2003 Glen Scotia "Malts Festival 2019 Limited Edition" Rum Cask Finish Peated Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Elsewhere $109) (Elsewhere $109)
Top Pick!
93 points Whisky Advocate: "The nose has sweet smoke and more prominent aromas of banana, vanilla, guava, papaya, jasmine, hibiscus, and citrus oil, with some salinity and chalky minerality. The palate is consistent: intense tropical fruit—guava, mango, coconut—plus hazelnut, smoked almonds, milk chocolate, and salty kelp. It finishes with smoked nuts, toasted tobacco, chalky minerality, dry oak, and persistent fruitiness. Lots to unpack here, and it develops beautifully with water—take your time. (SSB, Fall 2019)" K&L Notes: Once hailed as the whisky c...

Springbank 22 Year Old "Sovereign Wax Top" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
We had an exceptional cask of Springbank last year that sold out after almost no effort on our part. We only received 78 bottles from that cask because it had supposedly been split with another market. As it turns out, we might have found the rest of that cask. The supplier is unable to confirm if this is the rest of the cask that we didn't get last year or if in fact it is a sister cask. Again we've only been allocated a tiny amount (108 bottles) and the proof is slightly lower by one tenth of one percent. If it is indeed the same juice, it certainly is...

Gauldrons means "Bay of Storms," and according to the bottler, this Scotch evokes "the ghosts of the long lost distilleries that once proudly proclaimed Campbeltown Scotland’s Whisky capital. The Gauldrons is a marriage of the finest Campbeltown Malts, bottled in very small batches at 46.2% ABV, and proudly bottled without coloring or chill-filtration. On the nose, detect a dry saltiness with sweet cereal and a late hint of gentle peat smoke. The palate is initially dry (beachy and maritime) warming to crunched sugar, barley, and oak. The warmingly spice...

Whisky Advocate: "After six ‘Work in Progress’ releases, Kilkerran from Glengyle Distillery has finally come of age with this core expression. It comprises 70% whisky from first-fill bourbon casks and 30% from sherry casks. Floral on the nose, with honey and a hint of brine, then peaty fruit notes develop. The palate is confident and oily, slightly earthy, with tinned peaches, black pepper, cinnamon, smoke, and a suggestion of medicine chests. The finish is relatively long, with pepper, licorice, and drying oak. (GS, Winter 2016) " K&L Notes: When the d...

The wonderful Kilkerran distillery is one of Scotland's smallest in terms of production. Like the other J&A Mitchell distillery, Springbank, the malts made the Glengyle distillery are 100% handmalted primarily from local barley and always 100% Scottish barley, making them the only 100% hand malted distilleries in Scotland. The stills were acquired by Glengyle from the old Ben Wyvis distillery, which operated only from 1965 to 1977 and while the hand malting is the hallmark of all the J&A Mitchell's products, the Kilkerran malts have a distinct character ...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Smells of dried figs, sultanas, lime marmalade, sea breeze, green olive, lemon grass, malted milk and unsweetened coconut. The taste profile asserts itself in the forms of light caramel, paraffin and almond paste; at midpalate the spirit becomes more evident as the off-dry, malty, moderately salty flavor warms the tongue and throat. Concludes gracefully and elegantly, with a mild rush of heat and smoke." (06/2006) Whisky Advocate: "Thick barley and viscous, with ever-present brine and berried fruit throughout. Underlying not...

From the producer: "Offering a different sensation from Longrow Peated, this whisky is smooth, elegant and subtly juicy. The latest release is 11 years old, bottled at 53.1%, and spent 8 years in bourbon casks before completing its maturation with 3 years in Refill Pinot Noir Barriques."

96-100 points Wine Enthusiast: "The complex, understated bouquet finds aromas of barley malt, seaweed, heather, oaky vanilla, honey, sherry cask, scrambled egg and minerals. The palate entry is oily, buttery and oaky sweet; by midpalate the flavors include assertive tastes of marzipan, marshmallow, baked pear/peach pastry and bacon fat. Finishes with a luscious fruit/grape thrust. A masterpiece." (04/2008) 92 points Whisky Advocate: "The nose is complex, with almonds, coconut, soft leather, tropical fruits, and stewed black tea. Hints of brine and peat...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This Campbeltown single malt has a topaz hue and crème brûlée scent. The palate is mildly smoky and drying, showing espresso, vanilla, leather and cigar wrapper, plus a baking spice finish. Water pulls out a fudgy undertone, overall it's still relatively oaky and dry. (KN)" (12/2017) Whisky Advocate: "This 15 year old has been fully matured in bourbon casks. Relatively reticent on the nose, with light vanilla. Becoming more aromatic and spicy, with tinned apricots in syrup. Medium-bodied, relatively dry, with ginger, oak, a...

