1995 Caperdonich 24 Year Old "Chieftain's" K&L Exclusive Single Sherry Butt Cask Strength Unchillfiltered Speyside Single Malt Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
Bottlings from the enigmatic Caperdonich Distillery are extremely rare. It was built in 1897 and named "Glen Grant #2," Caperdonich by J. & J. Grant in the town of Rothes. Only five short years later, the Pattison whisky crisis shuttered the gleaming new distillery. It lay dormant for 60 more years before Glenlivet rebuilt it and resumed production. The name Caperdonich, meaning "secret well," was adopted due to new regulations prohibiting multiple distilleries from sharing the same name. It was purchased again in 1977 by Seagrams, who sold it to Pernod ...

2007 Glenlivet 12 Year Old "Signatory Unchillfiltered Collection" 1st Fill Single Sherry Butt Cask Strength Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
For those who've been paying attention for the last decade or so, you'll know that we've had some pretty incredible success with Signatory. Likely the most requested and reminisced about product from them was a series of heavily sherried Glenlivets we bottled nearly four years ago. Those stupendous casks from this blue chip distillery were really quite rare, and have become legends. But the quality of those incredible offerings and their scarcity resulted in an absolute explosion in their price. What we once stocked for under $100, now were pushing $300....

1995 Allt-a-Bhainne 23 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Refill Hogshead Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
A workhorse distillery in Speyside, Allt-a-Bahine was originally built in 1975 to produce a light and fruity malt for Seagram's blending purposes. In 2001 the distillery was acquired by Pernod Ricard and folded into the Chivas portfolio. Mothballed for a time in the early 2000s after the sale, the distillery has been operating at full capacity since 2005 as we've seen everything about Scotch boom. Distilled in 1995 this cask comes from the era when Seagram's was operating at the top of their game as the largest beverage company in the world, shortly befo...

1997 Benriach 21 Year Old "Chieftain's" K&L Exclusive Single Rum Barrel Finish Cask Strength Unchillfiltered Speyside Single Malt Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
We once could bottle wonderful casks of Benriach distillery direct at extremely reasonable prices with no trouble. This unusual distillery has always been a favorite of ours, filled with experiments left over from their corporate past and their adventurous new owners. One of the few Speysides to still boast a malt floor, it was always exciting to see the unusual experiments that were hiding in the old warehouses at Benriach. But at some point in the last five years, the prices climbed into the stratosphere and when the distillery sold to Brown Forman, ou...

2003 Benrinnes 15 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Refill Hogshead Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
Benrinnes has become a staple on our shelves for the last several years. This isn't simply because Benrinnes is available, but because the whiskies we taste from this lovely little facility are delicious. And while it's true that it's available relatively frequently, we're picky about which casks come home with us. Benrinnes is unique for several reasons. Firstly, between 1974 and 2007, the distillery conducted an unusual semi-triple pot distillation whereby the feints from the wash still, weaker spirits still, and low wine still are included in the low ...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This copper-hued whiskey offers concentrated caramel, pecan pie and oak aromas. The palate is oaky and drying, not as luscious as the aroma suggests, showing vanilla and spice, plus hints of baked apple and cocoa. Adding water brings out more nutty flavor and a whiff of smoke. (KN)" (12/2017) Whisky Advocate: "The first 10 year old release containing whisky produced entirely by the new owners. I love the interplay here between the malt, sherry, and smoke, with all getting a chance to shine. A rich vanilla-tinged malty founda...

Macallan 12 Year Old "Sherry Oak Cask" Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Look for a rich butterscotch scent and a hint of fresh apricot. On the palate, this Sherry-matured single malt layers on concentrated caramel, butterscotch and custard, finishing long and spiced on a hint of orange peel. (KN)" (12/2017) K&L Notes: In his book, Kindred Spirits, international whisky authority Paul Pacult describes the Macallan 12 as, "simply the best 12 year old single malt around," and we wholeheartedly agree. The continued use of finest Golden Promise barley and the insistence on sherry oak casks from Jerez,...

Macallan 18 Year Old "Annual 2019 Release" Sherry Oak Cask Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
The Macallan's benchmark excellence is nowhere more evident than in the 18 year old, which is matured for a minimum of 18 years in seasoned sherry casks. Classic Macallan, with aromas and flavors of dried apricots and figs, spice, chocolate and orange zest. Made exclusively in hand-picked sherry oak casks from Jerez, Spain. As always, the Macallan is bottled with its natural color. This is the new package but the same old Mac 18!

