1983 Maison Charles Noellat Nuits St. Georges

Jasper Morris, MW writes: "The Noëllat tribe are abundant in this part of the Côte de Nuits. Two brothers, Charles and Ernest, flourished in the early part of the 20th century. Charles had a son, André, who died in 1941, and whose daughter Odile married Alain Hudelot, to form Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat in Vougeot. Domaine Charles Noëllat no longer exists since its purchase by Lalou Bize-Leroy in 1988."

1983 Gould Campbell Vintage Port

90 points Wine Spectator: "This is right up with the major-league 1983s. It is extremely full and concentrated, with a massive fruit structure. Inky color, very concentrated black currant nose, full-bodied, with tons of tannin, velvety fruit flavors and a closed finish. Truly excellent. (JS, Web Only-1989)" Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "My experience with this house is limited. One rarely sees this brand stateside. The 1983 is rich, full-bodied, well-colored, and complex." (01/1989)

1983 Dow's Vintage Port

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is an extraordinary house that seems to have been particularly successful with its vintage port since 1977.The 1983 is rich, concentrated, very fruity, and magnificently perfumed, suggesting that it is going to mature early, long before the 1977. (RP)" (01/1989) Jancis Robinson: "Mid crimson and slightly grey. Very sweet and round and slightly raisiny. Slight rustic edge but very ripe and round and lively with a certain freshness and punch. Long and powerful. Looking good for the future, A confident wine. ...

1983 Suduiraut, Sauternes (375ml)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This looks to be a good Suduiraut. A medium golden color, with a very honeyed, rich, floral bouquet... Sweet, with fine honeyed flavors, this is an elegant, graceful Suduiraut with plenty of character... (RP)" (01/1998) Wine Spectator: "Delicious and balanced, showing exciting earthy, white truffle flavors that add complexity to the honey and spice notes. Medium intensity. " (04/1995)

1983 Graham's Vintage Port

93 points Wine Spectator: "A superb achievement from a very underrated year. Deep dark ruby-purple, with rich floral and violet aromas, full-bodied, with masses of strawberry flavors, full tannins and a long finish. (JS, Web Only-1989)" 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their tawnys are quite good rather than ...

1983 Clerc Milon, Pauillac

According to the Wine Spectator: "Muscular and dense with gamy, toasted oak aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, featuring loads of ripe fruit and round tannins. A very good drink but could use some more time; better after 1997.--The Bordeaux 50." (10/94) According to Robert Parker: "This is a pleasant, lightweight wine that offers a ripe fruity, oaky bouquet…" (Bordeaux Book, 1998)

1983 Doisy Daene, Barsac (375ml)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Doisy-Daene finished its harvest 1 month after d’Yquem, and has possibly produced this property's finest wine in over two decades. A big, ripe bouquet of pineapples, peaches, and spring flowers is very attractive. On the palate, the wine is concentrated, full bodied, and unctuous, without being too heavy or alcoholic. Excellent acidity suggests a long, eventful evolution. (RP)" (03/1990) Wine Spectator: "A pleasant drink and there's even some complexity, but it's not cuddly. Light gold, waxy and sulfury on the ...

1983 Sterling "Diamond Mountain Ranch" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Sterling's Diamond Mountain Ranch is located west of the town of Calistoga in the Diamond Mountain AVA. The property is 120 acres, and it ranges in elevation from 1,700-2,000 feet in elevation up the steep northern face of the Mayacamas Mountains. The volcanic soils are meager and the winery dry farms the vines to add to the resulting wine's intensity and concentration.

