2007 Glenlivet 12 Year Old "Signatory Unchillfiltered Collection" 1st Fill Single Sherry Butt Cask Strength Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
For those who've been paying attention for the last decade or so, you'll know that we've had some pretty incredible success with Signatory. Likely the most requested and reminisced about product from them was a series of heavily sherried Glenlivets we bottled nearly four years ago. Those stupendous casks from this blue chip distillery were really quite rare, and have become legends. But the quality of those incredible offerings and their scarcity resulted in an absolute explosion in their price. What we once stocked for under $100, now were pushing $300....

1995 Caperdonich 24 Year Old "Chieftain's" K&L Exclusive Single Sherry Butt Cask Strength Unchill-filtered Speyside Single Malt Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
The enigmatic Caperdonich Distillery is extremely rare. Built in 1897 and named "Glen Grant #2," Caperdonich by J. & J. Grant in the town of Rothes. Only 5 short years later, the Pattison whisky crisis shuttered the gleaming new distillery. It lay dormant for 60 more years before Glenlivet rebuilt it and resumed production. The name Caperdonich, meaning "secret well," was adopted due to new regulation prohibiting multiple distilleries from sharing the same name. It was purchased again in 1977 by Seagrams, who sold it to Pernod Ricard in 2001. Pernod ulti...

2001 Ben Nevis 18 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Refill Hogshead Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
The excellent Ben Nevis Distillery is quickly becoming one of our absolute favorite malts. The wonderful old distillery at the base of Scotland's tallest mountain was built in the town of Fort Williams back in 1825. Founded by "Long John" Macdonald the namesake of the famous old blend, Ben Nevis was one of the first single malt distilleries to install a coffey still on site, producing both grain and malt whiskies for blends. In 1989, the distillery was acquired by Nikka and became focused almost entirely on the Japanese market. US releases are extremely ...

1995 Allt-a-Bhain 23 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Refill Hogshead Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
A workhorse distillery in Speyside, Allt-a-Bahine was originally built in 1975 to produce a light and fruity malt for Seagram's blending purposes. In 2001 the distillery was aquired by Pernod Ricard and folded into the Chivas portfolio. Mothballed for a time in the early 2000's after the sale, the distillery has been operating at full capacity since 2005 as we've seen everything about Scotch boom. Distilled in 1995 this cask comes from the era when Seagrams was operating at the top of their game as the largest beverage company in the world, shortly befor...

1974 Invergordon 45 Year Old "Old Particular" Single Refill Barrel Cask Strength Single Grain Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
The single malt explosion of the last decade has created more interest in Scotch whisky than ever before. Along with the resulting throngs of devoted malt lovers, an unheralded category has begun to make inroads with connoisseurs and collectors alike. Single Grain whisky is the other side of Scotch, the hidden side. Normally relegated, the unmentionable filler for the great blends, when it was first created in the mid-19th century, it was extremely controversial. But the very thing that makes grain whisky so profitable for blenders also makes it so extre...

1997 Benriach 21 Year Old "Chieftain's" K&L Exclusive Single Rum Barrel Finish Cask Strength Unchill-filtered Speyside Single Malt Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
We once could bottle wonderful casks of BenRiach distillery direct at extremely reasonable prices with no trouble. This unusual distillery has always been a favorite of ours, filled with experiments left over from their corporate past and their adventurous new owners. One of the few Speysides to still boast a malt floor and it was always exciting to see the unusual experiments that were hiding in the old warehouses at BenRiach. But at some point in the last 5 years, the prices climbed into the stratosphere and when the distillery sold to Brown Forman, ou...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This amber-hued whisky offers caramel, oak and a hint of black cherry on the nose and mouth. The drying palate leads with black cherry and creamy honey, finishing taut, with leather, cigar wrapper, dark chocolate and clove heat. (KN)" (12/2017) K&L Notes: The excelllent Benromach 15 year was added to the core line in 2015. It's one of the best values for old Speyside on the market today. Designed to capture the old style of Speyside using both ex-bourbon and sherry casks, the Benromach 15 year offers something for every malt...

2003 Benrinnes 15 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Refill Hogshead Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
Benrinnes has become a staple on our shelves for the last several years. This isn't simply because Benrinnes is available, but because the whiskies we taste from this lovely little facility are delicious. And while it's true that its available relatively frequently, we're picky about which casks come home with us. Benrinnes is unique for several reasons. Firstly, between 1974 and 2007, the distillery conducted an unusual semi-triple pot distillation whereby the feints from the wash still, weaker spirits still and low wine still are included in the low wi...