Macallan "Rare Cask 2019 Release Batch No 1" Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
Macallan's new Rare Cask uses handpicked first-fill sherry casks from the top 1% of barrels currently aging at the distillery. The result is a richer, darker, more chocolaty version of Macallan with a thicker profile and a complex palate of raisins, sultana, orange peel, and ginger. With the current market craze for first-fill sherry whisky, à la Aberlour, A'Bunadh and Glendronach, the Rare Cask represents an aggressive and more modern approach from the typically conservative Macallan. This is a bold, chewy, full-bodied single malt that showcases the dee...

Macallan "Estate" Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Delectable notes of oloroso Sherry, dried date, dried fig, caramel and toffee lead the nose. The palate opens with a roar of flavor—leather, dried date, cocoa powder and toffee. The finish is long and gentle with hints of honey, gingerbread and dried cherry, plus a cinnamon and cayenne tickle. A delicious and complex sipper. (KN)" (12/2019) Whisky Advocate: "Distilled with a portion of barley grown on the distillery’s Easter Elchies estate. The nose detects quite intense sherry, plus black forest cake, then warm leather and ...

91 points Whisky Advocate: "One of the finest Balvenie 15 year olds that I’ve tasted. The flavors are clean, well defined, confident, and beautifully balanced. Full malty foundation (with some ripe barley thrown in). Soft, creamy vanilla, honeycomb, bright fruit (orange, nectarine, lemon peel, hints of pineapple), with emerging dried vanilla, coconut, oak resin, and subtle anise. Polished oak finish. It doesn’t have the depth that the classic older Balvenies have shown in the past, but what it does have, it has in spades. Quite splendid!" (03/2010) 90 ...

Mortlach 15 Year Old "Game of Thrones Six Kingdoms" Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
The ninth (and final?) release in Diageo's Game of Thrones Collection, Six Kingdoms, is a 15-year-old Mortlach single malt, matured in a combination of first-fill oloroso sherry and ex-bourbon casks. With an Independent North, Westeros is down to just Six Kingdoms, but any excuse for more great whisky is fine with us. The Beast of Dufftown has had a resurgence of late with Diageo placing a focus on the incredible malts that have historically just been for Johnnie Walker blends. Complete your collection of the Game of Thrones whiskies.

As reported in The Spirits Business: "The Macallan Edition No.5 is described as a 'homage to the diversity and complexity of natural colour.' The whisky has been aged exclusively in American oak casks, offering 'sweet notes of caramel and fresh fruit combined with oak spices.' It follows the launch of four previous expressions in the Edition range, which 'explores the unique elements' of The Macallan. … Pantone Color Institute created an exclusive colour for The Macallan Edition No.5 – an 'intricate combination' of red and blue." (09/2019)

Whisky Advocate: "This expression is described by the distillers as 'the heart of our range.' Matured in virgin oak, Pedro Ximénez, and oloroso casks. Oily on the nose, with ripe banana and a hint of oak. Quite full-bodied and slick on the palate, with vanilla, honey, and almonds. Milk chocolate and lime in the medium-length finish. (GS, Winter 2018)" K&L Notes: The GlenAllachie Distillery was built in 1967 outside of Aberlour. It quietly produced fine single malt without much fanfare until it's closure by Invergordon Distillers in 1987. Eventually, the...

Glenfarclas is special for more than its stunning location. One of the last family distilleries in Scotland, it is owned by the Grants, who have been involved in its operations since at least 1865. These days the distillery is a shining beacon of hope for lovers of great, affordable whisky--a rarity in these times. The Grants are committed to releasing high-quality whisky without all the frills like crystal decanters, at prices affordable to most single malt aficionados. While certainly not cheap, their 25-year and 40-year-old malts cost a fraction of th...

91 points Whisky Advocate: "Aromas of newsprint, damp foliage, and wood spice dominate on the nose. Confident, almost fizzy sherry notes on the full palate, with sultanas, figs, and fruit spices. It becomes progressively more citric. The lengthy finish produces dark chocolate dipped in chili sauce. A sherry-soaked dram. (GS, Fall 2019)" K&L Notes: This is the fourth edition of Tamdhu's Batch Strength single malt. A sherried treat, this is matured exclusively in European and American oak Oloroso casks and then bottled at a healthy 57.8% ABV. It's a rich ...

