1985 DRC Domaine de la Romanée Conti La Tâche Grand Cru (2.5cm fill, signs of past seepage)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Poured from magnum, the 1985 La Tache is surprisingly paler in colour than I might have expected. The nose is very refined with touches of maraschino, limestone, strawberry preserve...the quintessential pure Pinote really. The palate is medium-bodied and perfectly balanced. This is an understated Grand Cru with filigree tannins and a refined finish with nuanced lapsang souchong embroidered on the finish. It is not La Tache that boldly goes out to prove itself. It is not the great ever produced. But it is an absol ...Read More »

1985 René Collard "Cuvee Reservee Millesime" Brut Champagne

René Collard was born in 1921 in the heart of the Marne Valley. At 22, his father (who was a grower) saw his dedication to the family vineyards and gave him a little less than a hectare of vines in the village of Reuil. Since that time he has been making a tiny amount of the most unique Champagne in the world. He has slowly added to his estate- buying up choice vineyards in the villages of Reuil and Damery. His estate is just less than 7 hectares (17.5 acres) planted to about 90% meunier and 10% chardonnay. He has the good fortune of having an amazing ce ...Read More »

1985 Fonseca Vintage Port

96 points Decanter: "A troublesome vintage for many shippers, but Fonseca 1985 never fails to impress: tight-knit, dense and minty with a core of concentration and pure berry fruit. Succulent, wonderfully fresh and vibrant at 30 years old. Peacock’s tail of a finish. A real ‘wow’ of a wine that promises to last a lifetime. (RM)" (11/2015) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1985 Fonseca is still youthful in appearance with hardly any ageing on the rim. The nose offers kirsch, sloes and Christmas cake. With time, there are subtle notes of drie ...Read More »

1985 Kenwood "Artist Series" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Wine Spectator: "Deep and intense, with a sense of elegance surrounding the black cherry, mint and curant flavors. The tannins are firm and gritty but the fruit fights through on the finish." (04/1995) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The color remains a saturated dark ruby with light brick at the edge. Although full-bodied and tannic, with noticeable oak and impressive extraction, the wine is closed and not yet ready for prime time drinking. Give it another 4-5 years of cellaring; it will last for at least 15+ more years. (RP)" (04/1995) K& ...Read More »

1985 Blandy´s Malmsey Madeira

Neal Martin writes: "My “road to Damascus” was a Bual 1920 tasted in the Old Blandy Wine Lodge in Funchal. Up until then, I had assumed I would dislike Madeira. How wrong I was! So I will always have a great deal of time for this major house, which supplies around one-third of all Madeira sold and celebrated their bicentennial last year. I have detailed the history of Blandy’s on several occasions and so I advise readers to seek out my article “The Atlantic Jewel” on Wine-Journal for further information. Basically, Blandy’s is a brand under the Madeira W ...Read More »

1985 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Red-ruby. Ripe aromas of plum, currant, lead pencil and milk chocolate. Sweet but penetrating and gripping, with lovely clarity of flavor and terrific thrust. Classic claret, with lovely fruit and a very long, ripely tannic finish. A compelling example from this very elegantly styled vintage. (ST)" (07/2002) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1985 is a gorgeous example that may well represent a more modern-day clone of the splendid 1953. Dark ruby/garnet with an open-knit, complex, ripe ...Read More »

1985 Graham's Vintage Port

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Graham is the undisputed star and kingpin of the 1985 vintage ports. Yes, it is made in a sweeter style than the other ports, but it is a fabulous wine because of a dazzling level of black-cherry fruit, an enormous structure, and staggering depth, dimension, and length. (RP)" (01/1989) 96 points Wine Spectator: "Dark color, with intense aromas of blackberry, licorice and hints of flowers. Full-bodied, lightly sweet, with superrefined tannins. Long and caressing. Very youthful. Will improve for a long time. This ...Read More »

1985 Poujeaux, Moulis-en-Medoc (1.5L)

91 points John Gilman: " I adored Poujeaux back in the decade of the 1980s, when it was one of the greatest steals to be found on the Left Bank, and the 1985 showed beautifully at our big tasting of the vintage here in New York in October. The bouquet is deep, complex and utterly classic for this fine Moulis property, wafting from the glass in a mix of cassis, cigar ash, incipient notes of chipotle peppers, a touch of coffee and a topnote of graphite. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish, complex and beautifully tangy, with a fine core of fruit, melti ...Read More »

1985 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (6L)

92 points Wine Spectator: "Quite ripe, with flavors of plum cake, warm pain d'épices, mint, Christmas pudding and fruitcake embedded in mulled currant and fig fruit. Offers a long, coffee-tinged finish, alluring ripeness and an easy structure.—Non-blind Pichon Lalande vertical (July 2014). Drink now through 2025. (JM, Web-2014)" Vinous: "What a treat it is to taste these two Pichon Lalandes straight from the chateau’s cellar. The 1985 Pichon Lalande opens with mature, tertiary aromatics. Still huge and concentrated on the palate, the 1985 still has rema ...Read More »

1985 E. Guigal Cote Rotie La Mouline
Bid on this bottle of 1985 E. Guigal Cote Rotie La Mouline (100RP, 97VN, 97WS, 96ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the all-time great La Moulines, this still youthful and unevolved wine does not have the tannic ferocity of the 1988, or the sheer force and intensity of the 1978, 1976, and 1969, but it represents the epitome of this single-vineyard wine. Everything fits perfectly in this full-bodied, black/purple-colored wine that reveals no garnet or amber at the edge of its color. The nose offers up a formidable array of overripe black raspberries and cherries intertwined with scents of cedar, chocolate, olives, and toast. Extremely full-bodied, with an unctuosity and opulence that must be tasted to be believed, this velvety-textured wine's finish lasts for over a minute. It is one of the most concentrated but profoundly endowed and well-balanced wines I have ever tasted. Like so many of the wines Guigal has produced from this vineyard, no matter how hard one tries to articul

1985 E. Guigal "La Turque" Côte-Rôtie
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1985 E. Guigal "La Turque" Côte-Rôtie (100RP, 96ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The debut vintage for this wine was especially impressive in view of the fact that the vineyard was so young. The 1985 La Turque's color remains a dark purple, with no signs of amber or lightening. The nose explodes from the glass, revealing scents of jammy black fruits, licorice, lead pencil, and smoke. Sweet, thick, highly concentrated flavors contain enough acidity and soft wood tannin to give the wine a well-focused feel. This prodigiously endowed, rich wine should continue to evolve.
