Redbreast 27 Year Old Cask Strength Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey (750ml)
Back In Stock!
93 points Whisky Advocate: "This new permanent addition to the Redbreast range is partially matured in ruby port casks, which have helped the vitality and the complexity of the finished whiskey while still delivering a remarkable intensity of red berry fruit. Orange peel, pine cone, vanilla, and walnut on the nose. Raspberry, cherry, plums, and active spices like a wildfire across the tongue, with pepper and chile heightened by the strength and menthol late on the finish. (JM, Summer 2020)" (06/2020)

Our friends at West Cork Distillery in Ireland are also doing a bit of punk rock-inspired packaging. The Shane MacGowan-fronted legends now have their own official whiskey, courtesy of the Cork County-based whisky producers! It's very West Cork in style, rich and round, but with earthier accents underneath the vanilla. This one even has a coffee bean note to it, which we found intriguing.

Knappogue Castle 14 Year Old Irish Whiskey (750ml)
Back In Stock!
91 points Whisky Advocate: "Perfect for drinkers with a Goldilocks complex, this falls between the lemon-favoring 12 year old, and the richer, sherry finished 16 year old, with a nose of sweet mandarin, tropical fruits, fruit pastries, warm banana muffin, barley sugar, and forest honey. Bold, attention-grabbing flavors of orange, honey, vanilla, dried ginger, pepper, and jam-slathered pastries, with caramel, ground almond, and a tantalizing, zesty grapefruit bitterness toward the end. (JM, Winter 2018)" Wine Enthusiast: "The aroma of this light-gold whi...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Intended as a tribute to Midleton Master Distiller Barry Crockett, this delicate, silky whiskey has a golden hue and a lovely fresh-apple scent. On the palate, apple and ripe pear meld with butterscotch and a touch of banana on the long finish. Meant for savoring straight up. (KN)" (03/2014) 92 points Whisky Advocate: "Like the man himself, this is altogether more considered and elegant, mixing whiskeys up to 25 years old for a complex and less bruising experience than the Powers. Instead, lemon and lime zest, kumquat, and b...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aged in former bourbon, sherry and Malaga casks, look for a deep orange-gold hue and inviting baked-pear aroma. The robust, spiced palate offers brown sugar, honey, golden raisins and vanilla-tinged baked pear. (KN)" (03/2017) Whisky Advocate: "It works like this: triple distilled single pot still whiskey matured in bourbon, sherry, and Malaga casks, which produce a complex drink with aromas of red fruits, spice, nutmeg-dusted custard tarts, blossom honey, dried raspberry, clotted cream, cracked black pepper, and sweet flowe...

Whisky Advocate: "Ripe yellow fruits, summer florals, satsuma peel, anise candy, and, unexpectedly, a catch of smoke at the back of the throat. Interestingly, the malt in this blend was made elsewhere, on the stills now installed at the Pearse Lyons Distillery in Dublin. Mellow, with tropical fruits, melon, and citrus. It becomes quite tangy, with a growing dominance of spices, ginger, and pepper. Shades of sourness creep in, heralding a light, spicy finish. (JM, Summer 2018)"

Whisky Advocate: "Like the Writers Tears reviewed in this issue, this is from an independent company linked to renowned whiskey maker Bernard Walsh. It is described as of a style popular in James Joyce's Dublin (hence the name). Grain whiskey was a no-no at that time, so this uses no grain and is a mix of malt and pot still whiskeys. For its price and strength it is amazing — a big-hearted and full-flavored whiskey with an oily, apple-y pot still heart and cinnamon, nutmeg, and pepper spices. (DS, Summer 2012)" K&L Notes: The elusive Writer's Tears Pot ...

The West Cork Distillery started as a pet project by John O’ Connell, Denis McCarthy, and Ger McCarthy in 2003 in Union Hall, West Cork. In 2013, after much expansion, WCD moved to a larger distillery in Skibbereen, West Cork where it now resides. It now operates as only one of two independent distilleries in Ireland. That means they actually make their own whiskey that somehow, someway costs about the same as a bottle of 10-year-old Bushmills, despite the fact that they're an independent distillery with heaven knows how much debt and overhead to account...

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Complex, robust, and hard to put down, this sipper offers big, buttery, toasty flavor. Look for crème brûlée and custard, caramel apple and brioche rounding into a gently spiced finish. Limited production. (KN)" (02/2017) K&L Notes: Created in 1984 by Master Distiller Emeritus Barry Crockett, Midleton Very Rare is the ultimate expression of his art and expertise. Once a year, Master Distiller Brian Nation honours Barry’s vision by handpicking only the finest and rarest whiskeys from the Midleton Distillery warehouses and car...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Attention wine-lovers: Meet an Irish whiskey aged in former Bordeaux wine barrels—specifically, barrels from Château Léoville Barton, established by native Irishman Thomas Barton in 1725. The end result is a grassy, bright whiskey with a baked pear note mid¬palate and a subtly smoky finish. (KN)" (03/2017) Whisky Advocate: "Mitchell & Son’s classic whiskey finished for 1 to 2 years in wine casks formerly used by the Barton family in the St-Julien appellation. Spiced apple, redcurrant, blushing pink young raspberries, with a ...

