Bid on this magnum of 2017 Next Of Kyn (Sine Qua Non) "Numero Tres" Central Coast Touriga Nacional (1.5L) (98RP, (95-97VN)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This cuvée comes entirely from the Krankl’s “home” vineyard—the Cumulus vineyard—from a small, one-acre 2008 planting. The 2017 Touriga Nacional Numero Tres is a blend of 80% Touriga Nacional, 8% Petite Sirah, 6% Syrah and 6% Grenache using 44% whole clusters. It spent around 33 months in French oak barrels, 60% new. Very deep garnet-purple, the nose is a little reticent to begin, offering broody tar, new leather and fertile loam suggestions before giving way to come-hither scents of baked black plums, blackberry pie, dark chocolate, candied violets, pencil lead, menthol and dried roses. The first thing that hits you on the decadent, full-bodied palate is the texture—like stroking a kitten in your mouth. This 2017 vintage is composed of 48% Syrah, 24.8% Grenache, 10.6% Petite Sirah, 12.7% Mourvèdre, 1.7% Roussanne and 2.2% Petit Manseng, using 23% whole clusters. It spent around 32 months in French oak barrels, 68% new. Bid on this magnum of 2012 Myriad "Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard - Elysian Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (OWC - 99RP, (92-94ST), 93VN, 93WS, 92JS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Elysian Reserve is certainly a puff and a whisper away from pure perfection. Absolutely compelling Cabernet Sauvignon (100% of that varietal), the wine has an opaque purple color, a beautiful set of aromatics that include a spring flower garden, blueberry, mulberry and blackberry fruit, a glorious display of fruit, flawlessly integrated wood tannin, alcohol and acidity. The finish goes on for a good 40-50 seconds. These are not wimpish wines at 15.1% alcohol, but that’s well-concealed, and makes a mockery of the high-octane, anti-alcohol, pleasure police who would rather pontificate than actually taste. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot (note that rarely is any Merlot utilized at the historic Napanook Estate in Yountville). The alcohol, by California standards, is a relatively modest 14.1%. Blending the best of French savoir faire with the brilliant fruit purity and ripeness of Napa Valley, Moueix has turned in another tour de force that seems far superior today than it did when it was first released. This is one of the vintage’s greatest wines. Dense purple and youthful, with a glorious nose of earth, blackcurrants, sweet black cherries and incense, the oak is pushed way in the background, as it is in all of the Moueix wines, and the result is a wine of terroir, of great originality and authenticity. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In most vintages there are less than 200 cases of the top cuvee, the Cabernet Sauvignon Herold by Mark Herold. The 2010 is another 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, in this case from both the Coombsville and Oakville AVAs. A massive Cabernet, it offers plenty of blueberry, blackberry and cassis fruit intertwined with hints of incense, charcoal, graphite and toasty oak. This full-bodied effort is very much in the style of the Merus Cabernet Sauvignons that first launched Mark Herold’s career as a winemaker. Freemark Abbey boasts that they have "the most extensive collection of library Cabernets of any Napa Valley winery," and the 1980 is the oldest release available from their library. But the 750ml tops $100, making this magnum (the better choice for aging this delicate, underrated vintage from among Napa's top producers in the 1980s) a fine choice.

This is all mountain fruit from primarily the Stagecoach Vineyard and another site in Rancho Chimiles. The Elevation 1147 is David Arthur's grand vin--the best of all the lots of Bordeaux varietals grown at this Pritchard Hills estate. The 2005 includes 7% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc in the blend, which add depth, color and texture. Briar fruit, kirsch, violet and sage aromas lead to an opulent palate full of mocha, olive and black currant. The tannins are abundant but polished, but need some air or cellar time to resolve.

Wine & Spirits: "A great vintage of this classic wine, this reveals its sunny beauty over the course of days. Open the bottle and you might taste tart lemon, juicy almond and touches of oxidation, bringing to mind wood oils. Those flavors integrate with air so that the wine saturates the palate with freshness, the scent turned heady, toward croissants and almond blossoms, the flavors savory, salty and bright. This family-run winery farms prime Rioja Alta sites along the Ebro River, aging this estate-grown wine in cool riverside tunnels in their cellar in Haro. It's still a little closed for now, so I would wait until at least 2022 before opening, but there is a bright, buzzing effect on the palate and great length, with orange peel on the tail. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Mocha, espresso, cloves and blackberry jam are some of many nuances that emerge from the 2010 Red Blend. A deep, rich wine, the 2010 boasts stunning aromatics, beautifully chiseled fruit and fabulous overall balance. I sense a slightly less sweet, overt style than in previous years, yet at the same time, there is plenty of richness in the glass. I suspect the 2010 will still be going strong at age 20. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another rating identical to that which was given in 2007 (when first tasted from bottle), the 2004 Harlan Estate is performing essentially the way I suggested in 2007 as it is one of the more precocious and accessible of the Harlan Estate wines to date. A great showing at this retrospective, this wine, which seems like a hypothetical blend of a Pauillac, St.-Estephe and Graves, represents around 1,500 cases from 40 acres of beautifully manicured hillside vineyards overlooking Oakville. Still dense purple to the rim, with notes of creme de cassis, charcoal, blackberry and sweet toast, the wine is full-bodied and voluptuously textured with the tannins largely resolved. But the density and richness suggest this wine can go a long, long way, even though the window for drinking it seems open and inviting already. A world-class, first-growth win

Knockout nose combines raspberry, minerals, sweet spices and violet; the most ethereal nose of any Rancia since the 2006 vintage. Juicy, pure and precise if youthfully tight, offering lovely inner-mouth energy and perfume to the complex flavors of red berries enlivened by orange peel, sweet spices and flowers. Finishes very long and brisk, with juicy acidity that leaves the taste buds vibrating. An absolute beauty, and much less marked by the tobacco, tar and inky notes that have characterized some recent Rancia vintages. For example, even though 2009 and 2010 are both potentially outstanding vintages for Chianti Classico, there is simply no comparison between this wine and the Rancia 2009. (ID)" (09/2014)

Vinous: "The 2015 No. 9 Cumulus Vineyard is off the charts gorgeous, just as it was from barrel last year. Tasted from bottle, the 2009 is a bit closed, but all the aromatic depth, soaring intensity and energy that it showed from barrel is there. Time in the glass brings out the wine’s sensational pedigree. Dark cherry jam, mocha, grilled herbs and leather are some of the many notes that develop with time, but it is the wine’s overall structure that truly elevates into the realm of the divine. Gargiulo Vineyards is a small family-owned winery located in the Oakville sub-region of California’s Napa Valley. The family dedicates themselves to smaller case productions of premium wines from their two best vineyards, Money Road Ranch and the 575 OVX, both located in Oakville. Opened since January 2007, the tasting room sits on a small knoll overlooking the vineyard for some of California’s most expensive wine, Screaming Eagle. The winery was founded by longtime farmer Jeff Gargiulo who works with his wife, daughter, and son in law.
