1980 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (oxidized capsules, very high to high shoulder fills)

95 points Vinous: "Black cherries, plums, tobacco, incense, new leather, licorice and savory herbs take shape in the 1980 Opus One. A wine of extraordinary richness and pure power, the 1980 impresses for its depth and size. Absolutely nothing is out of place in this impeccably refined, layered wine. Cinnamon, cloves, menthol, hard candy, tar and licorice all flesh out on the rich, resonant finish. Today, the 1980 is firing on all cylinders. It remains a monument to the greatness of California wine. The growing season was long and cool. A late season heat ...

1980 Domaine Louis Trapet Chambertin Grand Cru
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1980 Domaine Louis Trapet Chambertin Grand Cru. Jasper Morris, MW writes: "Domaine Louis Trapet in Burgundy was actually established by Louis's son Arthur, back in 1870, when he began acquiring vineyards and laying the foundations for the present Domaine. The Trapets now have 12 hectares of vines including 1.9 hectares of the hallowed Chambertin. The Domaine is currently run by Jean-Louis Trapet, son of Jean and cousin of the Rossignol Trapets. He is married to an Alsacienne, Andrée, and together they maintain links with and make wine from Alsace, though production remains firmly centered on Gevrey-Chambertin. Jean-Louis moved towards biodynamic farming in the mid 1990s, working first with guru Francois Bouchet and now with Pierre Masson. The domaine has been certified by Biodivin since 1998 and Demeter from 2005."

1980 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1980 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Grand Cru (94VN, 93BH). Vinous: "The 1980 Clos de le Roche revealed a similarly rustic style in its black olives, dark cherries and spices. A big, powerful wine, it probably needed more air to show at its best as it was constantly changing in the glass and offered immense pleasure. I could sense more than a little regret at the table among those who finished their pours quickly! (AG)" (08/2007)

1980 d'Yquem, Sauternes
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1980 d'Yquem, Sauternes (93RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This year is a perfect example of a vintage that was much better for the sweet wines of Barsac and Sauternes than it was for the red wines. Yquem produced its greatest wine since the twin titans of 1975 and 1976. Medium golden, with a big, opulent, honeyed, oaky, flowery, tropical fruit bouquet, this wine is rich and concentrated, has very good acidity, a lot of botrytis, and a stunning finish. It is a great success, and it continues to evolve at a snail's pace. Anticipated maturity: Now-2035. (RP)" (01/1998)

1980 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes
Bid on this bottle of 1980 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes (93BH, 92JG). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Not surprisingly 30 years later, this is much, much fresher in magnum, in fact so much so that it almost seems like a completely different wine. Bricked through. An elegant and wonderfully spicy nose offers up plenty of sous-bois, earth, dried rose petal and a hint of minerality that continues onto the delicious, focused and still relatively concentrated flavors that possess both style and grace before culminating in a refined, delicious and lingering finish. Like most '80s today, this is not a big or even especially powerful effort but the sense of underlying harmony and overall balance is impeccable." (11/2009)