Redbreast 21 Year Old Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey (750ml)
Top Pick!
93 points Whisky Advocate: "Honey, vanilla, peppercorn, Golden Delicious apples, macadamia nut, green banana, and clove-spiked orange. The flavors are bright with green apple, banana, vanilla, and citrus, developing a delicious creaminess to support the pot still spices. The creaminess really crowns this older whiskey as something special, with the bourbon wood playing a greater role than in younger, jammier Redbreasts. The finish is wonderfully long and warming, with spice, tangy orange, and oak. (JM, Summer 2020)" (06/2020) 93 points Wine Enthusiast:...

The famous Irish Brigade is one of the oldest and most awarded military units in the history of the United States. Founded in 1849 as the New York State Irish Militia, the 69th has fought as a U.S. Army infantry regiment in major engagements from the Civil War to modern day. It's armory is located on Lexington Ave in New York City. This new whiskey was created to celebrate and give back to the Regiment. A dollar for every bottle goes back to the Regiment and right now every dollar goes to New York COVID relief. As for the whiskey, it hails from a small u...

Established in 2003, West Cork epitomizes the renaissance of Irish whiskey. Now the largest wholly-owned Irish whiskey distiller in the country, they've attracted quite a following as a comparable yet accessible alternative to the pricier brands such as Red Breast and Green Spot. This single-malt dram is aged 8 years in barrel, and these are always some of the more robust and masculine Irish whiskeys on the market.

91 points Whisky Advocate: "From Calistoga, California to County Cork, this zinfandel-finished whiskey has bramble, damson jam, red apple, and glacé cherry, with cake mix, flaked almonds, and a steel-tipped edge of spice. Red apple, lemon peel, pithy orange, and crunchy red apple, teasing spice, with just a suggestion of mint mingled into the dry, spicy finish. First Saint-Julien, then Napa; where will Green Spot take our taste buds next? (JM, Spring 2018)" K&L Notes: The fabulous flavor of Midleton Distillery's Green Spot Irish whiskey meets the zinfan...

92 points Whisky Advocate: "An easy-drinking cask-strength whiskey, the nose has an equal balance between fruit and spice, as red apple and bright cherry meet Chinese five spice, savory undertones, and salted nuts. This has big, chewy sherry notes; it’s quite nutty, and the spice starts building early on. Hold out till the end for black cherry, toffee, and burnt fruitcake, with a finish of autumnal fruits, menthol, and aniseed. (JM, Summer 2020)" (06/2020) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Straight up, this cask-strength whiskey is crazy hot, almost too hot ...

94 points Whisky Advocate: "This blend of single malt and pot still whiskeys exhibits the incredible synergy between chocolate, cinnamon, and pot still spices. Vinous at times from partial cognac-cask maturation, this has aromas of dark berry fruit, cinnamon, fudge, milk chocolate, malt biscuits, jellied fruit, and a smudge of dry spices. Compelling, well-structured whiskey, with cinnamon, chocolate, dark toffee, pepper, and ginger. It’s never cloying, nor overly sweet, just a richly rewarding glass. (JM, Fall 2019) "

Knappogue Castle 21 Year Old Irish Single Malt Whiskey (750ml)
Top Pick!
There is something magical about the 21 year age statement. Irish Whiskey—always pretty and easy drinking, doesn't get much better than this. Aged in 100% ex-bourbon casks, the Knappogue 21 is an amalgamation of ripe orchard fruits, toasted malt, freshly churned cream, vanilla, and barrel spice. It's perfectly balanced and offers all of the rich sweet mellow Irish feel goods you could hope for. Bottled at 46% and non-chillfiltered, this is a prime example of why Irish single malt deserves every bit as much attention as their Celtic bretheren across the I...

Glendalough 13 Year Old Virgin Mizunara Finished Irish Single Malt Whiskey (750ml)
Back In Stock!
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Soulful and silky, this is aged for 13 years in ex-Bourbon barrels, then a shorter turn in mizunara oak puncheons. It's markedly soft on the palate, with most of the flavor on the drying finish: an intriguing mix of plum skin, unsweetened chocolate, honey and a touch of clove. (KN)" (03/2019) K&L Notes: Aged in bourbon barrels and finished in Japanese virgin Mizunara oak that has seen a light char. This 13-year-old Irish single malt perfectly marries the spice and fruit of Hokkaido's Mizunara oak with the richness of the old...

