The Choblet family established their vineyards in 1945 in what would become the Muscadet Côtes de Grandlieu appellation. Now three generations deep, brothers Herve and Nicolas Choblet work together from vine to bottle to make some of the most interesting and dynamic Muscadets in the region. The vines are planted on a mix of mica-schist but mostly granitic soils, lending brilliant mineral tones to the wine. It is aged in tank for 8 months sur lie before bottling. Some moules frites, s'il vous plaît!

Brégeon's Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie is hand-harvested from vines averaging 40 years old. Yields from the 7.8 hectare estate average a modest 30 hl/ha and wines are fermented on natural yeasts. From importer Kermit Lynch: "Michel Brégeon is part renegade, part crusader, and full-blown terroirist. Importer's notes: "This cuvée derives its name from Amphibolite, the greenish bedrock that was formed locally when the oceans receded in the very distant past. Produced from vines aged 23-40 years old, this unique parcel covers 7.5 hectares. This cuvée is never chaptalised, and only minor doses of sulfites are used before its early bottling in February to preserve all the freshness we seek in Muscadet. Intended to be consumed over the first summer, this wine is extremely fresh and loaded with minerals. Citrus and saline at the same time, it will marry we...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Melon was whole-cluster pressed and aged on the lees. "We're trying to make it as crunchy, bright and fresh as possible," Lieu Dit co-founder Justin Willett says. It offers aromas of Bosc pear, green apple, baker's yeast and faint white blossoms with crushed shell, white peach and lime peel. The palate is light-bodied, tangy and lively with a cleansing finish.
