2014 Pasetti Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

Pasetti's vineyards lie in the heart of Italy's Abruzzo, between the Tirino and Pescara valleys at the foot of Gran Sasso and Maiella. The location's favorable climate, varied terrain and clay chalk and skeleton-rich rocky subsoils result in some of the best wines coming out of Italy today. Made by husband and wife team Franco and Mimma from vineyards at 550 meters above sea level, their Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is aromatic, balanced and elegant. The perfect weeknight red.

2016 Emidio Pepe Montepulciano d'Abruzzo (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2016 Emidio Pepe Montepulciano d'Abruzzo (Pre-Arrival)

94 points Vinous: "nky-purple. Captivating, broad brushstrokes of tar and licorice complicate aromas and flavors of dark plums, black cherry and cassis. Very clean, vibrant, dense Montepulciano d’Abruzzo that boasts lingering floral and mineral elements on the juicy finish. The best Italian release of Emidio Pepe’s Montepulciano d’Abruzzo in a long time (this wine is made from younger vines than the Old Vines selections available in the US). Really well done. 2016 Emidio Pepe Trebbiano d'Abruzzo (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2016 Emidio Pepe Trebbiano d'Abruzzo (Pre-Arrival)

92 points Vinous: "Bright medium-dark yellow. Aromas of apple, pear, lime and apple cider on the rich nose. Then dense, bright and juicy, featuring suave pomaceous orchard fruit flavors and a hint of gingery zing on the clean finish. Lovely, refreshing but also very concentrated white that is increasingly less funky and macerated than past vintages of Trebbiano d’Abruzzo from Emidio Pepe. (ID)" (09/2018)

2015 Zaccagnini "Tralcetto" Montepulciano d' Abruzzo Riserva

91 points James Suckling: "This is always an outstanding red and very real with dark berries, spices and walnuts and light earth undertones. Medium body, light tannins and a flavorful finish. Linear tannins run through the center palate." (10/2018)

1983 Emidio Pepe Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

95 points John Gilman: "The 1983 and 1985 vintages from Emidio Pepe make great bookends, as both wines are fully mature and drinking at their peaks today. The ’85 is perhaps a touch more elegant, with the ’83 a shade deeper at the core and a bit more structured for the long haul. The stunning nose of the 1983 offers up scents of red berries, forest floor, botanicals, lovely spice tones, a fine base of soil, an autumnal touch of acorn, dried herbs and a topnote of spices meats. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and complex, with a fine cor ...Read More »

2010 Emidio Pepe Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

95 points John Gilman: "The 2010 Montepulciano from Emidio Pepe has absolutely brilliant potential, and it is very easy to see why both Emidio and his daughter Sofia are so excited about the quality of this vintage. The bouquet is deep, pure and youthfully promising, offering up scents of black cherries, tar, balsam boughs, a fine base of dark soil, incipient notes of botanicals and a bit of chicory in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nascently complex, with a fine core, firm, ripe tannins, tangy acids and a very long, ...Read More »