The Teeling Family has been in whiskey for centuries. In 1782, Walter Teeling opened the family's first distillery in Dublin and over two hundred years later John Teeling opened the Cooley Distillery in County Louth. After selling his beloved distillery to spirits giant Beam Inc., Mr. Teeling wasted no time before jumping back on the whiskey train. This time at the helm is Jack Teeling, John's son. The result is this lovely, innovative new whiskey. Clearly, the Teelings' have access like no one else and thank god because he's now cranking out this wonde...

Christopher Null for Drinkhacker.com: "On the nose, the whiskey is loaded with Irish essentials: Brightly sweet cereal, nougat, honey, and a clear brown sugar note. If you’re just looking for a beautifully sweet expression of Irish whiskey, you’ve got it here, at least to start. Then things take a shift: Tuck into the palate and an impossibly sunny cereal note strikes the tongue first, followed quickly by a significant note of dark fruit — cassis and blackberry — and a substantial level of spice rarely seen in Irish. This is definitely the doing of the B...

93 points Whisky Advocate: "The 120-year-old sherry house Lustau originally operated as an almacenista, but now produces a broad portfolio of wine styles in Jerez. The nose is intensely fragrant, bursting with fat dates and squidgy prunes, red apple and Battenburg cake. It’s fruity, yet bone dry, with oak, walnut, and spices. This is full-bodied yet refined Redbreast: the Spanish oak sherry butts shaping the red berry fruits, apples, marzipan, and creamy yet oily consistency. Clean, sweet oloroso finish. Qué delicioso! Dingle Whiskey is a product of its environment. From the localised well water to the intense manual mashing, alongside the wooden fermentation vessels that feed into the three bespoke copper pot stills, the production is purely Dingle. The micro climate then creates a maturation that is singular. They don't manipulate the course of their whiskey, only nature can do that. Created by the marriage of meticulously selected casks, both Bourbon and Port, this single malt Irish whiskey is a small piece of history, unique and rare. Batch No. 3 is a limited relea...

Claimed to be the world's oldest distilled drink - Poitín is the father of Irish whiskey (AKA - moonshine as we'd call it in the USA). First made by Irish monks in the 6th century in monastaries like Glendalough it was known as Uisce beatha or aqua vitae in Latin - the water of life. Today Glendalough's Poitín is triple distilled in a traditional copper pot-still using malted barley and pure spring water. It has a slightly floral nose with pretty and heady fruit tones. The taste is shockingly smooth and mellow given the 55%. Again a surprisingly fruity e...

Whisky Advocate: "Honey, baklava, lemongrass, artichoke, vanilla, herbal stems, and Turkish delight make for a thought-provoking glass of whiskey. Sipping reveals a gentle, fruity delight; this is silky smooth and packed with dried fruits, mango, papaya, vanilla, light caramel, pleasant spices, and as it unwinds, it oozes honey and sweetness. As the honey and peppery spices fade on the finish, a hint of mint appears. (JM, Fall 2018)"

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "The bold, fruit aroma suggests fresh-cut apples and honeysuckle, while the silky palate offers deep, bold flavor. Look for dark honey and clove, edging into tea, oak and cocoa midpalate. Apple freshness brightens the dry finish. An ice cube is the only adornment needed for this well-structured, tasty sipper. *Best Spirits of 2017* (KN)" (03/2017) 91 points Whisky Advocate: "Roll out the red carpet, because Green Spot is coming to town. Baked apple, spiced sultanas, lush green lawns, and ripe green fruits greet the nose. It’s...

96 points Whisky Advocate: "Very elegant, complex, and stylish. Honeyed and silky in texture, with toffee, toasted marshmallow, nougat, maple syrup, banana bread, and a hint of toasted coconut. Bright fruit and golden raisin blend in nicely with the layers of sweetness. Impeccable balance and very approachable. Classic Irish whiskey! *Value Pick* (JH, Winter 2010) " 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "From county Cork comes this bartender favorite. Producer notes: "Made from 100% Malted Barley from a range of different ages including Malt whiskey distilled in 1991. Aim to produce the most flavoursome NA Irish Single Malt based on our innovative maturation/finishing techniques while retaining the distinctive Irish smoothness. Consists of a vatting of 5 different wine cask (Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy, Cabernet Sauvignon) finished Irish Malt whiskeys. 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "The former Bourbon barrels used to mature this whiskey were 'charred and double charred,' the producer says, to coax more from the barrel wood. Look for an almost piña colada-like effect: coconut and tropical fruit aromas, and a rich, honey-soaked palate that shows caramelized pineapple and dried apricot. *Best Buy* (KN)" (03/2019) 91 points Whisky Advocate: "Sumptuously rich and intense whiskey emerges from these double-charred casks; a seduction of butterscotch, treacle, toasted nuts, scorched coconut, raisin, and vanilla ...

