James Suckling: "A straightforward, fruity red with berry, cherry and chocolate character. Medium body, round tannins and a medium finish. " (07/2020) K&L Notes: Owned by the Tagliabue family since 1979, the wine growing on the estate dates back to the 17th century. Known for their Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, the name "Salvi" refers to the supposed health-giving effects of this terroir. Villa Poggio Salvi's modern winery is partly subterranean and set within the contours of the hillsides.

2007 Malescasse, Haut-Médoc (1.5L)
Top Pick!
Château Malescasse is an historic property ideally situated on gravel soils close to the Gironde River just north of Margaux. While it is true that 2007 will never have the power or authority of the finest vintages of the decade, the best wines display a remarkable ripeness and an admirable richness of texture. These are medium to full-bodied reds with soft tannins that will make great near to medium-term drinking. They are priced appropriately and many, like this 2007 Malescasse, offer exceptional value.

Jeb Dunnuck: "A terrific value, the 2018 Foxglove Cabernet Sauvignon offers a juicy, forward bouquet of blueberries, plums, leafy herbs, and underbrush. It's rounded, medium-bodied, charming, and has fine tannins, all making for an easy-drinking red that has plenty of fruit as well as Cabernet character." (10/2019) Vinous: "The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles shows just how appealing the vintage is. Aging in steel and bottling early brings out the aromatic, juicy side of Cabernet. The 2016 is not exactly complex, but it is absolutely delicious. It ...

2019 Stolpman "Para Maria" Santa Barbara County Red Blend
Top Pick!
94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This extremely affordable blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Petit Verdot always impresses. Expertly captured aromas of berry juice, pepper and thyme are savory yet soft on the nose. The palate is tense in structure but ripe in fleshy dark-red-fruit flavors, all elevated by cracked pepper and lavender touches. *Editors' Choice* (MK)" (01/2021)

2018 Guy Farge "Terroir de Granit" St-Joseph
Top Pick!
91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted from 2016 and 2017 barrels, Farge's 2018 Saint Joseph Terroir de Granit is really ripe and plush, yet it still shows elements of granitic restraint to its opulent black cherry fruit. It's full-bodied and supple yet with great focus and a long, silky finish. (JC)" (01/2020) 90 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Lots of smoky blue and black fruits, violets, bouquet garni, and pepper emerge from the 2018 Saint Joseph Terroir De Granit. Coming all from granite soils and brought up mostly in used oak, it's medium-bodied...

Poderi Luigi Einaudi dates back to 1897 and is one of the most historic producers in Dogliani. This bottling of Vigna Tecc was first introduced in 2005, and while the focus is on Barolo, their other wines, such as this Dolcetto, receive the same care and attention. The Vigna Tecc Dogliani Superiore is aged in large oak and cement and is typically quite dark-fruited in character and bold in body.

2018 Calon-Ségur, St-Estèphe (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
97-100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "In the running for the wine of the vintage in Saint-Estèphe (if not the whole Medoc), the 2018 Château Calon Ségur is a tentative blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and the balance Petit Verdot that will spend 20 months in new French oak. In comparison to the more backward Montrose and more classically styled Cos d’Estournel, this beauty is as sexy and opulent as Saint-Estèphe gets, revealing a saturated purple color, awesome notes of crème de cassis, crushed rocks, spicy oak, and cedar pencil, fu...

2016 Larkmead Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Elsewhere $120) (Elsewhere $120)
Top Pick!
98 points Wine Enthusiast: "This stellar, powerhouse wine is perfumed in aromas of pencil, leather and sage that season a core of mineral and crushed rock. The fruit is equally savory in currant and plum, with a dusting of dark chocolate. *Editors' Choice* (VB)" (11/2019) 92-95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Moving to the barrel samples, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is a pretty, elegant wine that lacks the richness of the 2015 yet has perfumed notes of red and black currants, spring flowers, and spice. A blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot that wa...

2016 Roquefort Rouge, Bordeaux
Top Pick!
Jancis Robinson: "90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from Lugasson, property of the Bellanger family. 30-year-old vines yielding 50 hl/ha. Two-thirds aged in barrel for 12 months. Clean and direct. With fairly pronounced tannins still. I'm not sure I agree with the Bellangers that this has 12 years' ageing potential but it's certainly a very good effort for the price. 16/20 points (JR)" (11/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "Still young and full of bright fruit, this is a juicy wine with acidity and red-fruit flavors. Its vibrant character is lively although it ...

