1990 Pavie, St-Emilion

92 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe and fresh. Just what it should be. Deep ruby with red hue. Loads of chocolate, vanilla, tobacco and ripe fruit. Full bodied with lots of velvety tannins and a long finish. (JS)" (08/2000) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Perhaps the last great Pavie before Gerard Perse bought the estate in 1997. The 1990 Pavie sports a deep core with deep tawny rim and sports a very “classic” Pavie bouquet that is muted at first, but unfurls gracefully with intense cedar aromas deriving from the Cabernet Sauvignon. Underneath th ...

1990 Margaux, Margaux

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Château Margaux has turned into a sensational wine that eclipses both the 1988 and 1989...and then some. It has a gorgeous, ethereal bouquet with sumptuous red berry fruit, leather, camphor and licorice—it is the kind of nose in which you just immerse yourself. Is there a hint of brettanomyces here? If there is, I don't really care. The palate is soft and sensual with incredible depth. Fleshy and corpulent for Chateau Margaux, and yet surfeit with breeding and finesse, there are layers or red fruit, kir ...

1990 Opus One Napa Valley Proprietary Red (high shoulder fill, signs of past seepage)

96 points Wine Spectator: "Dramatic, with its ripe, rich, plush core of exotic currant, anise, cedar, vanilla and berry notes that are enormously complex on the finish. Delicious. (JL)" (02/2000) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In a blind tasting, this wine did not fool many tasters when served blind. It was quickly identified as a California wine despite the fact that it is made in a Bordeaux-like style. The wine performed well, exhibiting a deep ruby/purple color, a lead pencil, grapy, spicy oak-scented nose, medium body, a tight, more comp ...

1990 Meyney, St-Estèphe

Wine Spectator: "A bit rustic, but impressive. Dark garnet color. Lots of currant, prune and cherry on the nose. Full-bodied, with tobacco, cherry, and tar character and big velvety tannins. (JS)" (08/2000) K&L Notes: One of the oldest estates in the Médoc, Château Meyney sits on a hilltop overlooking the Gironde estuary. The wine is deep red, earthy, and well-structured.

1990 Far Niente "Dolce" Napa Valley Dessert Wine (375ml)

Dolce is Napa's ultimate Sauternes-style dessert wine, with its noble botrytis underpinning and joyful acidity made from a combination of late-harvest Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc from the temperate town of Coombsville. Its 20-acre vineyard is naturally sheltered from the wind so that the morning fog and natural humidity linger to allow botrytis to take hold on the grape clusters. The luxurious Sauternes style is completed by 32 months in new French oak before bottling. The wine will pair well with foie gras, poached figs, blue or washed-rind cheeses, or ...

90 points and a Highly Recommended designation from the Wine Spectator: "This offers bright, lively black cherry, currant and plum flavors that are rich, focused and elegant. Finishes with a long, fruity aftertaste and smooth, polished tannins. Delicious now with its complex array of flavors, but age-worthy, too." (10/94)

1990 Jordan Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine Spectator: "Tight, young and chunky, especially for Jordan, but the flavors are familiar, with herb, currant and spicy wood flavors. (JL)" (06/1994) K&L Notes: Most recent vintage notes from the winery: "A more robust version of the 1980 vintage, the 1990 Jordan is still lively with dried cherry and plum leading the aromatics, with pleasant nuances of forest floor, eucalyptus, tobacco and tea making up the background. The finish is long, silky, complex and complete. The harmony and balance of this vintage is beautifully conveyed in this wine’s agi ...

1990 Domaine Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley Grand Cru (1.5L)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Many professionals feel that Faiveley's finest wine is not their Chambertin-Clos de Beze, Mazis-Chambertin, or Clos de Vougeot, but their Corton-Clos des Cortons. It is often the most backward of their grands crus. The 1990 offers a nearly opaque purple color, a tight, but promising nose of blackcurrants, toasty new oak, oriental spices, and minerals. In the mouth, it is the most concentrated of all the Faiveley grands crus. Dense and rich, with a high level of soft tannins, this full-bodied, massively endowed wi ...