2009 Ardmore 10 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Refill Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
The underrated Ardmore distillery was built in 1898 right at the height of the late century whisky boom. The owner, Adam Teacher, needed a steady supplier of malt for his expanding Teachers blend and this distillery still supplies the smoky component for that popular blend. The large facility expanded numerous times over the last century to become one of the largest distilleries in the highlands. It's famous for being one of the last distilleries to convert from coal fired stills and is home to a large blending laboratory. The distillery was purchased in...

Macallan "Edition No. 5" Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
As reported in The Spirits Business: "The Macallan Edition No.5 is described as a 'homage to the diversity and complexity of natural colour.' The whisky has been aged exclusively in American oak casks, offering 'sweet notes of caramel and fresh fruit combined with oak spices.' It follows the launch of four previous expressions in the Edition range, which 'explores the unique elements' of The Macallan. … Pantone Color Institute created an exclusive colour for The Macallan Edition No.5 – an 'intricate combination' of red and blue." Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old "Game of Thrones House Baratheon" Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
Part of Diageo's line of eight single malt whiskies to commemorate the eighth and final season of HBO's hit television series Game of Thrones that is based on the novels of the same name by George R.R. Martin. For a time, House Baratheon was the most important royal lineage in all of Westeros, with Robert Baratheon ruling all of the Seven Kingdoms. Also royally influenced is the Royal Lochnagar, which received a Royal Warrant after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited in 1948.

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This copper-hued whiskey offers concentrated caramel, pecan pie and oak aromas. The palate is oaky and drying, not as luscious as the aroma suggests, showing vanilla and spice, plus hints of baked apple and cocoa. Adding water brings out more nutty flavor and a whiff of smoke. (KN)" (12/2017) Whisky Advocate: "The first 10 year old release containing whisky produced entirely by the new owners. I love the interplay here between the malt, sherry, and smoke, with all getting a chance to shine. A rich vanilla-tinged malty founda...

91 points Whisky Advocate: "With worm tubs and a fiendishly complex partial-triple distillation, Mortlach has adhered to an old style of making whisky — and older, richer, darker flavors. Big and bold, it is at its best in ex-sherry casks. The nose is meaty (think gravy/beef stock) with fig, raisin, and molasses. In the mouth it’s concentrated, with good grip and a savory sweetness. A cult malt. (DB, Fall 2011)" K&L Notes: The excellent new 16 Year Old bottled by the Mortlach distillery is a truly welcome expression from "The Beast of Dufftown." The 16 ...

The beautiful northern coast of Scotland is home to several of the world's best single malt distillers and the wonderfully tiny Dunnet Bay Distillery. Their flagship gin uses 18 botanicals several of which are grown or collected locally. Named for one of the key botanicals, the indigenous Rock Rose (...

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fresh apple and pear aromas intertwine with a faint butterscotch richness. The silky palate is light, fresh and lively, opening with orchard fruit and fading to hints of violet, honey and smoke, plus white pepper and a ginger tingle. Macallan "Estate" Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Delectable notes of oloroso Sherry, dried date, dried fig, caramel and toffee lead the nose. The palate opens with a roar of flavor—leather, dried date, cocoa powder and toffee. The finish is long and gentle with hints of honey, gingerbread and dried cherry, plus a cinnamon and cayenne tickle. A delicious and complex sipper. (KN)" (12/2019) Whisky Advocate: "Distilled with a portion of barley grown on the distillery’s Easter Elchies estate. The nose detects quite intense sherry, plus black forest cake, then warm leather and ...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Had the Dufftown/Speyside Towiemore Distillery not closed in 1931, this is Lost Distillery's take on what the whiskey might taste like today, part of a series. This blended Scotch has a copper penny hue and an aroma that intertwines light peat smoke with baked pear and tea. The palate shows cocoa, peat smoke, cigar wrapper and tea, finishing with clove sparks in a long, warm, smoky and chocolaty finish. *Best Buy* (KN)" (12/2016) 90 points Whisky Advocate: "Built between Keith and Dufftown in 1898, but closed at the start of...

