, silky tannins, and hedonistic mouthfuls of ripe, herb, coffee, and cassis-flavored Cabernet fruit. The slightly less concentrated 1991 offers copious quantities of fruit in an up-fro ...

1991 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars "Cask 23" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The superb 1991 Cask 23 Proprietary Red Wine appears to be one of the truly outstanding examples of this expensive proprietary red wine. The wine's saturated dark purple color is followed by a huge, unevolved but sexy nose of toasty new oak, dense, black-cherry and jammy cassis fruit, and vague scents of underbrush and spice. Extremely rich and concentrated, it offers intriguing blackcurrant and coffee flavors, full body, remarkable harmony, and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. (RP)" (12/1994) 93 points ...

1991 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The second largest production of Beringer's Private Reserve, the 1991 came in just behind the 24,000 cases of the 1997. Interestingly, these are among the greatest Private Reserves made, and as Ed Sbragia told me, it was just one of those perfect vintages. One of the longest and coolest growing seasons in the history of California, it was marked by cool temperatures throughout the summer and a perfect Indian Summer. The hang time of the grapes, ranging from the date of flowering to the date of harvest, was histor ...

1991 Caymus "Special Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Wine Spectator: "Healthy dark color, wonderful youthful vitality. Rich mocha, chocolate, black cherry and spice flavors, elegant and polished, with softening tannins and dusty, cedary oak adding dimension. Excellent balance. (JL, Web Only-2002)" 92 points Vinous: "Bright medium red, showing remarkably little amber at the rim. Mellow nose offers aromas of raspberry, mocha, brown spices and sandalwood. Spicy and reasonably sweet, but with a slight acid edge giving shape to its red berry, spice and cocoa flavors; neither black in its flavor profi ...

1991 Silverado Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points and a Spectator Selection designation from the Wine Spectator: "A ripe and richly concentrated wine, with focused cherry, berry and currant flavors. 1991 Flora Springs "Trilogy" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1991 Trilogy offers a cassis, smoky, blackcurrant-scented nose, elegant, soft, medium-bodied flavors, moderate tannin, and a complex, cedary, black fruit profile. No one was more critical of Flora Springs' proprietary red wine, Trilogy, than I during the eighties. Things have unquestionably changed, as this wine, usually a blend of approximately 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc, has become a serious entry into the high quality proprietary red wine sweepstakes. It is aged in 50% new French ...

1991 Newton "Unfiltered" Napa Valley Merlot

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Newton Merlots are the finest now being made in California. The two vintages in release, the 1990 and 1991, possess exotic, Asian-spice, chocolate, mocha, sweet black-cherry-scented bouquets, thick, succulent, voluptuous flavors, admirable fruit, glycerin, and body, and whoppingly long finishes. These are super-rich, intense, spectacular, exotic, flamboyant Merlots. (RP)" (10/1993)

1991 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Cos d'Estournel's 1991 (about 50% of the harvest was declassified) is one of the wines to buy given its relatively low price and fine quality. It displays a dark ruby color, and a big, rich nose of cassis fruit married intelligently with spicy new oak. Offering surprising fatness and fleshiness, fine length, and a sweet, creamy texture, it should drink well for at least a decade. (RP)" (02/1994) Wine Spectator: "One of the best wines of the vintage. Well focused, with lots of chunky fruit. The vanilla, tobacco and chocol ...

1991 Montrose, St-Estèphe

Jancis Robinson: "Bright crimson. Very grown-up minerals sort of nose with lots of development. Lift and lightness on this wine with real confidence and it’s ready to drink. Perhaps not an enormous depth of fruit but nice balance and very refreshing. Quite racy. And then sinewy, dry, angular on the finish. There is real lift in this wine but the tannins are a bit dry. 17/20" (02/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1991 reveals a dark, saturated color (one of the most opaque wines of the vintage), and a tight but promising nose of sweet, jammy, bl ...

1991 Far Niente "Dolce" Napa Valley Dessert Wine (375ml)

94 points Wine Spectator: "Smooth and generous. A lush mouthful of fig, honey, pineapple and pear flavors that swirl and linger seductively on the rich texture. Long and delicious, this feels ready now, but could develop more depth with cellaring... (Web Only—1998)" K&L Notes: From Matt Kramer's New California Wine: "In 1991, Far Niente's owner, the late Gil Nickel, decided that he wished to re-create, as best as possible, a Sauternes-style wine in Napa Valley. Much to everyone's astonishment--my own included--he has succeeded... What's impressive is ju ...

1991 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 1991 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (96ST, 93RP, 93VN, 91WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, deep red-ruby. Wonderfully mellow and complex on the nose, offering everything from fresh dark fruits to chocolate, red licorice, flowers and graphite minerality. Pure liquid silk in the mouth; at once sharply delineated and edge-free thanks to superb harmonious acidity, possessing a wonderfully tight core of juicy fruit. This very dry, classic Howell Mountain Cabernet finishes with serious dusty but sweet tannins and will still improve. Stunning wine. (ST)" (08/2018)