1990 Ausone, St-Emilion

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: " Red-ruby with a hint of amber at the edge. Red cherry, redcurrant, minerals, chocolate and a medicinal hint of cough syrup on the nose. Minerally, fresh and juicy, with penetrating acids framing the rich fruit. Finishes very long, with dusty tannins spreading over the entire palate. Turned slightly dry as it opened in the glass. Drink 2006 to 2030. " (08/2002) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Chewy, monolithic wine. Aromas of dried herbs and berries. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a tar, tobacco ...

1990 Raymond Lafon, Sauternes (375ml)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This small estate continues to turn out remarkably rich, unctuously-textured, thick, powerful wines that brilliantly balance power and intensity with elegance and finesse. Now that the 1988, 1989 and 1990 vintages have had some time in the bottle, it appears that the light to medium gold colored 1990 may be the most complete and botrysized among this trio of exceptional wines from Raymond-Lafon. All the wines possess a light to medium gold color, with the 1989 revealing a more evolved, deeper color. All three win ...

1990 Roc de Cambes, Côtes de Bourg

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I have been a big believer in this Cote de Bourg made by the obsessive/compulsive Francois Mitjavile, who is better known for his outstanding small St.-Emilion estate, Le Tertre-Roteboeuf. I initially rated these wines 89 for the 1990 and 88 for the 1989. In this recent tasting I was thrilled to see how well the wines showed. Both are fully mature, yet capable of lasting another 7-8 years. With the price escalation for wines such as Le Tertre-Roteboeuf, I suppose Roc des Cambes will now be known as the 'poor pers ...

1990 Groth Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Groth's regular cuvee of Cabernet Sauvignon offers the classic Groth style - sweet, almost intensely opulent fruit flavors, silky tannins, and hedonistic mouthfuls of ripe, herb, coffee, and cassis-flavored Cabernet fruit. The expansive 1990, which has had 15% Merlot added, is a near-termer, with low acidity, satiny smooth, rich flavors, and gobs of toffee, mocha, and cassis in its bouquet. Cabernet lovers should find this flattering wine immensely appealing. One can only imagine how impressive Groth's 1990 Re ...

Full-bodied and lightly sweet, with a ginger and dried citrus finish. (JS)" (08/2000) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted as part of a vertical held at the chateau. 1990 Caymus "Special Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Cabernet Sauvignon-Special Selection appears to be the best Caymus has produced since 1986 and 1985. Two thousand, six-bottle cases will be released in February, 1994. The wine offers a saturated, dark purple color, and a rich, spicy, oaky nose backed up by generous quantities of jammy blackcurrants. Ripe, highly extracted, and full-bodied, with copious amounts of sweet tannin and layers of fruit, this is a knock-out, flamboyantly-styled Cabernet. (JS)" (08/2000) 93 points Vinous: "The 1990 Sociando-Mallet is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc picked between September 13 and October 2. 1990 Spottswoode Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "1990 was the first vintage (4,756 cases produced) and one of the most abundant before the replanting became essential because of phylloxera, and was again made at Robert Pepi. However, the percentage of Cabernet Franc jumped to 10% in the final blend. Mia Klein, who worked with Tony Soter, was part of the winemaking team. This wine performed beautifully, and had that Château Margaux-like finesse, elegance and richness. The exceptionally concentrated 1990 reveals more polished, sweeter tannins along with a big, sweet kiss of black currant, forest floor, cedar, and spice box notes. Medium to full-bodied and fleshy with low acidity, sweet tannin, and an expansive mouthfeel with no hard edges, it is a fully mature 1990 that should drink well for another decade. 1990 Williams Selyem "Olivet Lane" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 1990 Williams Selyem "Olivet Lane" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (89RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This winery receives considerable praise (justifiably so) for their stylish, immensely flavorful and complex Cotes de Beaune-styled Pinot Noirs. They are obviously aware of how fragile Pinot Noir is because Williams-Selyem is one of only a handful of American wineries to capture the elusive Pinot Noir perfume without stripping the wine with multiple manipulations and clarifications. The light to medium ruby color of the 1990 Olivet Lane is somewhat deceiving given the amount of richness offered by the bouquet and flavors. The nose, which displays an intriguing earthy, berry, spicy component, reminds me of a high class premier cru from Beaune. The wine is soft, round, and gentle, with delicious berry fruit, toasty oak, and an attractive complexity. (RP)" (10/1993)