Two winemakers who were already producing some serious Central Coast wines, Curt Schalchlin, founder of Sans Liege, and Andrew Jones, who started Field Recordings, teamed up to launch The Fableist Wine Co. Price: $19.99

Jeb Dunnuck: "Based largely on Merlot, yet with 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% each of Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Mountain Cuvée has a juicy, lively style as well as peppery black fruits, leafy herbs, and leaf pencil aromas and flavors. It's another solid value and has a juicy, lively style, good balance, and a clean finish. It also shows the more focused, Old World style that's common in Bordeaux blends from Sonoma." 2006 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

96 points James Suckling: "Starting to take on the tertiary character of ripe fruit and savory components with dusty tannins. Full and round with a lovely texture and a light salty, meaty and tobacco character. Forest floor. Sweet and sour." (10/2012) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are 6,500 cases of the superb 2006 Dominus (91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot). 97 points Vinous: "The 2017 Flaccianello della Pieve is fabulous. Dark, sensual and enveloping, the 2017 captures the essence of the house style in its textural richness and baritone inflections. Black cherry, plum, spice, new leather, licorice and chocolate infuse the 2017 with tremendous richness. The 2017 spent 18 months in barrique followed by 6 months in cask, the same aging regime as the Vigna del Sorbo, but with a bit more new oak. That approach worked very well, as the Flaccianello stands out for its exceptional textural elegance and finesse. It ...

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Enticing, earthy aromas of iris, camphor and dark-skinned berry mingle with truffle, leather and wild herb on this full-bodied red. Hailing from one of the best sites in Barbaresco, it’s firmly structured and incredibly delicious, delivering raspberry compote, ripe Marasca cherry, tobacco and licorice alongside youthfully assertive, noble tannins. With its Barolo-like structure, this is one for cellaring. Drink 2025-2037. Cellar Selection. K.O." (08/2020) 94 points Vinous: "The 2017 Barbaresco Montestefano is a dark, brood...

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "While the 2019 Cotes du Rhone is not a single-estate wine (it's labeled simply Saint Cosme, without the "Château de"), this 100% Syrah is a perennial bargain—and this could be its best vintage to date. Aromas of violets, cracked pepper, cassis and blueberries leap from the glass, while the medium to full-bodied palate is ripe but silky, leading into a long, mouthwatering finish. A blend of fruit from the Gard (the right bank of the Rhône) and Vinsobres (the left bank, about 400 meters above sea level), it retains...

(02/2020) 91 points Vinous: "A Malbec from old vines in Mayor Drummond, Luján de Cuyo, that spent 12 months aging in one-third new and two-thirds used oak. Bright purple in the glass. An exceptional Rosso, nicely combining richness with vivacity in a remarkably harmonious way. Closes creamy yet refined. One of the top three-four Rossos of the vintage and better than many Brunellos. (ID)" (04/2020)

This full-bodied beauty has plenty of tannin, terrific purity of fruit, no hard edges, and a great finish. Give it a few years. 95+" (01/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One-hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Latro Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon gives up notions of crushed red and black c...

Solid on the finish." (06/2019) K&L Notes: A K&L Direct Import! Jesús Puelles is one of the most talented vignerons in Rioja. Hailing from a long line of vineyard worker/owners, Puelles knows the terruño in his little slice of land in the Rioja Alta town of Abalos. Sleek, yet intense and complex, unfolding effortlessly through the long finish. (BS)" (10/2020) 96 points James Suckling: "The boldest of the G.D. Vajra crus. The nose has very intense, rich and ripe darker cherries with a savory, sanguine edge. The palate has layer upon layer of rich dark berries and concentrated, quite rich tannins that carry plenty of brambly dark-cherry flavor. So keenly d...

2015 Altesino Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "Terracotta, earth, iron filings, cedar and leather make for an undergrowth-driven Brunello 2015, which doesn't fall short in the fruit department either, where there are red plums and red cherries. The tannins are neatly stacked, one on top of the other, with tidy acidity drawing in vibrant fruit and keeping it taut throughout. Balanced and stylish." (10/2019) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Altesino 2015 Brunello di Montalcino shows beautiful depth and latitude, with broad fruit aromas of dark cherry and cassis...

It boasts a deep, saturated purple color as well as ripe, powerful, yet complex aromatics. Full-bodied and rich, with a stacked mid-palate, this beauty builds on the palate with ripe, polished tannin, ample oomph, and a great finish. It’s a powerful, concentrated wine from the team at Léoville Las Cases that will benefit from 5-7 years of bottle age and ke...

