2017 Adegas Valtea Albariño Rias Baixas

Our third vintage of this direct import Albariño, this wine shows everything we like in the grape: hints of lemongrass, lively stone fruit, and a brisk, saline-tinged palate. Located in the sub-zone of Condado do Tea, where the days are a bit warmer and evenings are slightly cooler, there is a wonderful mid-palate presence to complement the typically lean and mineral qualities of Albariño. A classic with any shellfish, especially Dungeness crab!

2016 Adegas Valtea "Finca Garabato" Albariño Rias Baixas

Finca Garabato is a parcel of Valtea's oldest wines. You will notice that it says "2o Año" on the label, which refers to the fact that it ages in tank on its lees for a year following fermentation. This gives the wine a lovely richness, whichreally ramps up the flavor and textural qualities of the wine. Still refreshing, only richer than the regular Valtea bottling and ready to take on a meal.

2017 Fento Wines "Bico da Ran" Albariño Rias Baixas

A project lead by Eulogio Pomares, famous for his work at Zarate, this Salnes Valley Albariño is crisp, fresh, juicy, and centered on a bright, yellow fruit profile. Impeccably balanced Albariño done just right, it will be sure to hit the spot. Best to hurry on this one as there is not too much more of it available stateside.

2017 Pazo de Señorans Albariño Rias Baixas

92 points James Suckling: "The complex white-peach, gooseberry and floral nose is very enticing and just beginning to open up. Rich, yet sleek and elegant with spot-on balance of fruit, creaminess from yeast contact and lemon-lime acidity. Where is that pan-fried fish! " (08/2018) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The regular 2017 Albariño is sold early with primary aromas and flavors and good structure that should allow it to age nicely in bottle. 2017 saw a very early harvest, low yields and concentrated wines. This was bottled without malola ...

2017 Raul Pérez "Atalier" Albariño Rias Baixas

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The second vintage of the Albariño 2017 Atalier fermented in 5,000-liter oak foudre and stainless steel, approximately 50/50 of each. It has a clean and discrete nose, but the surprise is the vibrant palate with a long wine, lifted and fresh, with subdued minerality and a tasty, serious finish. I think this is going to age nicely. 10,000 bottles. (LG)" (02/2019) K&L Notes: Importer's notes: "Atalier is the exciting new Rías Baixas Albariño project from the redoubtable Raúl Pérez, produced in conjunction with hi ...

2015 Do Ferreiro Albariño Rias Baixas

Do Ferreiro is a benchmark Albariño. Every year, it delivers the goods, showing a degree of aromatic complexity, nervy minerality, and pure intensity of flavor that always makes it stand out from the rest. Delicious upon release, it is also one of the few Albariños to improve in bottle for up to a decade (maybe longer?) beyond the vintage year. There is bright fruit intermingling with the classic Do Ferreiro salty/smoky mineral bite. Enjoy this wine on its own or with all types of seafood. This would even be terrific with a hearty bean soup. (Joe Manekin ...

2017 Lagar de Pintos "Castiñeira" Albariño Rias Baixas

Marta Castro produces this tasty Albariño from vines located in the Salnes Valley town of Ribadumia, just a bit inland from Cambados. Given 5 months of lees ageing in the tank, this is an albariño with juicy stone fruit flavors, a round texture and well balanced acidity. Delicious, representative and good value in Albariño.

2017 Fefiñanes Albariño Rias Baixas

93 points Wine & Spirits: "This is the flagship of Palacio de Fefiñanes, first produced in 1928. The grapes are from Cambados, and the wine spends six months in stainless-steel tanks until it's bottled. A classic albariño from Rías Baixas, this is a lovely mix of peach flavors, scents of flowers and herbs and a mineral background. It is soft, round, juicy and rich in its lime-scented acidity. For batter-fried calamari." (08/2018) Wine Spectator: "Apple, ginger and herbal flavors mingle in this round white. Citrusy acidity and a light spritz keep this l ...

2016 Do Ferreiro Albariño Rias Baixas

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Méndez family consider 2016 a vintage with some similarities with 2011. I tasted their regular 2016 Albariño, which is produced from a mix of grapes from the 164 plots of vines they work, adding diversity of soils, mostly granite and sand but also red slate, and expositions in the villages of Meaño, Adina, Sisán, Castelo and Leiro. The grapes were picked in five days, starting on September 17th. All wines fermented with a "pied de cuve" from the Cepas Vellas, which fermented the juice from the destemmed grape ...

2017 Zarate "Balado" Albariño Rias Baixas

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Balado felt a bit austere, very young, and it's a wine that usually takes some more time in bottle to show its true colors. The 2017s from Zárate are a lot fresher than what the early harvest from a warm and dry year could make you think. 2,660 were filled in May 2018, as they usually bottle in the spring. (LG)" (02/2019) K&L Notes: Zarate is legendary in the Salnes sub-zone of Rias Baixas. They were the first to bottle single vineyard Albariños, highlighting different terroirs within the region. Their ...

2017 Forja de Salnés "Leirana" Albariño Rías Baixas

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Leirana is pure Albariño, the only wine produced in stainless steel (with maybe 20% in oak foudre), with indigenous yeasts and with temperature control because it's the highest volume in the winery. In the future, they might ferment it in used oak foudres and keep it there for a few months, but that won't happen for another four or five years. Even if 2017 was warmer than 2016, the wine has lower alcohol. They try to improve this wine every year, and they have been adding grapes from some old vineyards t ...

2017 Zarate Albariño Rias Baixas

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The entry-level Albariño wears just the winery name, of which I tasted the current 2017 Zárate, a clean, fresh and expressive varietal wine with classical aromas of white flowers, very clean and open. It's very approachable and gentle with nice balance, integrated acidity and very good freshness, and it has that dry sensation in the palate, possibly from the granite soils, linear and straight. It's elegant and really easy to drink. 65,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2018. (LG)" (02/2019) K&L Notes: ...