Bid on this bottle of 1983 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (94WS, 93JS, 92ST, 90RP). Wine Spectator: "Super-refined 1983 Bordeaux with an excellent deep ruby color and intense cigar-box, plum and berry aromas and flavors; there's even a hint of mint. It's full-bodied but very reserved in style with fine tannins and a seductively long finish. (JS)" (10/1994)

1983 Beychevelle, St-Julien
Bid on this 7-bottle lot of 1983 Beychevelle, St-Julien . Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Dark ruby with some amber at the edge, this wine has a ripe, intense, cassis smell. Moderately rich and tannic on the palate, with good depth, the 1983 continues to exhibit an aggressive texture, and a long, rough finish. This is a good rather than profound Beychevelle. 1983 Weingut Robert Weil Kiedricher Gräfenberg Riesling Spatlese
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1983 Weingut Robert Weil Kiedricher Gräfenberg Riesling Spatlese. Weingut Robert Weil is a producer in the Rheingau in Germany. It makes a range of Riesling wines which are considered by many to be some of the best in Germany. These range from dry Kabinett wines to sweet, rich Trockenbeerenauslese wines made from Botrytis-infected grapes. Dr. Robert Weil first purchased vineyards in Kiedrich in 1867. At the time, he was a professor of German at the Sorbonne University in Paris, but with the start of the Franco-Prussian War, he was forced to leave France and settle in the Rheingau. In 1875, he acquired a manor and more vineyard holdings, and began producing wine. Riesling became popular and helped put German Riesling on the international map. The finest and most age-worthy Riesling produced in the Rober Weil portfolio are sourced from the vineyard site Gräfenberg.

1983 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Amoureuses"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1983 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Amoureuses". Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Chambolle Amoureuses vertical in London, it has been some 25 years since Robert Parker last reviewed the 1983 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses from Drouhin, noting that the wine underwent an intense filtration. Given that this was not a great Burgundy vintage, this wine has actually matured well. It has a light soy-tinged bouquet with some volatile acidity lending a bit of warmth. The palate is medium-bodied and pleasantly fresh and vital considering its age, nothing complex but with a delicate spicy finish. I would not leave this too much longer, but well kept bottles will give pleasure. (NM)" (03/2016)

1983 Domaine Louis Trapet Gevrey-Chambertin
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1983 Domaine Louis Trapet Gevrey-Chambertin. Jasper Morris, MW writes: "Domaine Louis Trapet in Burgundy was actually established by Louis's son Arthur, back in 1870, when he began acquiring vineyards and laying the foundations for the present Domaine. The Trapets now have 12 hectares of vines including 1.9 hectares of the hallowed Chambertin. The Domaine is currently run by Jean-Louis Trapet, son of Jean and cousin of the Rossignol Trapets. He is married to an Alsacienne, Andrée, and together they maintain links with and make wine from Alsace, though production remains firmly centered on Gevrey-Chambertin. Jean-Louis moved towards biodynamic farming in the mid 1990s, working first with guru Francois Bouchet and now with Pierre Masson. The domaine has been certified by Biodivin since 1998 and Demeter from 2005."

1983 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien (OWC)
Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 1983 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien (OWC - 91RP) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Served at the Ducru offline in London. Hmm…not quite sure why I marked this so low because this performed way above my expectations. It has a surprisingly intense, lifted bouquet with strong savoury notes, quite animally/meaty, touches of spice and thyme. If I am to complain, it is just a little diffuse at 27-years of age. The palate is medium-bodied and quite candied on the entry, fully mature as one would expect with vibrant red-berried fruit, cigar box, a touch of thyme, well integrated oak with a refined finish. I would not leave this much longer, but I have to change my views on this Ducru having tasted this bottle. Drink now-2024. Tasted September 2009. (NM)" (07/2010)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1983 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (92RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Pale to medium brick colored, the 1983 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has a subtle yet absolutely lovely nose of dried flowers, cranberry sauce, raspberry preserves and powdered cinnamon with a hint of forest floor. The medium-bodied palate fills the mouth with perfumed red fruit preserves, supported by chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy. (LPB)" (02/2018)

The Rugiens is worthwhile here, as can the Epenots..." (Côte d'Or: A Celebration of the Great Wines of Burgundy, pg 222)

1983 Clos du Val Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1983 Clos du Val Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. After a two-year mission commissioned by American businessman John Goelet to find a new site with potential for making world-class wines, French-born winemaker Bernard Portet found and chose what would eventually be called the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley for its cool evenings and terrain. The 150-acre parcel that Goelet purchases became Clos du Val, a "small estate of a small Valley." Producing classically styled wines of balance, elegance and complexity has been the winery's goal ever since. The estate is still family owned.