92 points Whisky Advocate: "Redbreast 12 year old is a classic pure pot still Irish whiskey; where can you go from there? This new 15 year old expression is more muscular (bottling at 46% and not chill filtering certainly helps), but there are trade-offs. It’s a bit closed on the nose (like a great Bordeaux wine that’s too young). I do enjoy the silky/oily texture, the bold resinous oak spice grip on the finish, and the rich nutty toffee, fig, black raspberry, chocolaty, chewy nougat throughout the palate. (JH, Winter 2010)" 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "...

93 points Whisky Advocate: "Finished in fresh bourbon casks at Bow St. Distillery, Dublin, this batch has a greater intensity than the first. Baked lemon, vanilla toffee, ground ginger, and snuff. Warm and fruity, with sweet toffee notes, the ginger root leads a high-intensity spice assault, though the reassuring indulgence of the rich toffee never deserts you. Dried banana, herbal notes, and lemongrass outline the finish. (JM, Summer 2019)"

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "As “the master blender's special selection of very old Jameson Irish Whiskey,” this bottling represents. Rich honey color, tropical fruit scent with a touch of thick caramel. The flavors are bright and vibrant—lychee, banana, orange peel, tempered by a wash of honey—and the finish is intriguing and dry with nuances of white chocolate, banana, leather and nutmeg. Beautiful. (KN)" (03/2012) 92 points Whisky Advocate: "Unmistakably Jameson on the nose, this is a belter of a whiskey: honey, apple, toasted coconut, creamy vanilla...

94 points Whisky Advocate: "Wow! Could this be the greatest comeback since Rocky climbed back in the ring and showed the young upstarts who was the boss? It's taken Irish Distillers a long time to respond to the pounding it's taken from Cooley but it's back in the ring with two wonderful pot still whiskeys. This is the better of the two, a whopping oily, woody package of classic pot still Irishness. The green fruits tumble over tannin and spice like frisky puppies. (Vol. 20, #3) " 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "A dark, moody, almost Scotch-like take on Iri...

The Glendalough Distillery was set up by a group of friends from Wicklow and Dublin with a passion for reviving the heritage of craft distilling in Ireland. Distillery note: "Finished for up to a year in the rarest of all casks, virgin Irish oak, this is a milestone for Irish whiskey. A single cask, mainstream whiskey that makes available the flavours of Irish oak to everyone. Each bottle is numbered and traceable to each cask and even to the tree from whence it came. We sustainably fell 140 year-old trees from the ancient oak forests in the mountains ar...

90 points Whisky Advocate: "One of Cooley’s finest efforts. Moderate doses of kiln smoke, dried turf, and kippers, tamed by vanilla cream, barley, and a buttery, olive oil texture. Subtle spices dance on the palate. Lingering smoky, white pepper finish. Islay meets Ireland. " K&L Notes: Then this small distillery opened up, staunchly independent, and starts doing things unheard of in Ireland. Instead of making traditional Irish whiskey (triple-distilled, non-smoky, and with a pot still whiskey component), they started making very scotch-like whiskey (do...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "The story behind this whiskey reflects a tale of two islands: First, the spirit is aged on Lambay Island, off the coast of Dublin. The whiskey is then finished in Cognac casks from Île de Ré, off the coast of France. While the finished result doesn’t exactly sing of the salty sea, it’s a pleasing sipper nonetheless, with a dark honey hue, bold, fruity aroma and drying palate mixing cedar with big, red apple bite and a long, robust vanilla-and-clove exit. (KN)" (03/2019) 90 points Whisky Advocate: "Spicier and darker than the...

Mild baked pear and dried apricot midpalate wind into a cinnamon and clove finish. Sip or mix." K&L Notes: Slane is the result of a fabulous partnership. The family Conyngham of Slane Castle and the whiskey savants of Brown Forman have come together to produce a truly excellent addition to the Irish Whiskey world. Triple casked in a combination of virgin oak with a unique medium ch...

90 points Whisky Advocate: "A limited-edition cold-brew coffee infusion of roasted Arabica beans, this might be the most moreish drink I’ve had all year. Dark ruby in color with a nutty, velvety coffee bean aroma and dark fruits. While Jameson fruitiness is evident, floral notes are harder to detect. Smooth and creamy across the tongue, with blocks of cacao, praline, and dark toffee, it still finds a classic pot still spiciness to finish. (JM, Summer 2020)" (06/2020)