1990 Montrose, St-Estèphe
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Montrose, St-Estèphe (100RP, 95ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I was served blind a magnum of the 1990 Montrose in Cape Town, which had been purchased on release and stored in perfect conditions. Now, here was the real deal, unfettered by any infection, a regal Saint Estèphe. It shows approximately the same evolution as the 1989 in bottle, but unsurprisingly showed less bricking in magnum format. The bouquet is cut from a different cloth to the 1989 and attests to that warm vintage: hickory, clove, undergrowth and wild fennel, later garrigue-like scents and terracotta, the latter two more pronounced on the bottle format compared to the youthful magnum. The palate is full-bodied and powerful, yet the balance is perfect, a ballerina-like poise with the structure of the Forth Bridge. It is a multi-layered Montrose that offers enormous length, fresh and vibrant with the magnum demonstrating tangible mineralite and tension as it fans out on the crescend

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1990 Mayacamas Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (92VN). Vinous: "Sweet tobacco, mint, leather, autumn leaves, cedar, smoke and mint are some of the signatures of the 1990 Cabernet Sauvignon. At twenty- five years of age, the 1990 remains youthful and surprisingly deep. Although the bouquet shows lovely signs of maturity, the 1990 appears to have enough depth to drink well for another decade, perhaps longer, even if time is not likely to make it a materially better wine than it is today. Readers should expect a classic, Old World Napa Cabernet with some imperfections, including a touch of brett that will disturb some tasters more than others. With time in the glass, the 1990 comes together nicely though. (AG)" (10/2015)

Bid on this bottle of 1990 Gentaz-Dervieux "Côte Brune - Cuvée Réservée" Côte-Rôtie (93JG). John Gilman: "As many lovers of Côte-Rôtie will recall, 1990 did not favor this appellation with the same success as encountered further south in Hermitage and Cornas, as the extreme heat and drought conditions forced the vines to shut down for an extended period of time during the growing season, leading to quite a bit less general ripeness in Côte-Rôtie than was the case in other appellations. However, Marius Gentaz managed to craft a superb example of the vintage, and the wine is beginning to drink beautifully after an extended period where the structural elements in the wine had the upper hand. The bouquet is now deep and brilliant, as it soars from the glass in a blaze of red and black raspberries, grilled venison, tobacco leaf, curry past, stony minerality and cracked pepper. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very much defined by its underlying terroir, with great vinosity, d

Bid on this bottle of 1990 d'Yquem, Sauternes (99RP, 95WS, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An extraordinary effort, Yquem's 1990 is a rich and fabulously superb, sweet wine. This wine also possesses lots of elegance and finesse. The wine's medium gold color is accompanied by an exceptionally sweet nose of honeyed tropical fruits, peaches, coconut, and apricots. High quality, subtle toasty oak is well-integrated. The wine is massive on the palate, with layers of intensely ripe botrytis-tinged, exceptionally sweet fruit. Surprisingly well-integrated acidity, and a seamless, full-bodied power and richness have created a wine of remarkable harmony and purity. Certainly it is one of the richest Yquems I have ever tasted, with 50-100 years of potential longevity. An awesome Yquem! Anticipated maturity: 2003-2050+. (RP)" (04/1999)
