93 points Vinous: "The 2017 Chenin Blanc is one of the most expressive wines in the Lieu Dit range. Perfumed, generous and inviting, the 2017 has so much to offer. The Chenin emerges from Happy Canyon Vineyard, where the first Chenin was planted in an appellation that is better known for its Bordeaux varieties. Justin Willett fermented the 2017 in stainless steel and aged the wine in neutral oak. (AG)" (09/2018) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Chenin Blanc features scents of baker's yeast, cheese rind, toast, candle wax and smoke/gun...

Neal Martin writes: "Adi Badenhorst is the charismatic winemaker who alongside Eben Sadie has put Swartland on the map. Outspoken, opinionated and talented, his charisma rubs off upon the wines he creates. Moreover, they are available at extremely affordable prices and serve as a perfect introduction to the delights of Adi’s and Swartland’s wines."

90 points Wine Spectator: "This features a seductive texture that coats the palate, offering an intriguing mineral grip that supports notes of yellow plum and melon at the core, with spice and floral accents gliding along the edges. Delivers a long, inviting finish. Chenin Blanc. Drink now through 2029. " (05/2020)

92 points Wine & Spirits: "East of the Cape, Robertson is a town in the Breede River Valley where this chenin ripened to juicy honeydew melon and spiced pear flavors. There’s a line of lemony acidity to highlight the fruit sweetness, a match for turkey and stuffing with raisins. " (02/2020)

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Gorgeously textured, swinging between unctuousness and freshness, this is asoulful wine from New Zealand’s godfather of biodynamics, James Millton. Millton’s reputation for Chenin Blanc is equally mighty, and this honeyhued beauty lives up to it in every way. Highly aromatic, like a flower garden, with heady scents of jasmine, hyacinth and lavender combining with rawhoneycomb, guava and pineapple rind." (07/2020) 94 points James Suckling: "Fresh-beeswax, chamomile and light lemon-blossom aromas with fresh melon. The palate h...

2018 Mullineux "Granite" Chenin Blanc Swartland South Africa
Back In Stock!
95 points James Suckling: "A fabulous white, showing mango, papaya and dried-lemon character with stony and floral notes. Hints of dried orange and spice. It’s full-bodied, yet agile and beautiful on the finish. One of the best whites from South Africa and from chenin blanc! From biodynamically grown grapes." (06/2020) 93 points Wine Spectator: "This shows good weight on the palate, with substantial acidity cutting through, linking elements of ginger, peach, heather and lemon curd, accented by touches of verbena and hazelnut. Gains depth and complexity...

Connoisseurs Guide: "Pine Ridge’s winning white-blend recipe for Chenin Blanc and Viognier is on full display again in 2019, and, as in the past, the latest is an insistently fruity, lightly sweet wine whose buoyant, mildly melony traits are graced by touches of honey and flowers. It will be equally appealing as a warm-weather refresher when sipped on its own or as a sidekick to the likes of cracked crab, and it continues to claim a prominent place on our list of very good white wine values. *Good Value*" (09/2020) Wine Enthusiast: "This medium-bodied ...

Chateau d’Epiré is an 11 hectare estate. This bottling is sourced from 30- 55-year- old vines in schist soils. From importer Kermit Lynch: "Despite the beauty and timelessness of the building structures, it is the vineyard for which the domaine is best known. The Savennières from Epiré is regarded as Grand Cru. The domaine works primarily three parcels: La Croix Picot, Le Parc, and Le Hu-Boyau. It is the latter that sits just above another famous vineyard, La Coulée de Serrant. The soils here are rich, and the microclimate is ideal. Southern and south-ea...

92 points Wine Spectator: "Elegant and silky, but with a chalky mineral crunch behind the notes of persimmon, vanilla spice, daisy and honeydew. Hints of cardamom and savory mineral add to the complexity as this firms up on the long, mouthwatering finish. (AZ)" (03/2020) 91 points Decanter: "Vincent Caréme is one of the most dynamic producers in the Vouvray appellation, where a good number are content to rest on Vouvray’s reputation concentrating on making mediocre sparkling wine for the supermarkets. Carême is open-minded and keen to help new producer...

All the wines at this beautiful little organic domaine are made from 100% Chenin Blanc but vary in degrees of sweetness depending on where the grapes are harvested from. Planted in the sandy clay soils over tuffeau (that magical chalky soil of the Loire), these wines show the range of the quality that can be found in Vouvray for a mere pittance.

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "On the nose of the 2019 Original Chenin Blanc, peach skin, pineapple and honeysuckle all pop out of the glass with precision, followed by wet stone and fresh lemon pith. There is no oak to speak of on the palate. The medium-bodied wine shows its freshness in the mouth along with additional flavors of banana peel and pear slices across the mid-palate. It's a beautiful wine that shows precision, mineral tension and fresh fruit flavors, ending with a lingering finish that delivers pleasure to the drinker. This wine ...

