Our fifth vintage of this direct import Albariño, this wine shows everything we like in the grape: hints of lemongrass, lively stone fruit, and a brisk, saline-tinged palate. Located in the sub-zone of Condado do Tea, where the days are a bit warmer and evenings are slightly cooler, there is a wonderful mid-palate presence to complement the typically lean and mineral qualities of Albariño. A classic with any shellfish, especially Dungeness crab!

Finca Garabato is a parcel of Valtea's oldest wines. You will notice that it says "2o Año" on the label, which refers to the fact that it ages in tank on its lees for a year following fermentation. This gives the wine a lovely richness, which really ramps up the flavor and textural qualities of the wine. Still refreshing, only richer than the regular Valtea bottling and ready to take on a meal.

Marta Castro produces this tasty Albariño from vines located in the Salnes Valley town of Ribadumia, just a bit inland from Cambados. The cooler, higher elevation Condado do Tea sub-region gives rise to a fresh, precise expression of Albariño in general, and this particular site lends an intense mineral streak through the wine. A floral, blossomy nose with peach and apricot aromas which carry through on the palate with taut structure, complex fresh frui...

Luis Gutierrez writes: "Benito Santos is an old name in Vilanova de Arousa; they went through a 'natural wine' phase that seems to be over now. 100,000 bottles of Albariño."

Produced at a small, 17-grower cooperative located, this Albariño comes from vines ranging in age from 50-70 years. A rarely exported version from the upper Salnès Valley, locally known as the "footprint of God," this nicely plump white still shows plenty of the varietal's trademark freshness and effortless acidic balance. Highly recommended.