93 points Whisky Advocate: "Fresh, vibrant, and beautifully complex. A clean, malty foundation accentuated by bright complex fruit, delicate spice, dried flowers, and gentle honeyed vanilla notes that linger on the palate. This is a wonderful whisky which is very versatile, but I can only imagine what it would taste like at 46% and unchill-filtered like the wood finish expressions. Macallan's new Rare Cask uses handpicked first-fill sherry casks from the top 1% of barrels currently aging at the distillery. The result is a richer, darker, more chocolaty version of Macallan with a thicker profile and a complex palate of raisins, sultana, orange peel, and ginger. With the current market craze for first-fill sherry whisky, à la Aberlour, A'Bunadh and Glendronach, the Rare Cask represents an aggressive and more modern approach from the typically conservative Macallan. This is a bold, chewy, full-bodied single malt that showcases the dee...

Mortlach 20 Year Old "Cowie's Blue Seal" Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (ships like a 1.5L bottle due to shape)
Top Pick!
Whisky Advocate: "Named in honor of the family that owned Mortlach for many years, this was matured in sherry wood, like its 16 year old sibling. Milk chocolate, nuts, and coffee on the nose, with developing meaty aromas. Soft and slightly waxy on the palate, with almonds, apricots, and allspice. Milk chocolate and spicy orange in the finish. (JS, Winter 2018) " K&L Notes: The elegant older sibling of the two younger bottlings, this wonderful old expression of the special Dufftown distillery is aged exclusively in sherry butts. Deep and complex with ton...

Glenmorangie "Allta" Private Edition Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Previously $100) (Previously $100)
Top Pick!
92 points Whisky Advocate: "This Private Edition expression was made using a strain of yeast found growing on local barley. It was aged for approximately 8 years in mostly second-fill and refill bourbon casks. Barley sugar and honey on the nose, followed by lily of the valley, lavender, and white pepper. Big gingery fruit notes on the palate; fresh-squeezed orange juice, vanilla, and black pepper. The finish is long and attractively earthy. *Editors' Choice* (GS, Summer 2019)" K&L Notes: The tenth expression in the always anticipated Private Edition rel...

The newest addition to the A'Bunadh family - The Alba is here. Alba is a double entendre referring to both Quercus Alba - the scientific name for American oak, and a term for Scotland itself roughly trasnlated as "The Scottish Original". As the name implies, this expression of A'Bunadh is aged in American oak giving a distinctly different feel from its heavily sherried brethren. While the spirit itself is responsible for many of the sweet and fruity notes familiar in the sherried expressions, the body and color of this dram is wildly different and more v...

1993 Glen Garioch "Adelphi" 21 Year Old Single 1st Fill Sherry Butt Cask Strength Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
This exceptional single cask of Glen Garioch was bottled way back in 2015 by Adelphi. They split the cask between the US and European markets and bottled 221 bottles for this side of the Atlantic. The dense dark sherry and old school malt character are indicative of the old style Glen Garioch that has since been adjusted. They used their traditional malt floors all the way up until their closure in 1994, so this may have been made from barley malted onsite. Regardless of that fact, the spirit is one of the finest modern Glen Gariochs we've ever tasted, a...

Oban 14 Year Old West Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Look for pleasant sweetness and spice up front, as the nose offers a complex mix of oak, maple sugar, fresh apple, clove, black pepper and cinnamon. The flavors dry to a spicy midpalate before exiting on a long, concentrated maple-like note. (KN)" (12/2015) Whisky Advocate: "A much-beloved malt in the U.S. Some say it’s because it is easy to pronounce (though having said that, remember it’s ‘OH-bin’ and not ‘O’Bahn’). I’d prefer to think its popularity is because there is something about the fresh cleanliness of the nose, it...

This property in Oldmeldrum has a reasonable, albeit disputed, claim to being the oldest legal producer of whisky in Scotland. It officially dates back to 1797 and traditionally it has been a quite heavily peated malt. In the 1990s, under the ownership of Beam Suntory, after a period of closure, Glen Garioch reopened and started producing the unpeated whiskey they're known for today. Even without the peat, Glen Garioch managed to retain lots of richness and its distinct waxy tallow and spice. This 8 year shows just a smidge of faint smoke, a beautiful sa...

