Rutherford & Miles 1814 Bual Solera Madeira
Bid on this bottle of Rutherford & Miles 1814 Bual Solera Madeira. The history of this producer: "The firm that was eventually to become Miles Madeira was originally known as Rutherford & Brown, established on the Island of Madeira in 1814. In 1856 Henry Price Miles left England with his family and arrived in Madeira. Having worked as an apprentice since the age of 12 under the tutelage of James Rutherford, he acquired sound knowledge and experience of the workings of the Madeira trade. In 1872, the Rutherfords left for London (due to Phylloxera which decimated most of the vineyards in Madeira) and started up a wine importing business at the Old Trinity House in Waterlane. This prompted Miles to purchase the company and stocks and he later made a gentleman's agreement with Rutherford that any Madeira sold by them in the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, or Russia would be bought through H. P. Miles and Co. This agreement was respected and carried on until the Rutherfords sold their firm R

1870 Barbeito Bual Madeira
Bid on this bottle of 1870 Barbeito Bual Madeira. Neal Martin writes: " I previously described winemaker Ricardo Freitas as a “game changer” and I still espouse that opinion. If Madeira can be accused of being hidebound by tradition with outmoded techniques, then Ricardo is the man with the passion, ideas, the talent and let us not forget, the finance, to shake up a once somnolent industry content to ply its trade to tourists. What he achieves is a level of precision and delineation that is second to none, a lucidity of aromas and flavors that can be intoxicating."

The estate does not disclose disgorgement dates, but in general the wines receive six to nine months on the cork prior to be being released."

Bid on this bottle of 1982 Moët & Chandon "Dom Pérignon" Brut Champagne (97VN, 96JS, 96RP, 93WS). Vinous: "The 1982 Dom Pérignon is just a little more focused and vibrant in style. 1961 l'Eglise Clinet (A&R Barriere), Pomerol
Bid on this bottle of 1961 l'Eglise Clinet (A&R Barriere), Pomerol (92RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another great showing for this under-rated estate, the 1961 L'Eglise-Clinet displayed a saturated, opaque garnet color with some amber/rust at the edge. A huge nose of soy sauce, grilled meats, mocha, chocolate, and jammy cherry fruit is followed by a full-bodied wine with excellent richness, length, and balance. Drink this fully mature, velvety-textured wine over the next decade. (RP)" (02/1996)

M. Antonio de la Riva Jerez
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of M. Antonio de la Riva Jerez. Luis Gutierrez recently wrote: "La Riva is an old brand name rescued by Luis Pérez and Ramiro Ibáñez. They have produced a young white from Macharnudo grapes and there is an "almacenista" range of very old wines, all of them from a single vineyard. An outstanding addition to the wines of Jerez. They are still waiting to release the wines and have no US importer. Even some of the prices have not been decided yet."
