Goldeneye in Anderson Valley has long been considered one of the benchmark producers of the region. Their Pinot Noirs have been consistent best sellers here at K&L for at least a decade. When we were offered some of their vintage Brut Rosé, a wine typically reserved for winery direct purchase, we jumped at the chance and weren't disappointed! Winemaker's Notes: "Anderson Valley has earned acclaim for the complexity and distinctiveness of its sparkling wines. Made from our very best blocks of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, our vibrant and alluring Goldeneye B...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "93+ points "The second vintage for this amazing and unusual sparkling Txakoli, the 2016 Izar-Leku was produced by the traditional method of second fermentation in bottle, where the wine spent 18 months, but the base wine was with lees for a year (one-third in barrel) before it was put in bottle. The bottles are kept at low temperature, 13 degrees Celsius and nowadays at 11.5 degrees Celsius, which makes for a slower fermentation that produces very fine bubbles. They have not disgorged all the bottles and some are...

A very exciting traditional method (bottle fermented) Chenin Blanc from old vines at the revered Jurassic Park Vineyard. John and Alex at Birichino never stop experimenting...but thankfully their failure rate seems to be just about zero! An early pick kept the acids high for this sparkler and that in turn balances the richness and power of these 40+ year old vines. Winery Notes: "Honeyed, saline, savory and immensely persistent, the 2016 Chenin was the product of an early September pick at a very modest sugar level, suitable for sparkling wine. Fermentat...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "After three years in bottle, this sparkling combines 50% Chardonnay with 40% Pinot Noir and a touch of Pinot Gris. Earthy mushroom and muddled lime, lemon and apple flavors highlight a smooth, structured palate of ample length and rounded weight. (VB)" (01/2021) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Vibrant and refined, with elegantly rich Asian pear, brioche and strawberry blossom accents that take on polish and richness on the lingering finish. (TF)" (10/2020)

90 points Wine Enthusiast: " The blend in 2016 is quite different from the previous vintage, reversing the roles of the Pinot Noir (35%) and Chardonnay (55%), with a splash of Pinot Meunier as before. It's young and fresh, with crisp apple fruit flavors in a compact, well-defined frame. There is clearly some aging potential, though where the flavors will go from here is anyone's guess. 90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Incisively yeasty and charged with plenty of spry, mildly citrusy fruit, this comparatively elegant and refined bottling displays the brightness reminiscent of a Blanc de Blancs while quietly possessing a bit of the expected richness of a Blanc de Noirs. Balanced to crispness and buoyed by very well-integrated acidity with wonderfully persistent, pin-point bubbles to spare, it fully reflects the Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs norm of being far more concerned with grace and finesse than with full-volume, toasty extravagance." 93 points Wine Spectator: "A rare combination of refinement and festive exuberance, offering lovely, expressive flavors of raspberry and strawberry, laced with rose petal and graham cracker notes that fan out on the long, luxurious finish. (TF)" (12/2020) K&L Notes: Though smaller than Napa Valley's big sparkling wine houses, many of them founded by the great companies of Champagne, Iron Horse, located in the cool climate countryside of West Sonoma County, is recognized as one of the select among top American producers of traditional method sparkling w...

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2016 Ultramarine "Heintz Vineyard" Blanc de Blancs Sonoma Coast Sparkling Wine. Antonio Galloni writes: "The setting is about as unglamorous as it gets. Michael Cruse's small but functional warehouse-like winery is located in Petaluma, next to Highway 101, but not close to much else. Don't let the stripped down setting fool you. Cruse makes a wide range of incredibly distinctive wines here. The sparkling wines are especially of note. Cruse began his foray into sparkling wines with Ultramarine, a label that focuses on single-variety, single-vintage, single-site bottlings, an aesthetic that has become increasingly popular in Champagne. At Ultramarine, the wines are done with blocked malo, aged in oak with minimal SO2 and bottled with little or no dosage...Quite simply, I can't recommend these wines highly enough."

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2016 Ultramarine "Heintz Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Rosé Sparkling Wine. One of the most exciting wine projects in California today happens to be an upstart garagiste with an obsession for redefining sparkling wine in America. Michael Cruse operates from a small industrial park in Petaluma just off the bustling Highway 101 corridor. After a brief career in molecular and cell biology laboratories, Cruse worked his first harvest in 2006. After learning about the meticulous, labor-intensive process of producing artisanal grower Champagne, he became convinced that if winemakers applied the same approach to sparkling wine in California, the results could be game-changing. Cruse now stands at the forefront of a burgeoning movement making incredibly beautiful sparkling single-vineyard wines from some of Sonoma's most acclaimed vineyard sites. As William Kelley writes in Decanter, "But by pioneering the artisanal methods and terroir-driven philosophy of the grower Champ