2016 Castiglion del Bosco Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
99 points James Suckling: "The complexity and beauty to this is really something with cherry, walnut, tobacco and cigar-box character. Sweet cherries. It’s full-bodied and deep with super intensity and power. Layered and beautiful. Really refined tannins. Some whole-berry fermentation gives this added character. Goes on for minutes." (10/2020) 95 points Vinous: "The 2016 Castiglion del Bosco Brunello di Montalcino really stands out with its vivid display of crushed raspberries, lavender and clove. 90-92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The base 2019 Crozes-Hermitage looks to be outstanding, with a beautiful purple color, classic Northern Rhône notes of darker fruits, pepper, and gamey tapenade, medium to full body, and a balanced, pure, seamless texture. It should be a smoking value and delivers the goods." (11/2020) K&L Notes: The Desmeures family of Domaine des Remizières are fourth-generation winemakers who originally sold grapes to the local cooperative. After completing their winery in 1974, the family began production at their new property. The estate...

2016 Bellegrave du Poujeau, Haut-Médoc
Top Pick!
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This vineyard in the southern part of the Médoc is so close to Bordeaux city that only a small part has been saved from buildings. The wine is worth the effort, rich with fine tannins and wood-aging flavors that sustain the ripe blackberry fruits and smoky character. The wine should age well, ready to drink from 2022. (RV)" (04/2019)

92 points James Suckling: "Plenty of sour cherries and a touch of blood orange make this rather silky, medium-bodied Juliénas attractive and easy to enjoy. But there is some real depth and a long finish, in which the dry and fruity sides of the wine are very nicely balanced. Drink or hold." (01/2019) Vinous: "Deep ruby. Pungent, spice-accented cherry and black raspberry scents and flavors show good clarity and pick up a hint of succulent herbs with air. Chewy and nicely focused, delivering solid, youthful tannic grip on the nicely persistent finish. (J...

93 points James Suckling: "So fresh and elegant with more than enough concentration and structure, this is a fine example of a 2015 Reserva. Ripe-blackberry, licorice, smoke and bourbon notes. I love the velvety texture of the long, intense finish. Better from 2019 and with long aging potential." (08/2018) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The red blend 2015 Rioja Reserva is 80% Tempranillo with 12% Graciano, 6% Mazuelo and 2% Garnacha, a little more Graciano and Mazuelo, something logical in ripe and warm years like 2015. It's produced with gr...

97 points Decanter: ""This dark, relatively tight-knit Rioja proves that the Gran Reserva category doesn't just indicate the supremely well-aged, relaxed and reposeful style of Rioja, but can also serve to draw drinkers' attention to outstanding wines of density and tenacity which still have a way to run along their potential ageing trajectories. Look out for dark, urgent fruits here sweetened and back-lit by cunningly angled oak, with intense, deep, fresh and searching flavours in which the 10% of Graciano seems to be working overtime. A Rioja of innate...

2019 Mas de Libian "Bout d'Zan" Côtes-du-Rhône
Top Pick!
The Thibon family acquired the Libian property in 1670, and in 1970 Jean-Pierre Thibon decided to wholly focus on wine production. Since then the estate has grown to 25 hectares of vineyards and 8 hectares of "nourishing" land planted to olive trees, vegetable and flower gardens, and grains to support the organic and biodynamic viticulture. Mas de Libian began its biodynamic farming in 2005 and was shortly certified by Demeter afterwards. 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The bottle I tasted of the 2016 Viña Real Crianza is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano from Rioja Alavesa that fermented destemmed in stainless steel with neutral yeasts and matured in French and American oak barrels for 13 to 14 months, during which time it was racked every five or six months. It's expressive, deliciously aromatic, floral and elegant, reflecting a cool year that delivered fresh wines that seem to be very approachable early on. 2016 is a pretty vintage, but this wi...

This 14-hectare estate has belonged to the Gaussen family for six generations. Located in one of the warmer and drier parts of Bandol, its soils are heavy in clay and limestone, meaning that most of the vineyard labor is done by hand out of necessity. Produced from old vines (and therefore from smaller grapes) the resulting wines are full and flavorful. When drunk young, the flavors of this wine are licorice, morello cherry and blackcurrant; and after 10 years of good keeping they have the aromas of leather, undergrowth, licorice, truffles, venison.

2016 Viña Quebrada de Macul "Domus Aurea" Cabernet Sauvignon Maipo Valley
Top Pick!
97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "2016 was one of the most unusual vintages in Chile in recent times, as it was much colder than usual and rained a lot. The 2016 Domus Aurea, one of the most classical among the Cabernets from Maipo, contains 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot that were harvested early-ish, before the big rains. After a cold soak that lasted around 12 days, the grapes started fermenting spontaneously in stainless steel. Part of the wine underwent malolactic in tanks and part in barrel.