91 points Whisky Advocate: "One of the finest Balvenie 15 year olds that I’ve tasted. The flavors are clean, well defined, confident, and beautifully balanced. Full malty foundation (with some ripe barley thrown in). Soft, creamy vanilla, honeycomb, bright fruit (orange, nectarine, lemon peel, hints of pineapple), with emerging dried vanilla, coconut, oak resin, and subtle anise. Polished oak finish. It doesn’t have the depth that the classic older Balvenies have shown in the past, but what it does have, it has in spades. Quite splendid!" (03/2010) 90 ...

Whisky Advocate: "The youngest of the 2018 Mortlach trio, this is named after the distillery’s famous small spirit still. Maturation has taken place in sherry and bourbon casks. Baked apricots and ginger on the nose, with black pepper, lots of milk chocolate, and an herbal note. The palate is mildly savory, with more milk chocolate, vanilla, orchard fruits, and cinnamon. Lingering chocolate ginger in the finish. (GS, winter 2018)" K&L Notes: Finally, a proper distillery bottling of Mortlach. Named for the unusually small 6th still that helps creates Mor...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This sherry cask-finished Scotch offers creamy vanilla and crème brûlée, plus a mouthwatering citrus astringency on the midpalate and baking spice finish. Adding water pulls it all together, blending together lemon cream, almond and a gently spiced exhale. (KN)" (12/2017) Whisky Advocate: "A limited edition bottling to commemorate the great David Stewart’s 50th year in the business and, as befits this quiet man, here’s a release that rewards just sitting and listening. This gives more of a nod to Cognac than Speyside; someth...

Balvenie 12 Year Old Single Barrel Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Back In Stock!
As Balvenie continues its trajectory toward Glenfiddich/Glenlivet/Macallan status, competing with Glenmorangie for a spot in the Final Four, their quality remains steadfast. Any Balvenie fan would eat this single barrel up – big time. It is decadent, mouthwatering stuff. A first-fill ex-Bourbon barrel malt that oozes fat vanilla, tropical fruit sweetness, and spice on the finish, further emboldened by a 47.8% alcohol content. It's pricier than the Doublewood, but it's single barrel hooch and it's a higher proof.

Glenmorangie 18 year old Single Malt Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Despite the rich, buttery scent this single malt sips relatively dry. Rounded pear and sherry notes lead the palate at first, drying to leather and cigar wrapper and finishing long, with lemon zest and ginger zing. Water brings out more fruit, a tinge of violet, sprinkles of brown sugar and cinnamon sweetness, and a smoky whiff on the finish. Amazing complexity. (KN)" (12/2017) Whisky Advocate: "This is part of the distiller’s Extremely Rare range, and has been matured in bourbon casks for 15 years, before a third is transfe...

From Master of Malt: "Croftengea is the name of the heavily peated single malt produced by Loch Lomond, who make an impressive variety of different styles of whisky at their distillery in the Highlands. It was bottled by The Vintage Malt Whisky Co. as part of their Cooper's Choice range, with 725 bottles produced."

Whisky Advocate: "This variant of Glengoyne replaces the popular 17 year old as part of an overhaul of the core range, and the maturation regime has included what the distillers describe as 'a generous proportion of first-fill sherry casks.' Milk chocolate, vanilla, melon, and grapefruit on the nose, with burgeoning dry sherry and fruitcake. The palate is rich and well rounded, with cinnamon and ginger, almonds, orange marmalade, sweeter sherry, and caramel. Lingering spices and easy-going oak in the lengthy finish. Adding water coaxes out baked apple sweetness and dials back the oak. Valinch & Mallet descend from a long tradition of Italian bottlers of fine single malt and rum. This tradition, one of the first outside of Scotland to truly value the unique and sublime potential that single cask spirits offer, is becoming the norm for highly engaged consumers around the world. Whisky Advocate: "A new small-batch addition to the Aberlour line-up, Casg Annamh (Gaelic for ‘rare cask’) has been matured in European and American oak oloroso sherry casks. Rich, buttery caramel aromas, grilled pineapple, and ginger. The palate is smooth, and yields spicy vanilla, tangerines, and cloves. Lots of black pepper and licorice in the relatively long finish. Less complex than the distillery’s A’bunadh. (GS, Winter 2018)" K&L Notes: The newest release from Aberlour, Casg Annamh, or "rare cask" in Gaelic, is an expression of balance that remai...
