97 points Wine Spectator: "Good ruby color still. The nose is fresh, with lots of crushed berry and plum, with a hint of piecrust. Full-bodied, with firm tannins and a caressing texture. 98 points Decanter: "Super-ripe with an expressive plum and dark chocolate aroma. Rich opulence backed by dark chocolate intensity and spicy tannic grip – big and bold on the finish. Bid on this magnum of 1977 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port (1.5L) (96WS). Wine Spectator: "Great dark color. Intense aromas of blackberry, stem and earth. Very powerful and youthful nose. Full-bodied and medium-sweet, with lots of milk chocolate, spice and berry character. Layered and balanced. So enjoyable. But just a baby. I remember this 10 years ago. It is really fantastic. Underrated by many, including me. (Web-2008)"