The powerful and complex cask strength offering from the excellent Glengyle distillery is one of the most complex and authentic malts on the shelf. Aged exclusively in ex-bourbon barrels for 8 years, this wonderful Kilkerran exemplifies the wild diversity this tiny distillery can offer. The reason every other distiller in Scotland doesn't make whisky this way is efficiency, but also consistency. Each small batch of Kilkerran can have a very distinct style and that's why we love them. This naked expression of a truly authentic single malt offers even the ...

Springbank 12 Year Old Cask Strength Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
This most recent batch of Springbank's fan favorite 12 year old cask strength is right in line with what the distillery does best: hints of amontillado sherry on the nose with savory almond notes and accents of caramelized fruit. The richness and the viscosity of the malt make this a standout on the shelf. While Springbank's whisky always demands a premium price, it's easy to see why people are willing to pay it. That faint whisper of smoke on the finish with the phenolic, oily finale is absolutely delicious.

For this particular edition, the distillers in Campbeltown used whisky drawn from both Port casks and rum casks - 45% came from Port casks while the remaining 55% was drawn from rum casks. Distillery's note: "Nose: A delightful fruitiness bursts through; watermelon, strawberry laces, brambles and blueberries followed by crushed vanilla pods and glazed cherries. Taste: Chocolate covered oranges and Caramel shortcake! Deliciously full bodied, with tropical fruit squash, gingerbread and dried mango. Finish: A captivating Campbeltown Malt; sea salt, oily and...

92 points Whisky Advocate: "This limited release was matured in 60% refill sherry butts and 40% fresh bourbon barrels. Initially sweet vanilla and ripe apple notes on the nose, giving way to chimney soot and dry peat. The palate is very full and oily, with honey and vanilla merging with smoked haddock, charcuterie, and more overt peat. Licorice, coffee beans, brine, chili, and peppery peat in the lengthy finish. (GS, Fall 2017)" K&L Notes: This is dark and complex with an earthy nose of peat, stone fruits, orange zest and soft earth. Upon tasting, the ...

Whisky Advocate: "A good dose of sherry here, but there’s plenty of Springbank character coming through too! Gobs of ripe, red berried fruit (strawberry, rhubarb, red currant, raspberry), especially on the nose, along with raisin. It’s all on a bed of blueberry pancakes, toffee, and fig cake. Coconut and brine emerge occasionally on the palate and linger on the finish. (JH, Fall 2010)" Wine Spectator: "A delightful romp, this starts with a very fruity, almost Cognac-like nose of apple and pear, then gets very candied on the palate, with honey and fruit ...

96-100 points Wine Enthusiast: "Wonderful bouquet features aromas of sawdust, dry cheese, lanolin, wax paper, peatreek, chalk, kippers, unused band-aid, medicine chest and dried tobacco leaf. Palate entry offers flavors of tobacco smoke, smoked fish, honey and grain; midpalate adds tangy flavors of spiced rum, vanilla cake frosting, cocoa butter, milk chocolate and sweet oak. Concludes with vivid tastes of grain, cheese, dried fruit and brown sugar. *best buy* (panel tasting)" (12/2009) K&L Notes: Longrow is Springbanks heavily peated whisky. It is age...

Continuing a welcome trend in the whisky world, Springbank Distillery's Hazelburn 13-year old Oloroso Cask scotch is a thrilling example of what can be achieved with the marriage of a fine single-malt whisky and an aging vessel imbued with the qualities of a fine wine (in this case, Oloroso Sherry butts). The nose is all Campbeltown, with a rush of smoke and petrol, tinged by a sweet maltiness. Dried black fruits emerge along with a note of freshly baked bread. The palate is decidedly medium weight for an Oloroso-aged whisky, with the smokey character co...

Whisky Advocate: "The most expensive of Glen Scotia’s new trio has been finished in deeply-charred barrels and bottled non-chill filtered at cask strength. Soft and sweet on the nose, with peaches, fudge, and a hint of oak. Full-bodied and slightly oily on the palate, with wood spices, vanilla, and blackberries. Smoky ginger and lively char in the lengthy finish. (GS, Fall 2015)"