90 points Vinous: "The 2019 Kloof Street Chenin Blanc underwent a natural ferment with minimal SO2 addition. It has a knockout bouquet for an entry-level Chenin, featuring beautiful orange blossom and apricot scents mixed with hints of lemon thyme. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and impressive tension and energy. Poised all the way through to the finish, this is a superb Kloof Street Chenin Blanc that serves as a perfect introduction to Chris and Andrea Mullineux’s wines. (NM)" (11/2019)

This limited production bottling of Chalone 2018 Estate Chenin Blanc was sourced from a vineyard planted in 1919. Vines this old produce miniscule yields but extraordinary fruit resulting in a rare opportunity to try what we consider liquid gold. Only 188 cases produced. From the winery: "The 2018 vintage was highlighted by its moderate growing season and average rainfall, resulting in grapes with extra hang time. Cooperative weather during the flowering stage increased fruit yields and created crisp refreshing wines with wonderfully ripe flavors...Our 1...

94 points Vinous: "The 2018 Chenin Blanc Ernesto Wickenden Vineyard Old Vines is a dense, powerful wine that shows the more savory side of Chenin off to great effect. Dried flowers, herb, almonds and mineral inflections give the Chenin its super distinctive personality. There is plenty of texture and depth, but the fruit is pushed into the background. The Foxen Chenin is one of the most distinctive wines in Santa Barbara. It is also an insane value. Winemaker's Notes; "The 2019 takes its charms from the slightly richer vintage, and a relatively small crop. A touch of botrytis in 2019 also lends additional texture and presents a deceptively honeyed and pear-like expression of the variety. A suggestion of mandarin blossom and a resurgent, dry, almost electric finish recalls wet stone, and the quartz and limestone soils that help make this ungrafted Late Disco Era site next-level delicious. After harvest in the middle of the night, we let the fruit sit overnight and pressed the next day at lunchtime. A...

Sourced from across the broad Western Cape region of South Africa, Radley & Finch offers this Chenin Blanc at an attractive entry-level price. Grapes were sourced from both bush vines and trellised vines primarily in the Agter Paarl and Swartland regions. Winemaker Thinus Kruger primarily utilized indigenous yeasts in a particularly slow fermentation to develop complexity. The result is a citrusy and yellow-fruited profile with hints of spice and grain. It is ready to drink right now, but will fill out and add complexity for a couple of years.

Dry Creek Vineyard has been making dry, crisp Chenin Blanc since 1972, and continue to be a benchmark producer for this once-ubiquitous varietal wine, in its latter-day mini-revival. The grapes for this wine come from the Clarksburg AVA, which is east of the Bay Area on the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta and has been the source of many of the wines that have helped raise the profile of dry Chenin Blanc.

Vinous: "The 2019 Secateurs, Badenhorst’s super-successful entry-level label, comes from 26 Swartland vineyards and is matured in a combination of concrete and foudres. The nose grabs you by the olfactory senses with pineapple, saffron and tangerine aromas. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, nice focus and good weight on the simple but crisp lime and pineapple finish. Delicious and a great value to boot. 94-96 points Chris Kissack, Winedoctor.com: "This cuvée comes exclusively from 100-year old vines. It begins in a smoky, matchsticky, reductive frame of mind, the fruit profile dominated by mirabelle, peach skin and honeysuckle. A beautiful character here, with evident old-vine concentration, It feels sinewy, substantial, minerally too, fresh with energy and an acid-bright character. Youthful, lifted by retained carbon dioxide, long and tense in the vivacious finish. Fabulous potential." (05/2019)

According to the importer, Antoine Foucault established Domaine du Collier in 1999 with his companion Caroline Boireau. Today they farm nearly 7 hectares of vines, produce a mere 1,250 cases of wine, and have surpassed rising star status to join the ranks of top growers in Saumur. Antoine cut his teeth at the famed Clos Rougeard in Saumur-Champigny, working with his father and uncle, Charly and Nady Foucault. Then, at age 26, Antoine set out on his own to create Domaine du Collier.

This wine comes from a vineyard located in the Southern-eastern hills near the city of Ukiah. Planted in the mid-1970s on a gentle slope in Pinole gravelly loam soils, the old Chenin Blanc vines yield tiny, beautifully concentrated berries - thus the name Peaberry. According to the winery, the grapes were picked on September 19th at 20.3 Brix. The grapes were whole - cluster pressed to tank for cold settling. Then juice was racked to neutral French oak and Acacia barrels for fermentation using spontaneous yeast. The wine was aged for five months and comp...