Notes from the distillery: "Pour yourself a dram of our 12-year-old expression and you’ll appreciate why we mature our spirit entirely in the finest sherry oak casks. The luxury box reveals the stylish bottle, allowing the natural amber spirit to shine from within. You’ll taste the intense richness on the palate and enjoy the deep, long finish it delivers. So sit back and savour."
Price: $64.99

This limited edition Macallan harkens back to an older and much lauded regular release, The Macallan Cask Strength. Adopting the royal crimson colored label - a color made famous by its predecessor - is a warning of the impending intensity of this exceptional Highland Single malt whisky. The Macallan Classic Cut is aged exclusively in sherry seasoned oak from Jerez and bottled without the addition of any water prior to bottling. This preserves the extraordinary character of this most exalted of Highland malts. The higher proof adds texture and depth, hig...

90 points Whisky Advocate: "Molasses, orange peel, and prickly oak spices on the nose; herbal, oily green notes develop. Finally, more overt sherry. The palate is supple, with sweet sherry and icing sugar notes, plus Turkish Delight, fruitcake, and toffee. Ultimately, cinnamon and dark chocolate. Cloves, more dark chocolate, and mouth-drying oak in the long finish. (GS, Fall 2019)" K&L Notes: From the producer: "From your first sip of our new 15-year-old expression, you’ll fully appreciate that time maturing exclusively in the finest sherry oak casks. Y...

Whisky Advocate: "This is the first batch of the only cask-strength bottling in the lineup and was matured in a combination of American oak, Pedro Ximénez, oloroso, and virgin oak casks. The nose offers gingersnap, melon, and cocoa powder, becoming floral in time. Bright fresh fruits on the palate, notably apricot and mango, with honey. Drying slowly, with a sprinkling of black pepper. (GS, winter 2018)"
Price: $74.99

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Silky and downright succulent, this Scotch is made with two types of oak casks—as the DoubleWood name suggests—but it’s really all about the influence of the ex-Sherry cask. Aromas suggest golden raisins and dried apricots. The silky palate starts out moderately smoky, but glides into a richer, honeyed, nutty profile that finishes with cocoa and clove accents. (KN)" (12/2015) Whisky Advocate: "This ever-popular expression of Balvenie is matured for roughly 12 years in ex-bourbon casks and finished for 9 months in Spanish oak...

Whisky Advocate: "A new small-batch addition to the Aberlour line-up, Casg Annamh (Gaelic for ‘rare cask’) has been matured in European and American oak oloroso sherry casks. Rich, buttery caramel aromas, grilled pineapple, and ginger. The palate is smooth, and yields spicy vanilla, tangerines, and cloves. Lots of black pepper and licorice in the relatively long finish. Less complex than the distillery’s A’bunadh. (GS, Winter 2018)" K&L Notes: The newest release from Aberlour, Casg Annamh, or "rare cask" in Gaelic, is an expression of balance that remai...

Orphan Barrel 26 Year Old "Forager's Keep" Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750ml (ships as 1.5L) (Previously $450) (Previously $450)
Top Pick!
The first single malt Scotch in the Orphan Barrel program. Distilled at Pittyvaich Distillery in Speyside. Closed in 1993, the Pittyvaich Distillery only produced for 18 years before its closure, making it one of the rarest malts on earth.
Price: Hidden

90 points Whisky Advocate: "Light amber. The initial impression is one of bulk. There are heavy florals — think lilies and stewed white fruit, and just-overripe banana — but this is given a mysterious extra heft by an underpinning of a light meatiness, accompanied by a tiny lift of (good) sulfur. The palate is, unsurprisingly, thick and creamy with huge fruit that fills the mouth. A highly physical, old-style Speyside dram with classic distillery character. A statement whisky that is a must-try. (DB, Winter 2014)" K&L Notes: Finally, the new release fro...

Whisky Advocate: "The oldest bottling in the range, this was aged in a combination of Pedro Ximénez, oloroso, and American oak casks. Farmyard aromas, with oak and dark chocolate. Very smooth and supple on the palate, with orange marmalade, raisins, and old oak. The finish is quite short, with dried fruit and milky coffee. (GS, Winter 2018)"
Price: $399.99

From the bottler: "Aultmore have been producing whisky in the Speyside region since the late 1800s, and their expressions impress us on a regular basis. However, despite their hundred-year-long history, there's hasn't really been a big, juicy story about Aultmore for us to turn into a label. So, what happened instead was we made the label be a shark going toe-to-toe with a velociraptor (or should that be fin-to-weird-scaly-claw?) on a cargo ship. We reckon we made a pretty good choice."