2018 Nicolas Joly "Clos de la Bergerie" Savennières-Roche aux Moines

Joel B. Payne writes: "If any producer has reached mythical status on the Loire, it is certainly Nicolas Joly. He is known to many, even to those who have never tasted a single glass of his wine, as the leading latter-day partisan of Rudolf Steiner’s agricultural philosophy. A very exciting traditional method (bottle fermented) Chenin Blanc from old vines at the revered Jurassic Park Vineyard. John and Alex at Birichino never stop experimenting...but thankfully their failure rate seems to be just about zero! An early pick kept the acids high for this sparkler and that in turn balances the richness and power of these 40+ year old vines. Winery Notes: "Honeyed, saline, savory and immensely persistent, the 2016 Chenin was the product of an early September pick at a very modest sugar level, suitable for sparkling wine. Fermentat...

94 points Vinous: " The 2018 The FMC is pure hand-selected Chenin Blanc from low-yielding bush vines planted in 1974, matured on the lees for 12 months in barrel. It has a complex nose of nectarine, pithy stone fruit, lanolin and beeswax and seems to constantly evolve in the glass; suggestions of white chocolate and broom emerge with time. The intense grapefruit and mango flavors are counterbalanced by the killer line of acidity. There is power in this FMC, but a sense of elegance triumphs on the precise finish. This comes highly recommended and can be b...

95-97 points Chris Kissack, Winedoctor.com: "From six rows in the Clos des Mailles, the vines identified and the fruit separated out in the basis of a band of phthanite which runs through the vineyard, which is otherwise blue schist. This sample comes from a 2013 barrel, although the vinification was in barrel, jarre and a 1.5-hectolitre demi-john. This has a striking and clearly quite different character to the 2018 Clos des Mailles component barrels just tasted. The nose is all honey and straw, with perfumed pear, and yet it feels so tense. 96 points Decanter: "Clos Michet is the smaller of two adjacent clos that the Domaine de la Taille aux Loups owns in the commune of Saint Martin le Beau. The larger is the 12ha Clos Mosny, which is entirely enclosed by a wall. The Clos Michet has sandy soil, faces southwest and west and the vines are at least 50 years old. The age of the barrels used are a quarter new, quarter one year, quarter two year and a quarter three years. Tasted in early February Clos Michet was richer than Rémus with thrilling tension between the fruit and acidity with a very lo...

About this producer: "Winemaker Nathan Kandler stands firmly by his belief that the winemaker's ultimate mission is to translate the voice of the soil into the glass. But not all vineyards are created equal, and here enters Nathan's keen eye for finding the magical combination of variety, climate and soil. In California’s case, he believes the most special sites are often found outside of the iconic regions (Napa, Russian River, etc.). For Precedent, his first independent effort (his day job is as Associate Winemaker at Thomas Fogarty) he has found 3 uni...

Philippe et René Socheleau founded the winery after falling in love with the beauty of Anjou and the Loire Valley. The domain consists of 40 hectares perched on the Saint Aubin de Luigné uplands above the Loire and the Layon rivers and produces a wide range of wines from Anjou's four villages. The Clos de la Casse is a dry wine and 100% Chenin Blanc. Winery tasting notes: "Gold yellow pale green color. Light gold-green tints, citronella tinges. 95-97 points Chris Kissack, Winedoctor.com: "Two components of the final blend tasted. Barrel #1: From the 25-year old vines, representing about 20% of the final blend. Intense, expressive, laden with stone and schist. Beautifully styled, fresh, polished, tense, but carrying plum, peach and orange fruits. Minerally, still showing some residual carbon dioxide. Long and persistent. Barrel #2: A blended barrel, wine from all three parcels, representing about 80% of the final blend. A more reticent nose, more subtle, but smoky and minerally. 91 points Decanter: "With a background in the restaurant business, Ken Forrester had a vision of Chenin’s potential that has put him at the forefront of South Africa's Chenin movement. The Old Vine Reserve, which comes from 40-year-old-vines picked by hand, is more affordable than Forrester’s FMC, however, like the FMC, it still ages remarkably well so expect it to show well in 20 years. The youthful 2018 has a very attractive delicate texture, displaying balance and finesse with apple and pineapple notes and some soft acidity on the finish." (06/2019) ...

Winery notes: Chenin Blanc has a long and storied history on Pritchard Hill. The original vines were already producing when Donn and Molly purchased the property in the late 1960s. Following a replanting in 2004, Chenin Blanc was reintroduced as a "Signature" designation with a twist. While the Signature Cabernet bear Donn Chappellet’s name, Molly Chappellet’s signature graces the Chenin Blanc label. To add depth and complexity, this Chenin Blanc was fermented in a combination of neutral French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. This sophisticated ex...

Winemaker's Notes: "Our inaugural release from this block of own-rooted vines planted 1978. My original intent was to bottle a 100% Skin Fermented Chenin as the 2nd bottling in our XB series but tasting in the cellar I preferred the 50/50 blend. The acidity from the white wine Chenin both brightened the palate and gave a lift to the "orange" aromatics that I felt enhanced their intensity. In bottle, the wine shows the explosive aromatics of a skin ferment but remains nimble and energetic on the palate."
